I'm back, I have lots of useful information. Just ask the right questions... IC of course! At some point you all should start putting clues together to start making the connections of what's going on. But think of it this way, you're all only on your 3rd day in town, COUNTING the day of the Funeral. Everything can't happen at once!

I botched my roll with the Priest. The professor died at Harrowstone... Therefore, what do you guys think about exploring The RestLands? It does keep popping up in conversations so it definetly is something we should check out!

Some of the questions you are asking each other (good questions) can be best answered through researching the archives of the various places (church, city, professor) and rolling a skill check to get the answer you need.

I know you're all dying for combat (no pun intended), I would be too. But since this is the first book of SIX, and you all are in the third day of a max-30 day quest, don't be too eager to bypass knowing something that will make things make sense, instead of it being a 'dungeon crawl' which it ISN'T.
At the city records, everyone make either a Gather Information check, or an ASSIST check in Gather Information. And just so I don't have to look up EVERY character sheet, who has what score in Knowledge Local or Knowledge History? If sufficiently high, I might be inclined to lower the DC on the Gather Information if you already have some 'background' in what you're trying to find out in the research. Also, if it helps, go back and re-read the Professor's journal, he gives clues you can follow up on.

You don't have to be trained to roll Gather INformation, so you don't have to be skilled in it to assist.

That's why it's backed up in the research with Gather INformation, which doens't have to be trained, and can also be 'assisted' by another.

Kazgar, Dwarf Barbarian
OK, not sure the barbarian would actually piece this together - so it's probably PLAYER KNOWLEDGE creeping in:
the gargoyle head smashed the professor's face in - was the body positively IDed? need to research cabal Whispering Way need list of all prisoners who died need to locate, record and research symbols on harrowstone foundation Vesorianna was 'out of control' at prison - perhaps she was possessed at the time? monument - blood spatter - was there a named spelled out in the pattern?

A few of those I can answer here for you:
Body was positively identified as the professor. The down side of his 'crushed skull' was no way to 'talk to dead' to find out what happened. Of the prisoners who died (all of them), only five names are significant: Father Charlatan, The Lopper (Vance Sactressle), The Mosswater Marauder (Ispin Onyxcudgel), The Piper of Illmarsh (real name unknown) and The Splatter Man (Hean Feramin). To learn more about THEM will take research... and skill rolls (but the Councilman being with you gives you a plus on the rolls). Records and testimony indicate Vesorianna was 'out of control' in trying to rescue her husband, who was trapped in the lower levels with the rioting prisoners. The blood at the Memorial only spelled the letter V. There was no other hidden letters or message.
