At the Boatseller's:
The boats man almost looks offended. He knows his boat has some dings, but it's a fine yew boat. Did this man instantly notice the ship's only major blemish? He eyes Thamuz uncomfortably. Damned Pirate! This be a fine ship, Misser. An' er sail all the way twa Xiao if'n need be. But oi' admit she not perfect. I can drop da price to 900. The ship is in solid condition for an old boat. It has more than a few scratches but polish can take care of those. There is one small hole that can be plugged with a special puddy made from clay and muck. The biggest thing wrong is the bend in the rudder. That needs to be fixed or replaced. A new one of the same quality may run 50-75 gold. It's likely why he's willing to drop the price so much. |

Nanaki follows along silently, having only the barest knowledge of ships and their workings, so she entertains herself by looking around at the people on the docks. Most of the people are too busy to even notice her, and those that do have seen enough to not be shocked by her appearance, but occasionally she'll catch the eye of someone who is staring open mouthed at her. She smiles and continues to look over the crowds. Occasionally she will see people that are possibly Bruun that she watches more closely for a while before her eyes wander once again. She speaks to herself softly, "I do look like a Bruun, no doubt." Then she shrugs and puts the idea out of her head.

Thamuz gives the boatseller a sideways glance, Intimidate 21, Diplomacy 19semi-menacing. "Oi think ye'll let her go fer 850. We do 'ave to repair tha' rudda, an' ye woul'nt want any word gettin aroun that yer sellin' faulty ships, now, would ye?"

"Stay with Jason," Nerra whispered to Shandar before she wandered aboard while Thamuz was arguing with the boat merchant. She poked around, doing her own inspection of the schooner since her sight was far more limited than that of the others. When she finally emerged, she walked down the gangplank and rejoined the others. "Since the first money we're going to dip into is what my mother gave me, I get a say in the price," she stated calmly, as though her word were law.
Her cloudy amber eyes rested lightly on the merchant for a moment before she spoke again. Nerra had been going over the main deck one last time when Thamuz commented about the rudder. "Would you be willing to do 850? The Captain's right about having to repair the rudder, which will cost a bit of gold. Plus, there's also a few other minor issues that even I can identify that need to be taken care of. Mostly cosmetic, yes, but they should still be taken care of. Whether we take care of those while underway or whether we take care of them before we leave, they will need to be repaired before long or we will be risking her falling apart on us."

Draim grumbled during the negotiations as he looked around for a place to get a drink. He quickly came to the conclusion that the only place was a bit further towards the town, not this far out on the docks. Disappointed he turned his attention back to the boat talks and found they had only dropped it a few hundred gold. With an audible sigh Draim turned around and walked to the edge of the dock to stare into the water.

Boat Negotiations:
Very well, the boatsman srubs his stubbly chin and sighs. Ye' win, Pirate. He looks at Nerra and Nanaki, Can't very well argue with such lovely ladies. They always gert da best of moi'. He sells you the boat for 850 gold. As a group, figure out how to make the payment( let me know so I can check that you paid). For now, the deal is done. The man will have some of his lads untie the boat and give you the rope (kinda like getting a set of car keys). The boat is on the shore. It'll take eight people to drag it or push it into the water. The man tells you he can keep the boat safe while you look for sailors. But he wants the gold now. So, he's assured a sale. Now it's time for your party to get organized and set. Some of you will want to be involved in recruiting the sailors. Some will want to find provisions, as you'll be at sea for five or six days. Some of you may want to stay with the boat. Nearby locations (within site of the boat) include The Slaughtered Sea Horse (spelled Slotered Se Hors) Tavern, a slaver ship, a merchant ship, a fish/sushi and gumbo market, and the docks themselves, which could be a waiting place for willing sailors. A little inland is a general store, flea market, Incense and oils merchant, tobacco shop, and another bar- The Platinum Anchor, also known for its socialites. (feel free to use the Discussion Thread (sticky) I put above the game chapters if you like to organize and plan. The party may even want to advertise their want for a good crew- minus details of their main objectives.) Last edited by Demandred69; Feb 22nd, 2011 at 01:07 AM. |

Once she was in the merchant's office, Nerra dug out the purse that her mother gave her. She began counting out the gold agreed upon. It took a few minutes, but she soon had all 850 pieces of gold resting on the man's desk. "There you go. 850 gold. Having watched me count it out right in front of you and since I have no reason to cheat you, there should be no arguments that that's the right amount. However, if you want to recount the gold yourself, I'm willing to wait here and watch you recount it."
After paying the boatsman, regardless of whether he recounted or not, Nerra walked out of his office and walked over to where she'd left Shandar. "Nanaki, would you like me to bring you a bit of sushi? Shandar, if you're not coming with me, would you like me to bring you a bit back?"

Thamuz nods to Nerra's request, thanking her. He turns to Alias. "Alias, Oi need ye te gatha some crew. Foind those intristid an' bring 'em heah te me. We meet heah at tha ship." Turning to Nanaki he says, "Nanaki, keep Nerra's ship safe. Weah countin' on ye." He looks then to the Reverend. "Oi 'magine ye'll wanna look fer crew moah te yer likin'. Go ahead. But make sure they kin actully do somethin on boahd." He turns to their Dwarven companion. "Draim, Oi'd loik ye te go to tha bah an look fer some crewmen. Buy ye'self a drink er two if ye want." He then walks off, bringing William and Cadriana with him.

Nanaki looks puzzled at Nerra's offer, "What's sushi?" She looks to Draim, "Drink one for me, would ya? The stronger, the better. I wish I go with ya, but duty here." Then she returns to attentions back to Nerra. While Nerra responds, Nanaki takes her sword from the scabbard on her back and holds it, point down, in front of her, resting her hands on the pommel.

"That is what I will be seeking Captain, honest, hard working sailors." What does he think I'm going to go looking for alter boys and paladins to crew the ship. I might know nothing about sailing myself, but that just means I know we need skilled crew to replace those of us on board who know nothing about handleing a ship at sea. "If you like Captain, I will bring the canidates I find to you to interview to make sure they are knowelgeable."
With that said I will head to the docks, first, to find some sailors to employee, failing there I will check the nearby tavern as those who are unemployed often turn to the one comfort that is universally sought by all men. Booze.

At the Sushi Market:
Nerra, with a curious Shandar in tow, head to the sushi market. There they find dozens of people, mostly shop owners and servants, waiting in line to get to the sea food counters. There is also a lobster/ crab dealer. There are five booths in all. Each line is about fifteen to twenty people long. You look at Shandar and mention about just having to wait. The girl nods once and begins to sniff. She looks in the direction of the food. Her stomach growls at this point. You, too, are hungry. After a few moments, a odd-looking fellow strolls trough the crowd carrying a basket of crabs. He's barely over five-feet tall with blueish skin and hair the color of seawater. His ears are angular and slightly pointy. His eyes are gold. He smiles a toothy grin as he passes and walks over to one of the dealers. The man, a balding man with wrinkly brown skin, narrows his eyes and yells, What chu grinn'n at, Nixie? You're late agoin! That's three copper from yer pay! Now get those bedamned crobs ern the pot! It becomes clear this man treats his employees poorly, and pays worse. The line gets held up at some point and you find yourself waiting for what seems like minutes. You look to Shandar to see how the girl is behaving, but she's not there. You look about and don't see her. You know no one came close enough to you that they could snatch her without seeing. You look back to the front of the line- still eight more people to be served. As you're ready to leave your spot in line to look for the girl, you feel a tug on your cloak. You turn around to see Shandar holding up a bowl of sushi toward you. She has a second bowl, one half eaten, in her other gloved hand. This sushi? On the docks: Sure. Oi be a honest feller what 'n all! Oi sailed the Soi Tiger and Lucky Lucy. Oi been to Port Steam, to. The man is Carlton Weatherby, a man of Javesta decent and of questionable appearance. He has beady eyes, arms full of tattoos, a fish hook through his nose, and is missing his front teeth- making his beefy frame look more like a walrus. He seems pleasant enough and he's the first person to respond kindly to your advertising. Carlton Weatherby: ethnicity: Javesta (human). Age: 42 Hieght: 6'1" Weight: 290 lbs. Interviewer: Jason Weatherby: Oi be honest, goid Sir. Boin soiling me entire loif. Wouldn't hurt a dolphin, I would. Very reloible. Strong, too. An oi knows me sea, I does. Sailed to Port Steam an Port Prince a'for. Oi join up wid use an yer froinds fer 12 goid a w'oik. Jason eventually finds a second individual to ask, not sure about how he feels about the first applicant. This fellow is not exactly what Jason had in mind for sailing a ship but , after hours of being laughed at and ignored, he figured there was nothing to lose in interviewing the small monkey-like being that had begun to follow him about. Dominik Raka Naku: ethnicity: Bhukaki (small lemur-like humanoid: see races of thread) Age: 17 , height 4'. Weight: 47 lbs. Interviewer: Jason Dominik: Raka kushi nar beeku! I ...know boat well. I sail on Pegasees. Been here two moons. No like. Wanna go sea. Can lookout. Sharp seeings! (points to his eyes) Sharp hearings (points to his ears). Can climb mast and fixes. Moneys. Foods. Work for eats. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thamuz checks the docks: As one not at fussy as the inquisitor, you find more than a few willing hands. But there are only a couple that strike you as sea worthy. Interviewer: Thamuz Jun Chul: ethnicity: Eikeshi. Age: 26. hirght: 5'2". Weight: 98 lbs. The small dark haired man with a determined look in his face nods to you and says, Can hold my own on a boat, Sir. I may only be a fisherman, but I also know to fight. Jun is a small man, but the muscle in his arms and abdomen say he either works out or is a hard worker. He seems honest. The only knock on him is he's a fisherman and doesn't seem very outgoing. He seems very serious and suspicious. He's done a lot of local boating, but not any long trips. Seeks food, shelter, and what's deemed a fair wage. Giovanni: ethnicity: Javesta. Age: 15 height: 5'6". Weight: 105 lbs. Sir! I'd like to go with, Sir! I don't know much 'bout boats or sailing, but I can learn. Giovanni is a street urchin. He is a skinny dark-skinned boy with a tangled mop of hair. He has no experience and you figure wouldn't be much use in a battle. He might have long-term potential, but would need quick training. He's not as bright as William by any margin. He might be another liability. He seeks adventure, a way away from his current life, and mentions treasure a lot. He'd work for food, adventure, and the hope of seeing beautiful princesses. Jandon Royals: ethnicity: Komarian. Age: 31 height: 6'6" weight: 185 lb. Jandon is a former servant of a merchant that found a pirate's blade in his chest. Jandon doesn't seem very educated, but he is by no means dumb. He also is very polite. He doesn't seem like much of a fighter, but he has helped out with sailing. He says he worked aboard a merchant ship for four years. He's now very skinny and desperate for work. He asks that you over-look his disability and that he'll be a good worker. Jandon is missing his left hand. That can be a costly negative, but you've known of one-handed sailors before that got by. He says he'll work for his keep and hopes to be offered some pay, as he'd like to save up to get a place of his own someday. After your first day of recruiting, it's apparent that finding honest or qualified people in Niias is very tough. You're ready to head back to the schooner, and the others, when you spot someone familiar. The gray-furred cat-like being doesn't see you as he walks past. It's not that he's a Ka'shan nor gray that you get a feeling you know him, but that he's missing half his tail. He's nearly out of sight when you realize where you've seen him. A name comes to mind almost immediatly... Sharkbait. Back by the schooner: Draim and Nanaki watch the boat. The dwarf, a pint of ale in hand, well past bored, is the first to see Nerra and Shandar return, when they do. Jason Hale will be next. Thamuz (possibly with Alias) will return last, as he may have another interview to make. (You may freely discuss the outcome of your searches, or whatnot) |

Jun Chul: "Fishamin, eh? Well, if yer worth yer salt, ye kin meet me at tha docks. Yu'll be paid what yer worth."
Giovanni: "Tell ye whut, kid. If ye kin steal 10 pistol shots, a bot'ul ov ale, an' two rape-yers, ye kin meet me at tha docks." Jandon Royals: "Oi dunno 'ow good ov a saila ye ah, but if ye kin take ohdahs, Ahl take ye on. 'Ow much did yer fohma boss pay ye?" "Sharkbait": Thamuz follows the familiar looking figure, observing him, trying to recall where he might be known from.

Sure Captin, what kin of pay ya off'ring? Draim asks so he knows what the upper limit is.
Draim heads to the nearest tavern, one with at least a good reputation for civility, and begins to ask around for those looking for work.
