Plot Summary Silvain, widely known as a benevolent and wise King has been overthrown by his closest advisor and the royal family executed. As the news spread, the kingdom quickly fell into chaos. Before anyone could act however, the nobles loyal to Silvain have all suddenly disappeared, and strange things are happening throughout the kingdom of Moril. The commoners pray to the gods for deliverance, but all is silent from the celestials, and many have reported seeing strange, evil dreams of a kingdom that will herald an apocalypse. But others report dreams of a band of heroes, blessed by the gods, who hold an apocalyptic end at bay... Welcome to my little thread! This will be a campaign from level 3 to 10 that will have a healthy mix of roleplay and combat. There will be adventures, wild stakes, dungeons with strange puzzles, and lots of intrigue thrown into the mix with potential mysteries to solve! Personality Trait: I sleep with my back to the wall or tree, with everything I own wrapped in a bundle in my arms.
Ideals: I'm going to prove that I'm worthy of a better life.
Bond: No one else should have to endure the hardships I've been through.
Flaw: It's not stealing if I need it more than someone else.
Personality: Easy going at times, and quiet at other times. He can be moody. It's as if he's waging a battle within himself. He's a loyal person though, be at his side, he will be at yours. He's polite most of the time and can fit in anywhere, talking to a noble as if he was one himself, or talk to a beggar as if they were brothers. He’s a rogue, many say thief, but he’s more than that. A rogue is a jack of all trades and that’s what he tries to be. Why be great in just one thing, when he can be good in everything. They also say most rogues are ruthless and cares for nothing but riches and themselves. Most maybe, but not all, he actually cares, especially to those that been done wrong.

Appearance: He stands about six feet, medium build, athletic. He has dark brown eyes and long dark hair. Dressed in whatever fits the occasion, but with his occupation, he prefers all black. He’s young, looking, barely 20, but in reality, he’s 40. His eyes shows that he seen life, more life than a young man should. He is always aware of his surroundings, casually glancing around, taking everything in, keeping things and people in memory. Dressed in leather, he’s armed with a sword at his hip, a bow at his back, a dagger sheathed at his right thigh.

Backstory:

 

He was two years old when people noticed that he was different. He enjoyed raw meat, and one nursemaid, while babysitting him for his mother, thought he was dead, for he was not breathing, but when shook, he woke up, acting like everything was normal, with the terrible twos, when angry, he would suddenly bare his fangs that came from nowhere. The talks began, gossips spread. The next morning, his mother was gone, nothing was missing except her, the window was open, it was three stories high.

The rest of his young years, he grew up in an orphanage. A couple of kindly caretakers had helped him with his temper and later on, he was able to control himself. The love of raw meat though, was another story. When possible, he would feed in secret. At five years old, he found out that his father, whoever he was, or is, a vampire. His mother was a prostitute, had worked at one of the local brothels. The only thing he had of her was a brass ring that he worse as a necklace. It was a strange ring for it never tarnish.

Growing up, he became a beggar, and he had a couple of tricks when being chased. One, when roughed, he would lay dead, not needing to breathe, they would think him dead and either go for help or just leave him. When alone, he would get up and take off. Next trick came by accident, some bullies were chasing him, and he ran into an ally, a dead end. He looked up and notice some cracks in the wall and tried to climb up and he found that he needed no leverage, he was crawling up like a spider.

His teen years were spent on odd jobs and stealing what he needed to survive. As an adult, an older man approached him, offered him a better life at the Thieves Guild. He had been watching him secretly and had reports of him climbing walls. Jarral was tensed and afraid. People had tried to kill him when they found what he was.

“I could care less what you are, only who you are and if you would be good for our guild, which I think you will and it would benefit you as well.”

So, after some hesitation, he told the man was he was and instead of fright or shock, the man grinned,

“Thought so, my young man, let me tell you what a dhampir is, for that is what you are, a very rare breed indeed.”

Jarral heard that he was probably half vampire but didn’t truly understand. The older man then explained to him, the abilities he might have and will have. What shocked Jarral the most, was his lifespan.

“There have been studies in the past, but no real concrete evidence, but they did come up with two possibilities. You either are an immortal, which is stupid, you are half human, humans do not live forever, even half-elvens do not live nearly as long as elves. No, I’m inclined to go with their second inclusion, and that is, you can live for a thousand years. There have been a sighting of your kind some years back, he looked like he was entering his middle ages, but he was five hundred years old. The fact that he was aging at all, proved that dhampirs are not immortal”

Jarral spent some of his adult years in the guild, and he was treated well. They started using him in special situations, which usually involved him scaling a wall. Life was good for him, finally, but after a while, he wasn’t having fun anymore, he was made to steal, which wasn’t a big deal for him, some victims would never miss what little he took and others that he took a lot, had it coming in his opinion, especially nobles who looked down on others and who thought they were too good to get their hands dirty. However, he was made to steal from good folks as well. He felt guilty about that, but the guild leaders didn’t care who they stole from.

So, one day, he packed up and left, sneaking away unseen, only stopping at the orphanage and donating some gold he had kept for himself. The rest of his years he wandered the lands, stopping at a city and towns for a few years here and there. He couldn’t stay long, around four years, people would notice that he wasn’t aging, and he couldn’t pass for a half-elf. So, when he did make a long stay, he stayed no longer than three years. He had learned to study people and even talk like them. He had been hired as spy and would learn the enemies moves, such as working for a Duke, who was having trouble with a fellow Duke.

It was then, that horrific news of the kingdom of Moril.came. News of all kinds of horrors were coming from there. Bandits were one thing, a raid of monsters were another, but a Kingdom turning evil was worse, for everyone in the kingdom was in trouble. The only worry he had was out living everyone, so he then headed towards the Moril. He didn’t know what he can do, but he felt he had to do something. Peasants would suffer, merchants would suffer as well, perhaps nobles as well, if some of them didn’t try to make deal with the evil ruler. Worse of all, the orphanage would suffer greatly. He still remembers his childhood. He had to do something, what, he didn’t know, but that will come later.

Not looking at a fancy concept for this PC, rather he’s a back-to-basics tank

Axriv Name: Axriv Race: Human (variant) Class: Barbarian Background: Soldier? Outlander? Probably a blend of the two Personality:   Axriv tends to be blunt; If he is being polite, he probably doesn't like you. A passionate man who works hard and plays harder, he has had to evade a town’s guards more than once after a drunken fight. He will take employment from an underdog fighting long odds but he might backhand a healthy looking beggar who didn’t take ‘piss off’ for an answer. He isn’t particularly criminally minded but he has taken grey work before, such as grave robbing exploring ruins, bodyguarding fences entrepreneurs, and the like. He has also given beatings to would be extortionists, even if the person he helped couldn’t pay him back faster than five coppers a week. He has no issue with making himself judge, jury, and even executioner of someone who “needed killing,” but he knows better than to tangle with powerful people by himself. Backstory:   The night his village had to fight off a raid by slavers left a strong impression on Axriv as a young boy. He trained for fighting every spare moment he could get away from chores. He had a short way with anyone trying to bully him or his friends, which inevitably led him to becoming a bully as he got bigger and tougher. At his family’s request, a local druid appeared in dire wolf form and (literally) dragged him into the woods, where they spent several days educating the headstrong teenager. Among the lessons were simple truths like how there is always something too strong to fight, about respecting the balance in nature, and how that related to being a balanced person. This had a profound effect on the young man and the personal code of honor he developed. Axriv served in the military but didn’t stay past two enlistments. He worked in a mercenary company but left after a few years. While he could take orders, the person giving the orders needed to be worthy of the warrior’s obedience. He works odd jobs and ‘missions’ to pay the bills. The news of the coup and the disappearance of the (few) decent nobles in the kingdom have left him concerned over what will happen to his family, friends, and employers. Already there are rumors of an organized resistance forming, and Axriv approves of the notion.

Have a character I've wanted to play who is a fine fit for a medieval political/combat style campaign but . . . the character has a day job and only adventures in short stretches of a few hours or possibly a night that wouldn't endanger their other identity. Is that a fair description of what is required or will this be an all encompassing quest that will consume the characters' lives completely?

Application SKELMARA THE UNPROVEN Race: Human Class: Tempest DomainCleric Background: Outlander Trait#1 If someone’s in trouble, I’m always ready to lend a helping hand. Trait#2 I once ran twenty-five miles without stopping to warn my clan of an approaching orc horde. I’d do it again if I had to. Ideal Aspiration. I seek to prove myself worthy of my goddess’ favor by matching my actions against her teachings. Bond I protect those who cannot protect themselves. Flaw I have a tendency to be overly trusting of strangers. Description:   (I'm using a homebrew goddess as a placeholder, but that can be adjusted for whatever the pantheon of this world is.) A first glance at Skelmara might intimidate your average passerby. At 5’ 11”, she is well above an average woman’s height, with a firm, toned build that speaks to her years of experience training amongst her people. Skelmara has traditionally delicate features as well, though her feminine visage has its share of scrapes and scars. Between that, her shaved and cut hair, and the clan tattoo along the side of her face and head, this woman’s aesthetic practically SCREAMS warrior. Personality-wise, Skelmara is blunt and to the point. Lying has never been part of her skill set; Skel and her people view deception as the refuge of the weak, and weak she certainly is not. This isn’t to say she is unfriendly. Her strong personality reflects her commitment to the tenants of Riskka, the goddess of strength, valor, and protection. Those who demonstrate their strength of character in the face of adversity will be quick to find an ally in this brazen cleric. Skelmara is never one to shy away from a fight or test of courage, but she refuses to abide wanton violence. Sparring is one thing, but inflicting one’s power on unwilling victims for personal gain, ego, or to pointlessly destroy is intolerable to her. Outside of combat, Skelmara is a surprisingly gentle soul, and life in the wild has instilled in her great appreciation for nature and for animals. Unsurprisingly, said life has also deprived her of more traditional experience with socializing, and it’s not uncommon for her to laugh at the wrong time, misunderstand turns of phrase, and generally miss common social cues. Backstory:   Skelmara grew up in the forests and hills near the southern tip of Moril, amongst a small warrior clan known as the Iron Claw. Worshippers of Riskka, these hardy folk live off the bounty of the land and protect it, keeping the area and its denizens safe from marauders, dangerous beasts, and potential invaders. From an early age, Skelmara showed great promise in combat. Her devotion to her people and faith was strong, and by adolescence, it became clear that there was more behind her technique than mere muscle and training. Riskka smiled on this girl, and as it was with many clansmen before her, Skelmara became a chosen holy warrior under her influence. For her 16th birthday, she received a shield, smithed and constructed by her parents, and emblazoned with Riskka’s holy symbol. After two years of intense training, the fresh-faced and bright-eyed cleric was ready for the next step. It is one thing to be one of Riskka’s “chosen”, but one is not fully recognized until they complete a pilgrimage. An Iron Claw cleric in training is dubbed “Unproven” until they have sufficiently earned a title from Riskka for deeds of valor and glory. So, when word reached there southern lands of the overthrow of King Silvain, Skelmara knew it was the call to action she was meant to answer. With talk of impending apocalypse, the young woman bid her clan farewell and struck out north, ready to fight back whatever evil may await her on her quest to restore balance to the land.

Application Name: Claire Aldercrest Race: Half-Elf Class: Sorcerer (Draconic Bloodline, White Dragon) Background: Guild Artisan Personality: Claire is well spoken and easygoing. The type that could walk up to anyone and strike up a conversation. Kind and patient to a fault, she always tries to see the good in people, even when there isn't much good to see. Fiercely loyal to her allies. A bit insecure, especially in her body, considering that much of it is covered in dragon scales. In battle she's a different beast entirely, with her dragon side making itself known. Cunning and vicious, she isn't afraid to employ brutal tactics and fight dirty. Using her magic to bring out the strengths of her allies and overwhelm the enemy. She's been known to snarl, hiss, and cut a rather imposing figure when her dragon side comes out. Claire does have some hording instincts, but it's not for gold, gems, or even jewelry. She's managed to keep her hording instincts satisfied with buttons. Lots and lots of buttons. She has a big pouch of them that she carries with her at all times. All sorts of different shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. You know she's grown attached to you when she gifts you a button from her horde. Even if you don't see the value in that button, you better keep it safe. Backstory: Claire was born to two loving Half-Elf parents. As she grew older her hair became red and her eyes stayed that lovely blue, her parents were pretty sure that her eyes looking slightly different from each other was a trick of the light. They lived a modest life, there was never any worry about food being on the table or having a roof over their heads, but there was little coin left over for luxuries. Claire had always liked the cold. Her parents always had to remind her to bundle up before she went to play in the snow, as the cold didn't seem to remind her enough. When she was six, the blizzard hit. Her parents woke up in the middle of the night to find her standing outside in the middle of it, barefoot and in her nightgown, totally unphased. She woke up the next morning, itchy, uncomfortable, and with white, scale like bumps, beginning to form across parts of her whole body. Her parents rushed her to the cleric, who took one look at Claire and sent them in the direction of the local mage. He assured them, she wasn't sick, or cursed, or dying. She was just, magic. He explained that there was dragon somewhere in their bloodline and that now it was making itself known through Claire. Her father admitted that he had heard stories of his ancestors befriending a dragon, but had thought it was just a story. She spent the next couple of weeks miserable as the scales fully grew in, her eye that had always been a little off lightened further in color and her pupil became slit like a cat's. Her hair faded in color at the top, becoming white before slowly turning orange, and finally red at the bottom. The changes were easy enough to hide, clothes and hair covered scales and eye, her hair people just thought was pretty. It was instincts that were harder to hide. She was playing with the other kids in the town one day when a Goliath boy started bullying her. He pushed her, and she snarled, he didn't like that. A fist fight quickly broke out between the two of them, which she handily lost. But apparently it won over some sort of respect with the Goliath boy. They quickly went from enemies, to best friends. The two town weirdos forming a sort of non-romantic power couple. She and Arden ended up going to trade school together as they reached their teenage years. Arden went into the carpentry class, and Claire having always liked shiny things, picked jewelry making. Much to Claire's dismay, she quickly realized that giving up the jewelry she made was going to be a big problem. She did have hording instincts after all, something that she had really been hoping she had avoided getting. It was her teacher, an Elvish woman, who found a solution. For every piece of jewelry she made and gave up, she got a button. It was amazing how quickly her instincts attached to the buttons, and thus her horde was begun. Upon completing trade school, both Arden and Claire were dismayed to realize that there wasn't enough space in their town for either of them. Arden was signed on to a carpentry company that was far north, Claire was assigned to apprentice with a jeweler in a nearby city. They haven't seen each other since. Claire spent three years working for this jeweler. One day she was assigned a new task, she was to be part of the wagon that was bringing their jewelry to a merchant in another city to sell it. Her job was to hand it over to the merchant, maybe flirt a little to get a better deal, get the coin, and return. A small group of adventurers was hired to protect the wagon. Although when they were attacked by bandits, they proved to not be quite as useful as they were supposed to be. Claire fought the bandits off mostly herself. The ones who hadn't run away were fired immediately and Claire finished the job herself. Upon her return, her employer asked what had happened to the adventurers. Claire explained what had happened. Her employer was the first person to the put the idea of becoming an adventurer herself in her head. She could protect people, make sure that towns got their supplies, she clearly had the nerve for it. A few months later, Claire decided to go for it and signed up for her first job as an adventurer. She tries to move north as much as she can for jobs, in hopes that maybe she'll get to see Arden again.

Flavor.

It was created for a 5e/Diablo game and is only lv 3 so technically can't be necro or eldritch yet. As it is multi class.
