Kingmaker

Game NameKingmaker
Game SystemPathfinder 2nd Edition
ThemeHigh Fantasy with Kingdom Building
FlavourHigh Fantasy, Serious as the players want to be
Plot Summary The Stolen Lands have long been the domain of bandits and monsters, but no longer! Your party has been granted a charter to explore these wilds, defeat its dangers, and build a brand new nation. Yet not everyone will welcome you as new neighbors, and powerful supernatural forces have their own plans for the regions. Can you defeat your kingdom’s enemies and become one of the greatest new nations in the world?

——————

This is an adaptation of the recently converted Kingmaker Adventure Path published by Paizo and Legendary games. It is for the Pathfinder 2nd Edition game. If you’ve played the original for Pathfinder 1e or the video game, this has similar themes but is a much expanded game experience.

This is for fans of high fantasy and kingdom building. You and your fellow players are assigned a charter to clear out an unclaimed area of land and create your own nation. It introduces optional kingdom building and mass combat rules for PF2e.

What characters do you allow?
First level characters, including any published ancestry, background or class offered by Paizo. No evil characters. We will be using the variant Free Archtype rules in the GMG.

Posting requirements?
I ask for 1 post a day, with weekend posting optional.

Acceptance form and deadline?
Character submission will be accepted until October 4th, and I will choose the characters if there are more than 4 submissions.

How are we doing maps?
Maps will be hosted on Foundry. A free Forge account will have to be created, I will send rhw link to participating players via DM. The game itself will be run on this site, including all dice rolls.

What do I need to apply]
I’m not looking for completed character stats — I just want a feel for what your character is like, and what you are like as a player, as well as what you want out of the game. I want to know what you want for me to do as a DM as this is as much your game as it is mine. So a background for your character, what the character’s personality is like, and a little about you and what you want out of the game. If you want to do stats, that’s fine, but it is absolutely not necessary at this stage.

I hope to be gaming with you soon!

I'm interested in seeing how Kingmaker works out in PF2.

Just making sure you're saying you expect everyone to post ONCE A DAY. That seems to be high expectations, considering most threads are 2-3 a week. Not saying I'm against it, just clarifying.

I would prefer once a day, not including weekends, but I’m flexible on that.

Hmm always wanted to do a kingdom builder game using a necromancer - would you consider a non evil Necromancer ? Maybe Undead lord Cleric ?

Not official posting - but thinking a person who has no issues with the dead/undead who sees the benefit of using undead for free labor and protection

As a person, I'm analytical, cooperative, and try to view topics from different perspectives. I will be playing a noble savage Half Orc seeking to find safe pastures for other Half Orcs. In too many cultures Half Orcs are shunned by both parental races. Since we don't belong to neither, we should create our own unique culture.

NOTE; My laptop fried and we have a hurricane heading our way, so it might be difficult to get on for long before Saturday.

Kingmaker is pretty darn neat sounding, and it being 'updated' sounds even neater. I made a champion named Rosticek 'Rusty' Mundbee to apply for the adventure on another site but didn't get picked, so here's his second swing at life.

Rusty is a farmboy-turned-adventurer, of the tall, strong and good-natured sort. Unusually for a farmboy-turned-adventurer, when the farmstead was attacked by bandits, he successfully subdued them; Rusty's family is alive and kicking back in Creektown. His attitude and temperament owes a lot to both his rural upbringing, and his devotion to Pharasma; to everything there is a time and a season, and more often than not, the seasons roll back on around. After every winter there's a spring, after all.

He's Brevic to the bone, and wants to take part in the adventure in the Stolen Lands to Do The Right Thing.

As a player, I'm most happy when everyone else is also having a good time, and a good and interesting story is being told. I'm the forever DM in my tabletop group, and usually in my set of friends online, and the general mindset has definitely infected my approach to gaming.

I'm debating this, even though I usually post far less than once a day, just because it's PF2e. We'll see if I get one up in time, or at all.

I would be interested in applying, but given the fact that I'd essentially be learning a new system on the fly, and with a posting rate of 1/day I feel that would be too much for me.

Still, I wish you luck with the game.

Couple questions

1 Can you tell us what type of terrain we'll be claiming? Different architecture and resources which are dictated by such.
2. Technology level (pre black powder, post black powder)

Hair: Ash grey to violet, mid-length, neat
Eyes: Green, large, very round
Face: Angular, with a small mouth
Build: Narrow shoulders and waist, long legs and arms, long and well-groomed tail
Backstory and PersonalitySprang into being 2 years ago in a cemetery, at the time appearing to be 15 years old. She was found by the caretaker, Digsby, an older ysoki man. His family immediately adopted her, though it took a few weeks for some of them to fully accept her -- both because she was a catfolk, and because she sprang into being in a cemetery. The latter probably wasn't a huge deal really, because the family is primarily morticians and medics, so they live in the very cemetery she was found in.

As the family is very large, Sees-Beyond has become accustomed to large families, and adopts people into her found family readily. The family is also very rich, but she doesn't spend money all willy-nilly; she likes to save where she can.

Both because of her family's profession (and home location) and her heritage, Sees-Beyond is not a fan of undead, and will not work with necromancers. She will gladly hunt them down and kill them, however, as well as their undead minions. While she has never met an intelligent skeleton, there would probably be a little animosity toward them, even if it wasn't their choice to come back to unlife.

Sees-Beyond wants to see more of the world, so she took up adventuring only very recently. Her family promoted her wanderlust with little adventures for her into the nearby towns for chores, but it didn't allow her to explore enough. She isn't out for the shinies, but will take them (and likely bring them home). She just wants to help people and maybe leave the world a better place.

In her past life, she was a gunsmith killed by an assassin sent by a rival. She wishes to right that wrong, either by killing the assassin or the rival, but she has some trepidation still. She doesn't think she's ready for the task yet.

I actually just saw that you're using Foundry VTT. I post exclusively on my phone (I have no computer or non-phone internet), so unless there's a mobile version of it (I just checked: there isn't), or you're willing to go a different route or accommodate for that (I'm not demanding that), I'm going to have to bow out.

Edit: Just looked up Foundry (I've never used it before). Connect through web browser. So MAYBE I can? Unless it works like Roll20 does on phones (horribly). May have to test it.

Okay so here's my application!
Character
right-aligned image
Name: Hereward
Age: 16 (and a half)
Gender: Male, sexuality undiscovered
Alignment: True Neutral
Religious Preference: Undecided
Ancestry/Heritage: Great Gnoll
Background: Necromancer's Apprentice
Class: Magus (Starlit Span)
Party Role: Burst DPS, ranged combat, Knowledge
History: Hereward was once a young child who had been captured far from his own community. It wasn't exactly kidnapping; He had been 'adopted' by a party of adventurers after they had fought his parents to the death in a conflict over a magical object.

The party's wizard, a necromancer, took a liking to the little gnoll and started raising him. He turned out to grow up to be not so little, which made him a prime apprentice. She worked him to the bone, sometimes literally working with bones. Those several years she and her party felt they were doing him a favor by raising him and giving him something to do. Hereward never wanted any of that. He didn't want to be a necromancer, nor did he really like half the people who were raising him. Especially after he found out they had been responsible for his parent's deaths. Not that he blamed them; the conflict had been unavoidable and he was glad to have survived at all because some adventurers really didn't spare the young of races they thought were monsters.

Hereward spent as much time as he could get away with hanging around the group's ranger. The archer was at first reticent to share tricks and secrets, but eventually he warmed up to Hereward and taught him the basics of archery. Hereward took that info and the basics of magic he had learned from his master and discovered his true calling as a Magus. It took him a few years of honing his craft to really blend magic and archery together, but he eventually managed to figure it out despite having to really hide it from his adoptive family. (They really did know, it's hard to hide stuff like that from adventurers, but they generally understood it was a private thing and left him to it)

He left the group when he turned 16, leaving behind a letter for his master and the party telling them he'd gone off to discover himself and he'd come back when he'd done so. That last part was a lie, as he had never intended on coming back to them though he still feels conflicted about abandoning the people who spent energy, time, and money raising him. When the call came out for people to help reclaim the Stolen Lands, Hereward presented himself. He had no idea if he would be accepted by humans in the new lands, but he intended on proving himself regardless. Perhaps those adventurers would find him his own person when he returned victorious from the Stolen Lands.

Personality: Hereward is not exactly quiet, but he's a kid who has seen WAY more stuff in his youth than many adults have in their entire lives, and as such has developed a sort of unflappable calm demeanor. That has nothing to do with what's actually going on in his head, of course, but he at least comports himself in a steadfast manner. In truth, Hereward actually hasn't had the chance to really enjoy things the way that children did, so sometimes his guise slips when he witnesses things of innocent beauty, like butterflies perched on flowers, or gods forbid, an attractive lady gnoll.

Just wanna say I love Hereward, and if I end up being in this game (if I'm picked and Foundry cooperates with phones), I hope he and Sees-Beyond can be friends

Awww thank you!

Hereward is willing to interact with anyone who treats him with some respect. He wouldn't exactly know what to do if someone actually was friendly to him.

Character infoName: Entwined Roots
Ancestry: Leshy
Class: Leaf Order Druid
Background: Plant Whisperer

History: It is no secret that the Stolen Lands have resisted cultivation and "civilization" for a very long time, with prior efforts to colonize and settle it meeting with dismal failure. With this in mind, an order of druids, having received word of a renewed effort to settle the region, went to Brevoy with a proposal: They would invest a friendly spirit with a leshy vessel, one that would serve as envoy and mediator between the settlers and the wilderness. In return, the leshy would be granted status within the expedition that would allow it to steer development in ways that are harmonious, rather than detrimental, to the natural ecosystem of the Stolen Lands.

Entwined Roots is that leshy. Friendly, impossibly cute, and seemingly harmless until provoked, it is dedicated to the spirit of compromise and symbiosis, and intensely curious about all manner of living beings.

About meI am a big fan of interpersonal interactions between characters and seeing how characters and their relationships develop over time. Likewise, I appreciate good depth of worldbuilding, and the opportunity to start and develop a new nation is one of the things that draws me to this adventure path.

I'm a big believer in regular OOC communication. I like to bounce ideas off of other players and explore "wouldn't it be cool if?" notions related to our characters. In games like Pathfinder, I tend to gravitate towards support abilities that help other PCs shine and fill necessary (if sometimes unglamorous) niches.
