Traits Discussion
I am considering a few options: 1. Everyone gets one free trait of their choice, then any extra traits require a drawback. 2. Everyone gets one free trait of their choice, then the DM creates a brand-spanking-new trait for you according to your backstory or where you grew up. 3. Both 1 and 2? Let me know what you think, or if you have another idea of how you'd like the traits to be done. Last edited by Tiax; Sep 2nd, 2014 at 06:29 PM. |

I think I like the idea of 3, but let me get this straight. So the third option is one free, one chosen, and any extra requires a drawback. Yes?
I like the idea of the GM choosing one of the Traits. While the player has a good idea of what traits would suit his/her character, an outside perspective can reveal other options. I also like the drawbacks as well. Creates a bit of personality in a character rather then "I'm Mister Perfect." My vote is for 3.

Exactly, one you choose, one I choose, then any more require drawbacks.
I want the game to focus more on the 'character' of your character than the numbers. The numbers are certainly important, and will definitely help you survive, but your choices should dictate your path, not your +3 to hit. |

I like that option too. It feels a little more personalized. I always hate trying to get my character into the "boxes" of the given traits.

Works for me, I'm always curious what other people would assign my characters

@Solid -- either place. It looks like this is going to be the preferred method, so I'll likely close the thread once everyone looks at it.

I like option three as well.

Option 3 seems to be the most interesting to me. Though to be honest, unless the trait is a constant bonus, like Reactionary, I always forget about them. ._.

That also depends on if your game is running constant fights. If you're always rolling Diplomacy checks, a trait focused on that would be more beneficial, too.
