Could a draygon drive a waygon?
I'm not sure exactly what our party is up to right now, so I won't post anything in character in this first post, but here are some tips to regard or disregard at your leisure: -It is a good idea to put your current HP and any relevant status info in the title field of your post. This can be very handy. -If you edit a post with dice rolls in it, you will get big red warnings and things. Don't worry about that. -Most people like to seperate OOC comments with FIELDSET tags or just make them in the OOC thread. FIELDSET tags are great for describing the mechanics of what you're doing with your character. -Post early, post often!

The band of adventurers was headed into the desolate frozen lands of the northeast. In South Uptillis, a small settlement of dwarves and humans, the party rested in a monastery to the Dwarven god Moradin. The abbot of said establishment provided a little background on the nearby village of Ice Mountain Sanctuary. Ice Mountain Sanctuary, the party learned, was established by refugees fleeing from turbulence in the west some centuries ago. Due to its isolated location and harsh climate it was spared from violence or invasion over the course of its history, although it had its occasion issues with local criminals and the like. It is buoyed by the fur trade in the surrounding mountains, as trappers often come down into the town for provisions or a pint of porter. In recent days, however, the town has been troubled by a particularly cold spell. The town's herd of goats and sheep, critical to the survival of the settlement, has dwindled due to attacks from hungry creatures. The abbot asked the party to bring five goats to Ice Mountain Sanctuary, and the party accepted his request and set off at dawn the next morning. Along the way the terrain grew steadily more rocky and barren and it was clear that frost formed on the ground nightly. After several hours snow covered the ground and the temperature dropped significantly - the party had entered the permafrost tundra surrounding Ice Mountain Sanctuary. All was not quiet, however, and the party was attacked by a lone creature of ice. The fight proved fierce, as the foul creature had the capacity to deal tremendous damage with its cold attack. The party prevailed, although the creature almost got the last laugh in his dying act. The party, beleaguered and injured, trudged on through the snow. After several more hours of travel, the party could see little wisps of smoke rising in the distance, wisps that could only mean the presence of houses, cozy fireplaces, and hot food. |

Adunakhor grinned at the thought of some warmth and decent food. He reached down and patted Ella Marie in her loop as he ploughed on through the drifts, clearing a path for the humans. Last edited by Cearnacht; Aug 23rd, 2010 at 02:18 PM. |

Wolfric, realizing what Adunakhor was trying to do, quickly bounded over and joined in the snow-plowing effort. Æthelræd followed lightly behind, looking at the sky every once in a while to make sure the giant owl was following closely behind without too much trouble.

The sky was a heavy ceiling of grey stretching as far as they eye could see. A light and airy fog was starting to settle in over the tundra as dusk approached. The rapid retreat of the sun made for a sudden and acute drop in temperature. The town, however, loomed up ahead, and seemed to be just an hour or two away.

The silent giant of the group was happy to follow in the path ploughed out by Adunakhor and the wolf. Although he had slowly grown acquainted with if not used to the civilized lands of the west, it felt good for the half-orc to be once again among the snow and wide, open tundra.
Geb did not mind the acute drop in temperature as night fell. In fact, one of the few noises the party members heard from Geb as they traveled was a happy growl upon feeling the ice of the northern night once again. As Geb and the party approached the town, Geb's footfalls, though always quiet, became thoroughly mute. It was a natural reaction to the approach of an occupied area, not a real anticipation of danger.

Geb's heavy half-orc feet were surprisingly quiet as he trudged along, undoubtedly made all the more silent by the snow blanketing the ground, which was light and flaky. To the untrained ear, he was moving entirely silently, his steps masked by the sound of the dwarf and the wolf clearing a path through the snow ahead.

As Æthelræd nimbly followed the group, he took a second to scan the surroundings to see if he could see whether or not any other creatures had walked their path recently...

The elven druid noticed that there were indeed tracks on the ground, although they were slightly obscured by snow that had fallen recently. It appears a herd of sheep or goats had been on that road in recent days, along with a small pack of what appeared to be very large wolves. It could be deduced that the wolves were traveling perhaps an hour or two behind the herd - safely out of sight of any shepherd but close enough to keep the scent.

Upon realizing this, Æthelræd attempted to use his knowledge of the natural world to attempt to deduce both the number and species of the wolves that lived in the area.

While it was impossible to know the total wolf population in the area, it was safe to assume that the pack following the shepherd's herd numbered between four and six. The paw prints looked very similar to an ordinary wolf's, but were much larger than would be expected.

Adunakhor ignored the feeble elf's wussy knowledge of the woodsies and such. In fact, Aethelraed was very lucky that the surly dwarf was so dang cold and stiff, or he would have ben the object of the time-honored tradition of Dwarven knees finding Elven groins. Adunakhor's eyes were on the prize: a warm fire and a warmer keg of ale.

Keeping the wolves in mind, Æthelræd too looked forward to getting to the village, delivering the sheep, and finding out more about the area. |

Geb, too, looks forward to getting to the village, but only because it is the next step in his current mission. He is enjoying the wilderness.
Geb continues quietly covering the ground approaching the village.
