Hello everyone. I am currently stuck at work so I will post a better intro when I get off. I will be playing Liliane 'Lily' Greenwell, half elf slayer. This is only the second pathfinder game I have played so bear with me as I switch between PF and 5e.

Hello everyone!
I'm thrilled to be here with ya'll ![]() I'll be the mind behind Elaenia Carren, your local budding sorceress (with a touch of the Fey about her). some initial brain-stew: @silverfeathers: Any ideas for backstory between Lily and El? Similar age locals, and both oddities, in a way. Also, happy to lend a thought about PF... @dalarangreen: Any ideas for rapport between our 2? Small community, Ulfar would have likely known of the other kids through Derdric... @ricktur63: Darshee and El might have some sort of bond... they haunt the same woods, and she would likely see El as a bit of a kid, given the age gap... @ArcaneJazz: Young human eccentrics of similar age... they must know [of] each other! El might be a source for reagents/alchy-things? Any special considerations for building my animal companion? Last edited by Caecielien; Oct 16th, 2019 at 06:28 PM. |

Thank you for accepting me! It's been too long! I've been battling depression lately, but this is a game I will def. wanna keep up on
![]() TBH, CaseyAlien... Cae-Cie-Lynnhurst... CC? ... CC. TBH, CC, seeing an eccentric fey sorceress would cause Cola to immediately begin flirting with her, lmao. He is meant to be very smooth and charming but is fairly emotionally distant, so Elaenia can handle that however Only in an RPG would such grammar flyyou want ![]() Cola owns a small candy shop that becomes a local phenomenon. Most people wouldn't know he's an Alchemist, but any of you who might be closer to him would know he is laying low from some people who are probably still looking for him, and it might be revealed to these friends that he has some dangerous talents (bombs? you want 'em?). Also, your animal companion should be a kitty. Because I like kitties.

@AJ - Casual tension - acting the trope of pursuit/denial? Failed romance - awkward ex-s caught up in adventure? Just friends - who doesn't like some candy... (and maybe the odd mushroom)?
El is very Ok with flirting, but probably wouldn't give it up w/o some spiritual-connection-level-rapport. ...I hope you're ok with wolves, too *whistles* Last edited by Caecielien; Oct 16th, 2019 at 08:18 PM. |

This got spicy quick.
Silverfeathers, don't stress too hard about Pathfinder. It might have eons of expansions and content, but functions quite well with core content. I know 5e and have played a few games. As with most play by post, the 5e theater of the mind concept is strong in any edition. We'll get you through any sticky spots. Starting at level one helps, too. Caecielien, your sheet isn't public. As for animal companions, you'll be in town and in the woods, so a wolf should be fine (especially since everyone would already know it's not going to eat them. We'll, the locals anyway.)

@Evereyone: I am excited to be joining all of you! There are some familiar faces and some new faces. Let's have a great and long journey together!
@Silverfeathers: Good to see you here! I've played a lot of pathfinder and I am happy to answer any questions as well, if you have them. ![]() @Caecielien: I was expecting Ulfar to be connected through Derdric as well. Ulfar has been doing his best to be a parent, but as a single father who spends most of his day doing hard labor, it is likely that Derdric hangs out with the other orphans frequently. Let's use that as the thread! Do you think that Elaenia would somewhat of a mother figure to Derdric, even though he is a dwarf? |

dalarangreen, El wouldn't discriminate based on dwarfness, but I kinda feel they are too close to the same age (Derdric being slightly older, even) for a "mother" slant. Sister-figure or friend, maybe?
And welcome, let the epic journey begin! |

Thank you so much to everyone for the offers of assistance with Pathfinder. I greatly appreciate it. I need to go back and re-read everyone's character profiles but I am intrigued by all of the variety produced in this small town.
I will let you all know I work as a Veterinary Nurse so I have little access (or time) to write a post during the daytime hours. I do most of my posting in the evenings but with my job some days run longer than others due to emergencies. I might not be able to post an immediate response to things but I do try to at least read everyone's posts if I get enough time on my lunch breaks. @Dalarangreen: It is good to see a familiar name here as well.

I am a detective with a fairly large Sheriff's Office, so I tend to post during the day when I get breaks between cases, and in the evening when off work.

You were a sheriff and then got a degree and then moved up, or? Curious as I've considered engaging in your field... I'm a student now. They refused to put badass on my business card, so I have to hand write it on the back.
While the profession is well regulated by the Constitution, the courts, and state level commissions on professional standards and training, the career paths in law enforcement are usually agency specific on the particulars. In the same way small businesses have fewer strict requirements and rigid processes for promotion than a larger corporation with thousands of employees, so to do small town agencies and rural Sheriff's Offices generally have a more informal rank progression than massive metropolitan areas. The trend at all levels, however, is towards education requirements for advanced positions. Some agencies are even requiring criminal justice related degrees as preference or requirement for hire to entry level police officer / deputy sheriff positions. Almost everyone expects a degree or "equivilent experience" for staff positions such as lieutenant. Most cities won't hire a police chief without a bachelors or masters in something related to management or public administration. Regardless of educational requirements, if you want to conduct detective level police investigations, you're going to start as a patrolman (or in a Sheriff's Office you generally start in the county jail as a detention officer.) Then you work your way up and apply for it. In some agencies Detective is a lateral promotion and isn't a rank, but a position. In my agency, all detectives are the rank of corporal, which is the first rung supervisory level. Some of our detectives were patrol supervisors who moved over, and vice versa as we have detectives move back out to patrol. Larger agencies also have crime scene technicians and they may or may not be investigators, some of them are actually forensic specialists who do evidence collection and scene processing but don't do case work. Our evidence technician who runs our evidence room doubles as our CSI if we need one on bigger cases. There are also crime analysts and forensics scientists who work in the labs doing ballistics, DNA, evidence processing, etc. Crime scene investigators, analysts, and forensic techs are rarely law enforcement, generally have bachelor's and above in their scientific specialty, and work for large crime labs and agencies in metro areas or at the state level. Then there are forensic pathologists, odontologists, psychologists, etc. Which are all doctorate level professionals certified and governed by the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. I don't know any of them which are employed by a police agency, even if they were prior LEO. They are hired when a case needs them, and generally have a private practice career of some sort in their profession. Some agencies also have informal, to semi-formal, to policy directed hierarchies within investigations, such as starting out in property crimes or vice and working up to major crimes such as rapes and murders. We are not large enough for a "homicide" division, with the exception of our narcotics team we're all general assignment investigators, but we start to develop our own specialities. I'm the most computer literate of my division, so I'm getting more of the cyber crime, dark web, and digital theft casework. I'm also one of the small handful who is on the call-list for unattended deaths, so I work more corpse related investigations (most of them natural deaths.) So my career path was do a tour in the army > join the SO > promote out of the jail to patrol > promote to detective. I picked up a degree somewhere in there while working, a lot of it while in the Army. Military experience and education help, but I only have an associates and I out competed many folk who have a Bachelors for my current job, so good case work while a patrolman is more important than anything in my experience.

Consider getting a stamp for that, signing it so often must get tiring
![]() Do you find the experience bonds or insulates you from your community? Pros/cons? Blew my mind when I realized I can edit via the [nsheet] popup! Any word from ricktur63 yet? |

My character sheet is about 90% done.
Couple questions: are there languages that would be more suitable to this context rather than others? Also, my character is not likely to be wearing armor or carrying weapons during the festival because... well it's a festival and he's retired. Are we diving straight into danger? @caecielien: Sister~ish sounds reasonable, lol! I forgot that your character is fey-touched, but still actually human. Dwarves have weird lives. |
