You're kinda on floor one and a half, really. The current floor is the first, but it's slightly elevated so that the floor is about 5 feet above the ground. Thus, the window is about an 8 feet drop.

FYI, the reference to beastmen earlier was really just a way of avoiding directly mentioning "Skaven", who are considered urban legends in most circles. He's just trying to direct everyone's thinking on the subject in some way that doesn't make him come across as a crazy person

A few things you may or may not have considered (consider this the tipping of the GM's hat)

1. As far as you know, noone saw you after you left the haunted manor. Thus, in theory, no one should have known about the cursed book until you revealed it before the late father.

2. The caravan which contained the original warpriest carrying the portrait had been attacked. While it may be possible it was nothing more than a simple attack of opportunity, there is also the chance it may be more.

3. Bela had apparently made a deal with the skaven rat-like beastmen. It's possible there might have been more considerations to the deal than you know.

4. The name of this chapter is called rats in the walls.

I'm not necessarily saying any of these mean anything, and it may be I'm giving you red herrings. But, at the very least, I want you to know of all the possible paths you can take, even the potentially false ones.

I was all for the skaven, given that the name of the chapter is rats in the wall, and that the main killing form right now is poisons!
