You didn't go very far. It would only take Marcus a minute at most to run back to the front of the temple where the captain is waiting, presumably a minute to give him the short version, and a minute to bring him back. As long as you don't try any funny business, you'll have time to wait for him to get back, regardless of who you send to retrieve him.

Marcus is the one who keeps on talking with the guard captain and convincing him to wait around and give us more time, so I figured I'd have him go. And like darth says, it doesn't really matter who goes over and talks to him.

One of the second floor windows looks partially ajar, but it's not open enough to have anything climb in or out of it as is. The rest of the windows are not only shut, but locked.
