Trunau (Valiant team start)

Trunau is a small, human farming community located just south of the old Hordeline in the Hold of Belkzen. When the orcs breached this border in the 46th century AR, the citizens of the town refused to abandon their land. They built wooden palisades and ramparts and defended the walls of their town with great ferocity. The orcish invaders eventually gave up besieging the town, naming it "Manhome", and simply started circumventing it.

Every able-bodied citizen of Trunau is now tasked with defending the town at a moment's notice and is grimly aware that his or her home is the lone human outpost in a savage land. Children on their twelfth birthday are presented with a hopeknife and shows precisely which arteries to cut should they or their families be taken alive by the orcish hordes

Alignment: LG

Population: 980

Ruler: Lord Reyndan III (reportedly a distant cousin to Watcher Lord Ulthun II, ruler of Lastwall)

Government: The town of Trunau, while largely on its own, does receive frequent aid for the larger towns and cities of Lastwall. Seen as a bastion of humanity in a dark land, Trunau is a symbol that is in the best interest of the rulership of Lastwall to protect. Lord Reyndan III oversees the everyday affairs and any larger military mobilizations, while the Guardcaptain oversees the everday security of the town. A council of the wealthy and influential serve as a sort of informal cabinet that attends to the minutia of ruling the town.

Notables:
Vorich Dansable (Pal4) - Knight of Iomedae
Fioki A'Nul (Dr8) - Enigmatic dweller in the rocky crags to the west of town
Father Ridbrow (Pr5) - Maintains the temple of Pharasma
Father Kincurry (Pr7) - Maintains the temple of Iomedae
Father Mannowburn (Pr9) - The Battlemaster; maintains the temple of Gorum
Zakarin Dansable (Ftr9) - Captain of the town guard, brother to Vorich
Barabus Coerlitan (pronounced curl-i-tan) (Mo5) - Instructor, drillmaster for the guard
Rayne Corrobus (Wiz4) - Overseer of the small library/academy/shop called "Canim Sorcere"
Devin Skarret (Rgr5) - Owner of "Windhunters", a group of freelance bounty hunters sometimes employed by the ruling hierarchy

Freedom Town (Despicable Team Start)

Freedom Town is a predominantly human settlement located on the border of the Hold of Belkzen and Lastwall. It sits in fertile farmland due east of the capital of Urgir, north of the Flood Road. It was founded by criminal organization known as the Sharpes Gang in the last decade of the 47th century AR, as they fled north to escape justice in Lastwall. They found rich, tillable land which had been abandoned long ago to the orcs of Belkzen, and decided to set up a base there. Over the past two decades, Freedom Town has grown into a small community of all those needing to evade the law and willing to make a hard life among the dangers of the region. Tribute is regularly paid in food, gold, and persons to the local orcish tribes and the government in Vigil has so far turned a blind eye to the problem, figuring that the hordes of Belkzen will surely alleviate them of this problem soon.

Alignment:CN

Population: 580

Rulers: The Sharpes Council - technically, the council is made up of members of what has become known as the "Sharpes family", even though the actual Sharpes gang moved on some time ago. The name is now more of a title, reserved for the ruling family. Currently, Doem Rapka of the Rapka family is acting "Sharpes Father."

Notables:
Reynault Golverace (Ftr8) Leader of "The Polliun", a term once used as slang for law enforcers. Nowadays, the Polliun is little more than a band of thugs, working for their leader, the Sharpes Council
Szraetien Rapka (Wiz6) Member of the council and of the ruling family. Szraetien is a peculiar and recluse wizard whose plans are largely unknown. He is in control of the center of trade in Freedom Town, an enviable position which he would kill to protect.
Rib Zam (Ftr5) An odd orc, for certain...Rib Zam is his self-labeled name...no one knows his real name. Rib manages "The Sands", a gladiatorial pit
Gereal Rapka (Ari5) The spindly older cousin of Doem Rapka, Gereal is in charge of the tributes for the orc nations. He's a glorified accountant, though his ledger often keeps names and not numbers
Janos Gorule (Pr7) A priest of Norgorber, the god of thievery and assassination.
Father Baalin (Pr5) A priest of Pharasma, lady of the graves

The land around Belkzen:

Varisia - The massive land to the west of Belkzen, Varisia is a wild frontier region of unaffiliated city-states. Wild, largely untamed, and ever vigilant against the barbarians and giants to the north, Varisia is dangerous but steeped in rich culture.

Realm of the Mammoth Lords - North of Belkzen, this is an ancient land where prehistoric beasts still roam. It's a no-man's-land, ruled by tribes, and is sometimes raided by the orcs of Belkzen for animals to use as powerful mounts. It is rumored that an underworld with a false sun exists there, filled with savage dinosaurs and primitive societies of humans.

The Worldwound - Created a century ago, when the death of the god Aroden knocked the land out of metaphysical alignment and opened a rift to the abyss through which charged screaming souls and vicious demons. Currently, the land known as the Worldwound is a loose coalition of demonic masters who compel the allegiance of weaker demons. The Worldwound is ever growing as more and more demons are granted entrance into this world

Ustalav - Ustalav is a loose confederacy of counties that spent centuries under the brutal rule of the vile lich-king Tar-Baphon, known as the whispering tyrant. Restless undead still plague the land, as its proud people try to throw off a history of horror and pain. An important sect operates in the region - the Whispering Way - a group believing in true life beginning with undeath

Lastwall - The watchful border nation, Lastwall's former rulers were responsible for leading the Shining Crusade against the Whispering Tyrant Tar-Baphon, when the lich king oppressed the people of the north. Ruled by a military dictatorship under Watcher-Lord Ulthun II, the hardy people of Lastwall are ever-vigilant against attack from Belkzen, Worldwound, or a recurrence of the undead of Ustalav

Nirmathas - The war-torn wilderness to the south of Belkzen; their people are fiercely independent, generous, and kind. Freedom, self-sufficiency, and liberty are valued above all. Ruled by a Forest Marshal, this area holds the great Fangwood forest, which is currently assailed by a strange blight.
