Castle Angouleme - Needs 1 (maybe 2) more players

The History of Britannia and the New World
As told by Captain Morris, hero of the Commonwealth,
on his final journey in service to our King, A.D. 701

My fellow countrymen. Things were not always as they are now.” The captain began his speech with the traditional words. Words that were spoken by Lord Nelson all those years ago. The men on the deck of the King George had been waiting for nearly half an hour for the captain to make his appearance. The sun was just beginning to peak above the horizon, and the mists were starting to recede a little . . . an unusual site indeed in the damnable water of Amerigo’s Gulf. The crew was restless. They wanted to know why they were in these dangerous seas.

The captain continued . . . “In the dark past, our brave forefathers hailed from across the ocean, from a small, contemptible island in Europa. Our ancestors were driven to this continent by the Gauls under the leadership of the house of Bonaparte, our mortal enemy. They now pay the price for their insolence, locked in an eternal struggle with Prussia--two mules fighting over a patch of dirt and a few carrots.” The crew chuckled respectfully. Captain Morris’ sense of humor was understated but appreciated.

It was here, in Ameriga, that we established our everlasting kingdom, both North and South, and it was here that the Commonwealth of England was birthed and grew into the magnificent jewel we all know and love. It was also here that tragedy struck, betrayed by the infernal usurper, Washington, and his demonic hosts. He brought the Calamity upon our noble Commonwealth, especially upon those who took his mark and worshiped his image.” A murmur of agreement and discomfort erupted from the men of the King George at the bold words from Captain Morris.

Most of the men on deck believed the stories of Washington’s collusion with the Devil. They were taught from childhood that he used infernal magic to rebel against the King and split the Commonwealth of Britannia completely in two. They were also taught as children that the devil betrayed him and brought the Calamities down upon the United Colonies: the fire and molten rock that erupted from the earth on Canadia’s southern border; the abyssal mist that descended upon the United Colonies; the hurricanes and floods that sent most of the Grand Peninsula beneath the waves, never to return.

It was not, or course, what the masses were taught in school. This was the age of reason after all. Washington was a traitor to the crown, no doubt, but there was no Devil, and the calamities were perfectly natural. The Great Architect made this world to operate according to mathematical and natural principles. There was no room in the clock-work universe for the Devil and infernal Washington, his anti-christ.

Now, after 157 years, the curse is lifting. The mists are starting to recede, and for the first time in the memory of any living . . .” The captain paused. He knew what effect his words would have, and he wanted to be careful. “The land of Amerigo’s Folly has been sighted.” A number of outbursts erupted from the crew: alarm, disbelief, and amazement. They knew their journey into the gulf was unusual for this time of year. When they set sail from New London under orders of strictest secrecy, the crew speculated as to what their mission might be. But this . . . this was beyond belief.

The captain raised his hands to silence his men. “The mists have parted only slightly, and land has been sighted. We have been dispatched to investigate, for the glory of God and our great King.

And soon we will know what happened to our treacherous brethren all those years ago.

I am looking for two additional players for my new game, Castle Angouleme. It is set in an alternate universe British Empire, roughly equivalent to 18th century Europe. The game will be a tale of the supernatural horror and high adventure. It will use some d20 Past and Call of Cthulhu rules, though players will need neither books to play.

The forum is here:

http://www.rpgcrossing.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2348

I have only created the basics of the campaign world, so we can collectively create the rest together. Make sure you fully arm yourself with the game rule and campaign information before PMing me your character concept. On Tuesday, I will PM the one or two players whose submissions I select, so character creation can begin. As soon as you get your PM, you should begin posting IC. Our two current players will be beginning shortly. You will join the game in progress.

Though I have tried, it is hard to describe the level of RP I am looking for. We all have different expectations and experiences. So . . . to keep things simple, check out the link below to another game I'm in. This is about what I'm looking for and hope to produce as the DM.

The Final Expedition of the H.M.S. Norfolk
A Tale of Woe, 1 October, 701

The Norfolk had only been moored in New London for a score of days before she received orders to put out to sea again. The orders were delivered to the captain by military currier, and when the captain disappeared into his cabin on the quarter deck to review the parcel, he did not return for many hours. When he made his next appearance on the poop deck well after dark, the captain's face was white and, for the first time in his forty-five years of military service, Captain Blackmore looked unsure of himself. His unusual demeanor was not lost on the skeleton crew that manned the ship while it was in the harbor . . . and they knew what must surely come next. That evening the captain gave the order to recall the crew and prepare to make way.

***

Rumors immediately began to fly around New London. The word was that the Norfolk was being dispatched into the Gulf. There could only be a handful of reasons for this--the Crown did not lightly dispatch the most fearsome Man-O-War in the Commonwealth, South without grave need. To send her into the relatively sheltered (and by some accounts, cursed) waters of the Gulf was unprecedented. Something ominous was afoot. War perhaps, or something worse.

***

The Norfolk was outfitted in a fortnight and readied for sea, but Blackmore did not give the order to depart. He was waiting for something. It wasn’t the sea that held him back. The sky was dark and moody, not unusual for October, but the wind was tight. And besides, nothing scared Blackmore. No, he was waiting for more orders . . . or additional crew.

On the morning of September 30, a small contingent of Red Coats (probably Royal Marines), boarded ship and took up a rather secluded residence at the rear of the middle deck with the officers. Other strangers--land lovers, by the look of them--boarded the Norfolk over most of the next day. Then, as suddenly as Noah shut up the ark and sent the rest of the world to hell, the Norfolk pulled up its gangs, and pushed out to sea. The journey into the Gulf was as easy as it was bleak. Morale was low, and a feeling of dread and doom haunted the crew. A few of the galley slaves spoke to one another as if this were their final voyage. But they were savages with a savage tongue. What did they know?

The final voyage of the H.M.S. Norfolk is underway, but Castle Angouleme needs another player--maybe two if the applications are good. You will not be starting out on the Norfolk with the others; your's is a more sinister genesis.

You will find the forum here:

http://www.rpgcrossing.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2348

Read all the material carefully and then PM me with your character. I would like to have at least one "business person" on this journey, someone who specializes in commerce (upstanding capitalist or first-rate villain are both fine). Trust me; it will be worth your while. If your character material is accepted, I will open up the dice thread to you so you can roll your ability scores (if you so choose) and HPs.

Okay . . . I'll bite, though I can't usually post every day. If you accept me, you will probably want a second player. Perhaps we could be a team (husband/wife, brother/sister, etc.) I'll PM you my concept now and have the rest of my stuff by tonight (EST).

I, also, am interested, and will try to have a character concept and background to you tonight.

LIVO: If you're interested, I'd be happy to work out histories together: business partners, spouses, siblings, businessman and bodyguard, whatever.

It is not essential that you are a d20 Modern expert, but you must be willing to put in the time and effort to learn the game from the SRD (no small feat) and make all the necessary d20 Past and Call of Cthulhu adjustments from the rules supplement in the game forum.

The game is now closed (again). Those who have posted in this thread (LivO, Jinx_Greyflower, and Gslingland), please get me your concepts ASAP.
