I'm going to be getting smacked by a research paper for the next couple days (climate change is real, BTW).

Don't wait on me to open chapter 1. My intention with final chapter 0 post (if it helps anyone who posts before me) is: a) Encourage Lily not to despair about parents, b) "OMG, Starchild here!?!?" +back to work +convince Lily to stay and "free show, wink wink, nudge nudge - is El's angle, even if Lily is more somber about responsibilitymake sure no one gets out of hand," c) at least casually greet Darshee, perhaps even deliver her stew.

Yes and we use to call it weather. If you do a bit of research on the subject... our orbital procession causes variances in the solar activity of our sun which in fact causes changes to our climate here on this small blue lifeboat we call earth. I'm not saying we humans don't have some affect but to what degree I would argue is less than most would think. If someone were to blame it all on us, I think is a bit over stated.

As a side note, Darshee may be sloshed by the time the stew arrives.

I think for me, I just wish that government regulators / civic engineers were doing more to help support effective long-term planning for the kinds of weather variances our next generation is going to face. What concerns me the most is that, irrespective of cause, most scientific analyses show evidence of very real shifts in local climates around the world. My personal sense is that these changes are going to have important economic consequences for food / water supply chains that are not being adequately addressed.

@everyone: I have mixed feelings about the OOC meandering towards political commentary. I know a lot of folks on this site like the fact that RPGx provides a safe space to escape the many problems of the world. On the other hand, I think it is important for people from different parts of the world to have honest and respectful conversations about the world. But in either case, before we digress too far along such a route, I think it is important to check in to make sure that: a.) it's approved by Draco, b.) everyone in our group is comfortable with such conversations, and c.) we have some agreements about how we want to engage in this type of commentary.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go there, as it were. For myself, I'm willing/happy to have almost any sort of civil discourse, but it also is not my intention to test comfort zones uncomfortably or have this be anything other than a wholesome and stress-free environment. Well I certainly wasn't trying to start anything with my opinions. It is not just mine though, try reading Dr. Judith Curry and there are others as well.

When it comes right down to it though it's really just that, someones opinion. They may have some science or other facts that they think corroborates their premise but in the end it is just an opinion.

I suppose it's a political statement to say the discussion over climate change is a scientific topic and shouldn't be politicized. Dalaran is right though, it's divisive even if it shouldn't be, and probably a better IM or real-time conversation and not an OOC one here.

I want to say this much and I'll be done on the subject.

I'm the type of person who can have a different opinion and not be offended by yours. We are all allowed to think differently. It's what makes this world interesting and so precious. Wouldn't things be boring if we all agreed on everything? I'm 56 years old. I think I have earned a right to speak my mind freely. I don't begrudge anyone speaking theirs either. Also I wasn't offended and I wasn't trying to offend anyone period. I'm here on these boards to have fun and cast a few spells with my characters.

I hope we can all have a blast with Draco as our pilot for this adventure.

If El is the waitress... How formal/aloof do you picture Darshee-El relationship to be? ie: "Darshee" or "Ms. Wynren" , enough rapport to small talk about orphans/baskets or removed enough for just "here's your stew, miss"

To be transparent, I also took zero offense about any of the comments above and I generally appreciate frank and open conversation. I don't think that anything that was said thus far was political in nature either. I just recognize that some conversations, particularly these days, often degrade into such territory and I have mixed feelings about that.

In general, I tend to be the type of person in a meeting / group who wants to create an opportunity for the quieter people at the table to speak their minds. Sometimes that means that I am more of a mother hen than I ought to be.

I appreciate you all taking the time to share your thoughts and feelings about the matters!

On a separate off-topic note, have any of you heard of "generationology"? It's one of those personality-type classifying schemes like Myers-Briggs or Pottermore Quizzes except it categorizes people based on their generation. I bring it up because I am a millennial and I feel like the traits described about millennial communication styles are reflected in my recent OOC posts...

p.s. @ricktur: I also am really looking forward to seeing how Darshee's opinion of the Brigade and Ulfar's opinion clash. Does Darshee feel that Ulfar is representative of the Brigade's mismanagement or is her opinion about the Brigade's incompetence mostly directed at Radmier?

I take no offense of the discussion brought up earlier. I feel as long as OOC chat unrelated to the game does not take over the OOC thread I am fine with having some of it, but if does start to dominate and pulls away from the game or begins to interfere then I will have some problem with.

Like many of us have already stated we are all here to have fun, and as long as we all agree that we have different views, opinions and experiences then we should be fine.
