Panthas is... largely prejudiced (we went to college together). Most places have high speed Internet or at least 4G Internet on their phones, and almost everyone uses Facebook; a general fact of life. The reason we're using the South in particular is the high religious consciousness in the South, and how it mixes in with death practices and the fact that the U.S. neutered its death practices, be it grieving or just old school stuff like mass, a century ago. One of the theories we're putting forward is that shrines, like road-side shrines or Facebook shrines, are an emergent tradition that help in the grief process, though whether they're actually helpful is another question entirely. The religious nature of death and the understanding thereof seems to be a good way to frame it, and so we're using that as a whole. Planning on posting today, or at least writing my post tonight and posting it in the morn.

*rails against the country folk* The area I grew up in I guess could be called high speed internet, but it did take awhile to load pages. Still does for people in my parent's area. As for Facebook, quite a few do yes, but that's about it really for internet.
Besides, you are the one that said they were allergic. Around the river valley its more lack of options and pricing. Last edited by Panthas; Jul 14th, 2017 at 06:23 PM. |

Yeah, but you grew up ten years ago, Panthas
![]() Speaking of, I had 4G at my wife's grandmother but she didn't have Internet. Not because she couldn't, but because she has ridiculous notions about data usage and being charged and whatnot, because she's basically a conspiracy theorist with no concept of money. So, I wrote this post on Saturday and am posting it now. Meant to last night but I was exhausted. Huzzah!

Hey, for my 2c, I'm from South Korea, the land of Fiber in cities, and live in the Bay Area aka the land of broken promises of Fiber, but still decent internet outside of Palo Alto. Lack of accessibility sucks and the lack of incentive to make things more accessible therefore giving into the lack of proper information (or spreading of disinformation, if you will) affects the whole of the US since, ya know, politics.
Also both my parents are CS majors so I was the kid that learned punchcard coding at the age of 3 and Java and C++ by 5 so the lack of technology and proper internet access is a foreign concept to me.

So am I the only one that thinks maybe someone should stay outside with the mounts, what with being in the den of blaggards and ne'er do wells?
