I can probably get very basic locks but without it being a class skill, it'd be too difficult to keep up. Added some armor because I forgot I won't have arcane spells til next level. Description changed too, thanks! Last edited by smeowlin; Jun 2nd, 2020 at 07:13 AM. |

Might want to change the description, too, since it mentions the old weapon still.

How much would a children's book cost? I've mentioned A is for Ankheg which could teach her some of the basics of reading if someone helped, but she doesn't actually have a copy.

We could put the twilight enchantment on some armor eventually smeowlin, so that Arandiel keeps the higher armor class.

Dieuoffire has the final say on this obviously, but looking at the price of paper (4 silver per sheet), the cost of a bookbinding (I'm using a map case as reference here, 1 gold), and the time of whoever made the book, I'd say you're looking at somewhere around 5 gold Ermine.

I mean, I've seen books at 25g before, which I'd be willing to pay (not much use for money anyway).
For reference, B is for Behir, but I don't know of a Magical Beast starting with C. Edit: Chimera. Edit2: I'm fine with it actually being a big picture book with multiple creatures per letter (but still a kid's book and presented in rhyme). Maybe a second on armor and weapons, with just a few pictures in it, from Herzog. Edit3: Also, updated my application a little. https://www.rpgcrossing.com/showthre...57#post8779757 Last edited by Ermine; Jun 2nd, 2020 at 09:44 AM. |

Well, it depends on if mass printing is in the setting or if all books are scribed by hand still. If the latter, then a child's book would probably only be made for a noble's first born and very expensive. Remember, previous to mass printing, most people couldn't even read.

Would be fitting why her father had it then, as a thief or as a rich adventurer with 8 kids, and would be able to pass it down. I mean, she also can't read, so...
But either way, I don't have many other uses for money beyond food, drink, and shelter. But I mean, a blank spellbook is 15g (which has 100 pages of parchment, and is likely of high quality), so 25g seems on the low end of fair. Plus that's probably quite a bit of money for the average person. Last edited by Ermine; Jun 2nd, 2020 at 11:19 AM. |

The book could vary in price but 5 gp would be pretty reasonable.
@ermine: there are a few magical items that help with food, adrin and shelter. The MIC has a few things that basically can let you survive anywhere. |

Ring of Sustenance comes to mind immediately. There's also a weeping flask, which never runs out of water (the water is oily, if I remember right, so it doesn't taste very good). There's also a ration that never runs out of food, I think it was called an everlasting ration, but I can't say for sure.
Last thing I remember is Heward's bedroll, or something like that, which allows you 8 hours of sleep for only 2 hours of real time. Really can't remember the name of it exactly, though.

Ring of Sustenance is my number 2 favorite magic item, right behind Rod of Rope.

Don't know why I forgot RoS existed. Going to take that instead of feather falling since it makes sense. She'll just have food as a backup. Or just in case she feels like eating.
Edit: Why did I also not remember that RoS lets you get 8 hours of sleep in 2 hours? Like...this ring does everything important. Last edited by Ermine; Jun 2nd, 2020 at 12:13 PM. |

Ring of Sustenance is pretty schwifty, although that week-long attunement thing will kind of bite you. Also, getting other items to do the work of Ring of Sustenance can be cheaper (if I remember correctly), plus not take up one of your valuable fingers that could be wearing a different ring!
That weeping flask is on page 135 of Complete Mage. I'll update this post as I locate the other ones I've mentioned. Everlasting Ration - Heroes of Battle, page 131. The everlasting ration and weeping flask together are only 400 gold, and don't take up a ring spot. I'd say that's a great deal, even if you do have to still sleep 8 hours.

I'm fine with RoS. I can emulate most other ring effects with soulmelds.
Current soulmelds and their full effects with essentia investment: -Sphinx Claws (totem bind, 2 essentia): +3 to strength checks and strength based skill checks, 2 claw attacks for 1d8 damage each, +2 to attack and damage rolls with the claws -Ankheg Breastplate (1 essentia): +3 armor bonus -Blink Shirt (0 essentia): 10 foot dimension door -Crystal Helm (1 essentia): +1 deflection bonus to armor, +2 to will saves vs charm and compulsion -Bluesteel Bracers (0 essentia): +2 initiative Thinking I might change blink shirt and bluesteel bracers, but for now that's where they'll stay. Can change them every day anyway, so nbd. Last edited by Ermine; Jun 2nd, 2020 at 01:22 PM. |
