Depending on how the baking goes tonight, I'll try to get on one more post before the holidays. Afterwords I'm pretty much out of reach until Sunday. If I don't talk to you before then, have a great Thanksgiving if you practice it!

As you can see, baking did not go well:

Baking is an arcane and mysterious Alchemy. Probably still yummy though

Tbf it really was. It got sacrificed on the alter of Cannibudia to make room for the cake I'm frantically baking this morning.

Welcome back! I missed my US friend's Thanksgiving this year, but caught them for the beginning of their Hanukkah festivities instead. Having never done very much around this time of year for anything, it was fun to be included! I will have to clear my schedule for the full thanksgiving next year.

I really wish I had some traditional Jewish friends. I would love to participate in Hanukkah celebrations one year. The one Jewish family I'm close to lights a menorah but they focus on more western Christmas traditions and carols.
So before I reveal who's doing what job, I wanna talk a bit about the process. I kind of expected Graak to clean house but the rolls were really close. I decided to use the double time rules and see how many passes we had at a DC 20, since at a table you'd be making the rolls in order and get the option to double time or not. I dunno that anyone particularly cares what they're day job is, but I wanted to be transparent.

Despite the rolls being close, I suspect Graak had a deftness the other two lacked

Or just a complete lack of care for his own safety. Thank Besmara for friendly pirates, eh? XD
All of the info threads under Pirates' Tales have been updated and reflect current information. Dramatic Personae in particular is about to have a massive surge as you folks move about the boat.

I had to double check myself because a straight ability check is pretty unusual and I was running on fumes getting all that up last night. It is indeed a [Constitution] check, though you passed either way, Dirkly.

The things you learn when you run a game. I had no idea bilges were pumped from the main but I can see why. The book has the pump operation in the bilge itself, though, presumably for other events that happen later in the book.

In newer vessels, the pump itself is indeed in the bilge hold. But, since they tend to be motorized, the holds can be smaller, and the pumps run/powered automatically.
It's possible to put a siphon pump (think of a water well style pump) in the belly of the ship itself, with a wheel crank or a handle pump, with a hose leading to an above deck for discharge, but... that requires more room for the personnel to operate it, and is less effective. If you have one like this, it's not likely to be in the bilge well itself, it will be slightly above it where there's room to operate it, and it will draw from the bilge well. On larger ships, you would need many of those, or, a more efficient system, the double elm. Very big ships might have two "double elms", in order to pump water out. Anyhow, I found the challenge fascinating, and I got to explore a bit (pretty cool engineering in an elm pump, honestly. Also, we still transfer material in very similar manner to this day, in other industries. We just don't use hollowed out trees, we use steel boxes and tubes).

Hm. Maybe pumping the bilge should be changed to cleaning the bilge, making sure any large debris is cleared from the intakes.

I kind of left that as an opening for the NPC to say.
He could say nothing, he could say clean the debris, he could say it's just punishment... stand in the worst place all day, get cold, smelly, diseased...
