Cyberpunk 2020: Nip/Tuck

Cyberpunk 2020: Nip/Tuck

Attention: Deadline for submitting/completing applications is 10:00pm EST Friday 10/28/22

"Billie Glamor?! She's a corporate-owned poseur."

- Johnny Silverhand

SystemCyberpunk 2020 (2e)

SettingThe year is 2020.

The world of Cyberpunk takes place in an alternate reality that diverged from our world in 1989.

In 1990, the United States invaded Central America to eradicate coca and opium plants that fueled the drug-trade. Rather than collapse as it did in our world, the Soviet Union sought reconciliation with Western Europe. In 1992, the European Union and USSR established an economic alliance called the European Economic Community (EEC). The EEC used legal and illegal trade practices to get the edge on other nations, such as China and the United States. Panicked forces within the United States government used stock market fraud in an attempt to keep the United States on top. In reaction to this fraud, the developed countries of the world instituted embargoes on United States trade. This led to the Crash of '94, an economic depression that destroyed the United States.

As a result of the Crash of '94, local governments within the United States began to go bankrupt. Public services, such as the police and hospitals, were privatized. Real-estate mogul Richard Night purchased a small town located between Los Angeles and San Francisco and rebranded it "Night City." No more pesky government regulations meant that billions could be dumped into its rapid development. Corps reorganized and zoned urban areas to eliminate crime. But when Night was assassinated in his penthouse in 1998, the corps resorted to infighting. Corruption and crime became rampant. Neighborhoods that had once received corporate backing fell into disrepair. While the corps control the center of Night City with an iron fist, gangs run the peripheral neighborhoods.

In 2001, the corps created the Net from the remnants of the old World Wide Web. From 2004 - 2020, privatized, corporate paramedics known as Trauma Team cater to the rich, while back alley surgeons with questionable credentials, known as ripperdocs, tend to the poor and destitute. People get "chromed up" with cyberware to augment their crud lives. Rock bands perform music about tearing down the corps. Mercs work for anyone who can afford to pay them...

PlotBillie Glamor is a Canadian singer and songwriter. At age 16, she signed a two-album recording contract with Chrome City Records. Her debut studio album, Gimme Danger (2020), is the best-selling album of the 21st century by a Canadian artist. The singles "Problematic" and "C0rpo Girl" emphasized a cyberpunk persona and earned her the title "Cyberpunk Queen" from music publications. She has paved the way for female-driven, chrome-influenced pop music. Her second studio album, Playing For Time (2022), became her first album to reach the top of the Billboard 200 chart in the United States, going on to sell 10 million copies worldwide.

The characters are members of her entourage. Examples include:
  • Rocker: You're one of Billie's bandmates. Guitar, bass, drums, or keyboard.
  • Solo: You're Billie's bodyguard. You get paid to keep her safe from boosters and zealous fans.
  • Corporate: You're Billie's agent from Chrome City Records. You're there to ensure she keeps raking in eddies.
  • Fixer: You're Billie's manager. It's your job to find her new gigs.
  • Media: You're an employee with Network News 54 who tags along to get the hottest intel about Billie.
  • Netrunner: You're responsible for maintaining Billies's virtual presence on the Net, so her fans can interact with her ICON.
  • Nomad: You drive Billie and the group around in the tour bus.
  • Techie: You're responsible for managing Billie's gear. Amps, lights, mics, speakers, etc.

Billie finished a gig in Los Angeles. You think NC is bad?! LA is worse. The tour bus is headed back to Night City along US 101. Got any questions, choom?!

Huh, your stuff tends to be pretty good. Might try to expand this with the Lifepath thing later.

Application
right-aligned image

Handle: Shift

Role: Nomad

Appearance: It's anyone's guess where they pulled Shift out of. You can tell he's a Nomad immediately just by looking at him, the rough around the edges look is hard to miss. A bit of a fan of the old Rock-A-Billy aesthetic he frequently wears A-Frame T-shirts to show off his retro tattoos. Rarely is seen without his signature cowboy hat at least nearby. Intentionally working to make his chrome less than obvious, most of what he has is actually meant for improving his Driving. With a gun or two tucked away for a rough occasion.

Background: Shift, birth name Simon Jode, grew up with stories claiming that the legendary Malachi Jode was his Uncle. He now knows the stories were crap told to the kids to wind them up but a bit too late to do anything about it. Yeah, his last name really is Jode and they probably are distant cousins or something but not enough for it to do anything but cause grief.

Still, the stories worked he had to suppose. They got him to do things for the Family and Clan. In Simon's case, that meant getting to know Cars. Now just how to fix 'em, but how to drive 'em, how to Feel them. How to Zen with them. Sure, Simon Jode has experience and some chrome to help with the job, but the relationship between Simon and Cars is almost spiritual. Like when he really cut loose in a car he doesn't just rev up the motor and up the nitrous but he tries to truly become *one* with the vehicle.

Which is to say he tried to make a name for himself on the underground racing circuits and he did great *for how many eddies he could sink into his wheels*, but in the end those that could buy their wins put him out of business. Fortunately, more than a few Corpos are fans of the underground racing circuits and when they heard he was broke one of them was willing to pull a few strings.

Let's be clear - Simon Jode thinks Billie Glamour's music is at best way to sugary and that she's never had to actually work for a thing in her life. During concerts he usually is either asleep on the bus, fixing something, or spending his eddies on getting a new racer together. He's never actually sat in on one of those shows in his life, and the one time they tried to make him he intentionally picked a fight at the venue to get kicked out. He's just in this so he can build a better Racer, one that can put up a fight against the rich kids on the circuits. But Simon Jode believes that if someone pays him to do a job he should do his best no matter what, and if that means moving Billie Glamour from Point A to Point B quickly and safely then by God she's getting to Point B without even her hair getting messed up. Seatbelts on chooms, this next part looks a little rough.

Just awaiting the outcome of another app as I want to commit to a game and not spread my time too thin.

So if that does not go in my favour I shall submit an app.
