The Green Dragon Inn
![]() ![]() He used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: it's springs were at every doorstep and every path was it's tributary. "It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door," he used to say. "You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no telling where you might be swept off to." Frodo about his uncle Bilbo Baggins - The Fellowship of the Ring, Book I, Chapter III: Three is Company Hey guys, This is the "out of character" thread. Any questions or comments not pertaining to the actual storyline should be directed here. I'll have separate threads for other things like "game mechanics" and "characters". Ciao, John

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere break of day To seek the pale enchanted gold. The dwarves of yore made mightly spells, While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep, In hollow halls beneath the fells. For ancient king and elvish lord There many a gleaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught To hide in gems on hilt of sward. On silver necklaces they strung The flowering stars, on crowns they hung The dragon-fire, in twisted wire They meshed the light of moon and sun. Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeouns deep and caverns old We must away, ere break of day, To claim our long-forgotten gold. Goblets they carved there for themselves And harps of gold; where no man delves There lay they long, and many a song Was sung unheard by men or elves. The pines were roaring on the height, (The pines were roaring on the height) The winds were moaning in the night, The fire was red, it flaming spread; (The fire was red, it flaming spread) The trees like torches blazed with light. The bells were ringing in the dale (The bells were ringing in the dale) And men looked up with faces pale; The dragon's ire more fierce than fire (The dragon's ire more fierce than fire) Laid low their towers and houses frail. The mountain smoked beneath the moon; (The mountain smoked beneath the moon) The dwarves, they heard the tramp of doom. They fled their hall to dying fall (They fled their hall to dying fall) Beneath his feet, beneath the moon. Far over the misty mountains grim To dungeons deep and caverns dim We must away, ere break of day, To win our harps and gold from him!

Information
Hey guys,
Please do not post in the story thread until I leave a footnote saying it is ok to do so. I have the first part of chapter two to write and then we will begin. Once I'm finished with the introductory chapters it will go much faster. I just want to make sure they are well written and everyone enjoys the story. One of my dogs is sick and I need to take her to the vet today. I'll try to get chapter two finished tonight but this takes priority. Sorry for the inconvenience. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy Chapter One: A New Beginning. Ciao, John

Back to Work
Ok, guys,
I'm back to work on Chapter Two: A Secret Meeting. Hopefully I can have it done by tonight. My dog just has a temperature so nothing life-threatening. Whew!!! My wife would have been devastated. 10 days of antibiotics and 5 days of pain-killers and, hopefully, she'll be feeling much better. Sorry about the inconvenience. Ciao, John

Just read chapter one, and you have a very good storytelling style writing. Very nicely done sir, and two thumbs up! Now I'm getting goosebumps waiting to start!

I have to admit the first paragraph isn't mine. I read it in another adventure and just used it for effect. I have to give all the credit to Dragonsfoot for that one . . . but the rest is original.

Not going to lie, it kinda worries me how talkative all these guys are at work, yet they aren't very talkative here. Let's hope they just don't want to act like themselves online. But if they are reading posts, like this one, how about a one word comment for how you guys feel about this?

Alrighty then. We definitely need a few lessons in role-playing. Ok, guys. Let's take a look at the situation.
Your characters are standing in front of the woman who is not only the daughter of a Lord ( Elrond of Rivendale ), therefore a lady by birthright, but the woman whom has been the queen of the reunited kingdoms for the last 120 years ( and beloved by all ), and your queen for all of your lives. She's speaking and pleading to you in person for your chance to join a great quest, her personal quest: And all you can come up with is: 1. "I don't trust the little one." 2. "I hope the rest join in." 3. "I will join this quest." I guess it's true what they say, "CHIVALRY IS DEAD!" I was hoping at least one of you would step up and say something like this: [ Kalinandil bends down to one knee, proclaiming, "Your Majesty, my life and honor are yours as long as you deem them worthy!" ] But, you guys are posting as if you're talking to me at work. So, let's get in character, please!!! So, shall we start over with something a little more appropriate, please? Thank you! Ciao, John

Alright, I'll clarify my post. It's a bit blatantly obvious that Kalinandil and Lindale are going regardless of who else joins. All Kalinandil did was try to add something else to get them to say yes. Take that into consideration and my post fits perfectly.

OK everyone.
Take a look at Atalaya's post in the storyline. This is a good example of how I want the posts to look like. 1. 3rd-eye perspective. 2. Always take into consideration where you are and who ( the queen in this case ) or what is in front of you. If royalty, treat them as such. If an enemy, treat them as such, attacking or perhaps a more subtle choice. Take in the entire situation and have your character act appropriately. 3. Please post quotation marks and speech in bold. Color or none . . . your choice. Thank you. Ciao, John

OK everyone,
Take a look at Atalaya's post in the storyline. This is a good example of what I want the posts to look like. 1. 3rd-eye perspective. ( You're "controlling" your characters, not "play-acting" them. ) 2. Always remember where your character is and who (in this case the queen ), or what is in front of him or her. If royalty, treat them as such. If an enemy, treat them as such, perhaps immediately attacking, or a more subtle choice, depending on your character's situation. Just always remember to take the entire picture into consideration and have your character act appropriately. 3. Please post all quotation marks and speech in bold. Color or not, your choice. 4. Please post any "secret" thoughts or feelings ( a good example is Kevadirthor's mistrust of the little one ) in your private threads and I will read and take them into consideration as the story plays out. Thanks. Ciao, John
