Last call for any new interest. For those who expressed interest you'll have a bit more time. Ideally I'd like to start at some point next week but that is flexible if we need more time to prepare.

Do you have a character template prefer to use?

Not really. Whatever is easiest for you and as long as it is readable I’m not picky.

Name: Hugo Meyer
Age: 48 Occupation: Police Detective (retired) Rolls: HERE Appearance: Hugo is on the shorter side being a couple inches below six feet and rather barrel shaped, with short cropped brown hair and still quite clear blue eyes despite getting on in age. Truthfully he looks older than he is, stemming from years of long hours and an unhealthy diet, but since leaving the force he has been getting more rest and eating healthier so their is hope yet. Background: While he may have been born and raised much of his life in Germany, in his mid teens his industrious parents immigrated to London, England where they ran a fairly successful furniture business and did quite well for themselves. When he was old enough arrangements were made for him to join the police as a junior detective, and while he might have gotten started based on family connections he had a knack for the job and rose from their on his own god given graces. He had a solid career, with some high profile cases, and more than a few that had some odd occult connections that exposed him to a world he did not know existed up to that point. The remains of rituals go wrong, sacrificial murders and the willingness of others to go to whatever ends were required to acquire some piece of unknown antiquity never ceased to amaze him. When his parents both died in a tragic fire at their warehouse, he inherited the family accounts and a hefty insurance payout that was more than enough that he had no real reason to continue working with the force so he promptly retired. This did not stop those who had been following his exploits from reaching out to him to help them in a now more confidential investigation into things or to act as a middleman for parties that wish to remain anonymous in the acquisition of certain items. Writing Sample: The pool of blood had stained heavily the persian rug that lay before the massive mahogany desk that sat before the window overlooking the pond, it was not fresh and easily two or three days old. A large book written in some form of code lay open upon the desk and a small chest lay open with an odd shaped intent of a blade still clearly visible in the plush linings. In the old days he might have considered this a case of just bad luck and a surprised burglar, but given the remote nature of the estate and what he was seeing here this was not just some random robbery gone wrong. The small pile of gold coins laid out in the shape of a cross on the desk made that quite obvious. The annoying sound of bugs flying about was quietly noticed and a bit of a smell was starting to permeate the room, the grounds keeper had commented on it when he arrived. "I know that smell, its the smell of death and it wont be pretty." Looking about there was no obvious sign of a body, but it must be close by, the rug showed directional ripples as if something was dragged across it going in a specific direction from the pool of blood towards one of the tower book cases along the wall. Where an impressive collection of books lay strewn about, but it was one book with some blood upon the spine which caught his eye. Pulling it towards him he heard the mechanical release of the door and the book case swung in wards to expose a room beyond. The smell was much worse now and he knew what he would find before he even entered the room. He found two bodies inside, a young man of foreign blood lay upon the floor with multiple visible stab wounds, the look of pain still frozen upon his face. The other body was that of the nephew's rich uncle, only one visible slashing wound along his back and neck. The wound was not deep and Hugo suspected the man had dragged his attacker into this room in an attempt to hide the body without realizing how severe his own wounds had been. Rolling the man over he had to fight the urge to vomit as while the wounds had the look of being superficial the skin was blackened and oozing a foul smelling liquid and his face looked puffy and grotesque. The weirdly shaped knife still gripped tightly in one hand, felt menacing Hugo made sure to avoid touching it in any way, not far from the man was a leather bound journal that had an envelope sticking out. "What do we have hear, perhaps this might shed some light on what this was about." While the journal appeared to be written in the same code as the book that was on the desk in the other room, the contents of the envelope was quiet readable and was an invitation to an auction of items of an occult nature that was to take place in Vienna. "Perhaps somebody wanted to make sure he did not attend this auction, a competitor possibly. People have certainly been killed for less." The list of items included with the invitation was enough to catch his eye, and a few hand written notes along the margin made it clear this was important. If he wanted his answers as to what had happened here there was only one place he was going to find it, so he wired off a message to the auction holder announcing he would be travelling there in place of his client who was indisposed. Then made arrangements to travel to Vienna to see this collection for himself, and perhaps catch himself a killer.

Due to some unexpected RL stuff I've been traveling, likely won't be able to finish character background & writing sample until next week. I know you'd wanted to get started fairly soon; if this takes me out of the running I understand. If not I'll try to complete character by Wed August 8th.
