Plot Summary

At the start of the game: Character has been kidnap It's the hook: It's to the player to describe how it was happeningsomehow and find themselves wrapped in a merchant boat cargo. The character wakes up as the boat is sinking, and must help each other to manage to get out of there.

During the game: they will discover that they have been the victim of some experience during their "pass-out" episode and got some additional power that reveals slowly but faster as they use them.

They should trust each other in this harsh land of corruption, without any clue where they are in there know maps. Trying to understand what is the prime goal of the evil that reunites them, they will have a dilemma: Free themselves or unleash the Power Within.

  • Allowed Sources: PHB, DMG, XGtE, and SCAG. (UA Ranger allowed, other UA content will be case-to-case, please PM me with a link to it.)
  • Attribute Scores: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8 in any order you wantStandard Array or 27 point-buy (i ask you don't make sheets until accepted but I can't stop you )
  • Alignments: Anything but evils
  • Gear: Class starting equipment ... No gold ( considering the style of the start of the game ... you did not start with any of your starting equipment neither gold or social link to any person on a city( that should bea long game time ) ... unless you return 'home' ... but for the stuff you select in characther creation... it can help you to have a better choice of available stuff if you fall on them 'after' the beginning

about me
I'm an old DM/player of D&D since 1990 I play all version of it. I organize many LARP 10 year ago.
I prioritize RP over rules. Meaning the rule must not break RP. My first language is French, English second language. I'm here to rise up the level of the second one. I'm starting a game cause I don't have any game start on a tabletop for a long time and my brain is gonna explode if I don't let the inspiration get out soon... It's up to you to take advantage of it


About the type of the gameThis game will not be like a "video game" where all room are aline and you must pass the first to be able to access the second then the third... This field is wide open. I just place some clue. Not at the start, but quickly become like that.
NPC and monster got a life too... they wanna live, same as you. Not all combat will finish with one side eradicate with sharing the treasure. It's not because you cross something or someone that means you are the same "-CR-creature strength" and able to confront them face to face... sometimes run can be the better option... it's to you to evaluate the situation and decide what you should do. It's your story ... I just write about 25% of it but it's your 75% that will make the story a good one or a GREAT one.

I will probably use the "SECRET" button to give information in the game that only your character can have ... it's to you to decide what will you do with it. Copy past or modify, or keep for you for a better time or never tell anybody... its "your" info.

Personality:
Eldric is, by nature, incredibly inquisitive and will often go out of his way to learn more about something simply because he does not already know. This has now been exacerbated by the fact that he can recall virtually nothing about his life prior to appearing on the ship. Although he can be stubborn at times, he has a kind heart and weakness for helping those that are downtrodden and or oppressed.

Appearance:
Although he could not tell you how he came by them, Eldric wears long gray robes that just touch the ground, the bottoms beginning to fray slightly. A leather satchel is slung over his shoulder, holding a large worn spell book, held shut by two large metal clasps. A simple staff and a knife at his belt are the only visible weapons he carries. His hair and beard, both long ago having turned gray, reach down to the top of his chest. When not active, he is usually seen with a long stemmed pipe in his mouth and a thoughtful expression on his face.

Backstory:
Eldric had spent a lifetime studying the magical arts. Despite the limitations of his race, that lifetime has already consisted of over three hundred years, having used his art to extend his life beyond its normal limitations. After reaching a point where there was little left undiscovered and only a handful of other wizards that could call him their peer, Eldric began looking beyond the Material Plane, unsure of what he was searching for, but excited at the prospect of the unknown.

For years he traveled the planes, even taking up residence in the City of Gates for a while. Slowly however, he felt his greatest adversary sneaking upon him once again: boredom. Returning home to his tower, the lone building rising from a small island in the middle of the ocean, he set out on a journey through the Astral Plane in search of the next chapter of his life.

RP Sample about the kidnapping :
Eldric had spent the last 20 years living on the Astral Plane, studying its nature. The silver cord that anchored him to the Material Plane and his physical body had long since become a normal sight, but something had drawn his attention back to the cord.

Impossible, he thought, realizing what he was sensing. Something had damaged his body. With a thought, his astral form sped back toward his body, light and images blurring by him in the span of a moment. With a gasp he reentered his body and his brain exploded in pain. He stood from the chair he had been sitting in and felt his head. His hair was wet and matted. Blood.

He reached for his staff that had been propped against the nearby desk, but it was no longer there. He noticed his material pouch had also been cut from his belt. His options were limited, but not exhausted. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed movement. With an arcane word and a gesture of his hand, he stopped the flow of time for all but himself. Or should have. Impossibly, his attacker came further from out of the shadows from where he had been hiding, an odd looking dagger in his hand. Eldric could feel the immense magical aura surrounding the weapon.

He gestured with his hand and began to utter an arcane word of power that would instantly snuff the life from his assailant. But before he could finish, he felt something strike the back of his head and the world went dark.

Eldric woke to darkness. The sound of wood groaning and snapping were all he could hear, punctuated by the occasional shout. He tried to remember why he was there, but he could not. In fact, he could remember very little about his past. A problem for another time, he thought as he could now feel his body beginning to become wet. I am sinking.

Trait: I am quick to pay swift vengeance on those who would do unjust harm.
Ideal: Independence. I must prove that I can handle myself-- I won't always be a child.
Bond: I protect those who cannot protect themselves. If I cannot protect them, I will avenge them.
Flaw: I'm young and inexperienced, and it can lead to foolhardy decisions.

Personality: Kieran tries to take things seriously, but often he finds many things too funny to ignore-- even at inappropriate times. He is a motivated young one, trying to find his place in a very big world. He has big shoes to fill, too, as the heir to the Van Steck Estates. He wouldn't admit it, but he's afraid of not living up to the name and will often over-overcompensate for his insecurities. He can be brash and thoughtless at times, but is quick with an apology if the situation demands it. He can sometimes be a little too prideful.

Appearance: Kieran's shaggy, dark brown hair is a little long and due for a cut. His round brown eyes are both curious and serious, depending on the moment. He stands around five-feet tall and is strong for his age, looking no older than twelve or thirteen. He wears armor with the crest of his family. A sword is donned at his hip, also crested with the Van Steck emblem on the hilt.

Backstory: Kieran is heir of the Van Steck estates, as the eldest and only son of Duke Rique Van Steck. He is set to inherited the land and title of Duke after his father fell ill a few months ago.

RP Sample about the kidnapping: His father fell ill six months ago, and showed no signs of improvement. He worked harder than ever to prove his worth to take over his father's estates, his mother more worried about the health of her husband than anything else. Kieran didn't mind. He needed time to focus on studies and politics, the court awash in subterfuge. There were rumors, however, that spread from ear to ear about a plan-- a plan to move on the Van Steck family and remove the heir. They were just rumors, or so they thought. One night, when the guards were changing shifts, Kieran went missing. Blame against rival houses were thrown about, though no proof was found of their involvement.

Keelin the Lost Soul

Name: Keelin, daughter of Rowena and Bran

Backstory: Keelin is a young woman without direction, mostly because she'd had nothing expected of her for most of her life. The youngest of 5 siblings, she was never expected to take over the family business or bear lots of children. Her brothers and sisters did that long before she came of age. One of her brothers even joined the Priesthood of Helm, fulfilling any dream that her parents had of somebody in the family achieving something great. They were very relaxed, as parents go, and told Keelin that she could do anything she wanted. Lacking any real guidance, she drifted aimlessly through life. She had a few superficial relationships and acquaintances that could hardly be called good friends. And when she was 19, she married a man because she felt it was what was expected of her. She spent her days working with the militia to teach the local populous how to defend themselves. But neither her relationship nor work brought her any true sense of contentment or fulfillment. There had to be something else - something that she was missing. Without any goals, she felt that most everything she did was pointless. And so, when the opportunity arose to change her surroundings and hopefully her perspective, she boarded a ship and left.

Goal: to find purpose and happiness.

Traits:
  • Manners are important. I am always polite and respectful until somebody proves themselves unworthy of respect.
  • Curiosity: I want to experience as many things as possible. Maybe I'll find something I actually enjoy.
Ideal: There is a purpose for everyone, even if some people have trouble finding it.
Bond: My word is my bond. If I promise to do something, then I shall do my very best to realize that promise.
Flaw: Wanderlust. I am never satisfied.

Personality: Quiet type for the most part, not really trusting people after the experiences she had. Once she opens up, she could be very outgoing. You can tell she is more comfortable in the woods than she is in towns and she seems to pay more attention to animals than people.
Appearance: She is petite at 5 feet with a lithe body. She has long dark hair down to her mid back, hiding her ears, easily passing her off as a human with brown eyes and her skin tanned with a bit of copper hue. She obviously spent most of her time outdoors. She has a backpack, a sword at her hip and a dagger sheathed at her thigh. She wears a leather armor.

Very interested in this... Below is my character concept.

Malagar Cruunkul Application

Appearance: Tall and thick, even for his fellow dragonborn, Malager is an imposing presence. Covered in dark blue, scale-like hide, covered in scars from battle long ago won. His black horned crest also shows the wear of age and battle. But his fierce gold eyes blaze fiercely, betraying his still deadly strength.
Background: Soldier

Personality:
Malagar is quiet, thoughtful and reserved. Loyal to a fault, he enjoys the company of others, even if they may not realize it. He is getting old and has a tiredness about him, yet is still a fierce soldier and fighter.
Traits:
I’ve lost too many friends, and I’m slow to make new ones.
I can stare down a hell hound without flinching.
Ideal:
Responsibility. I do what I must and obey just authority. (Lawful)
Bond:
Someone saved my life on the battlefield. To this day, I will never leave a friend behind.
Flaw:
I have little respect for anyone who is not a proven warrior.

Backstory:
Malagar grew up with his clan Cruunkul in Tymanther. They were a rare clan of blue skinned dragonborn, which led to a more isolated life than is typical of other dragonborn. Coupled with the clan-leader Beljhan's attitude of superiority, he often felt shunned by the other clans while growing up. As he grew toward adulthood, he was soon the largest in his clan, and larger than all but a few dragonborns in any clan in Tymanther.

Beljhan quickly recruited Malager into the infantry, where he excelled. All of those years of isolation melted away. In the fog of war his blue skin mattered not, his size was an asset not a joke. He was home! For nearly four decades he hacked, slashed and slogged his way through much of Faerūn. He had been injured countless times and near death more than he cared to admit, yet he loved it more everyday.

But time, as it does, began to catch up with him. His older legs could not keep him at the front of the charge, occasionally a young recruit could knock him down in a sparring match... He knew his time as a soldier was coming to an end but continued to push on, not knowing what he would do next.

Until one day in a small skirmish outside Baldur's gate, he lost a step as he charged up a hill towards an orge. This misstep caused him to jog a bit left and into one of his best friends, Frobor. Before he could turn to offer a hand to Frobor, he saw a huge spear skewer him to ground...

The next day, after a quick defeat of the ogre, Malager was called to General Alibor's tent and summarilty discharged from his post, stripped of all rank and status. Of course! he thought, Frobor also happened to be the son of the general now feeling even more regret. Already distraught from the loss of his good friend, Malagar salutes one last time and leaves the tent, a civilian for the first time in what seems like a lifetime...

RP Sample
Malagar comes stumbling from the Elfsong Tavern in Baldur's Gate, the light of the morning sun seemed blinding in his blurry eyes. Tumbling down to the ground as he missed a step on his way to the street, he grabbed the stair rail and pulled himself up. Steadying himself for a minute, he dusted himself off, regaining some composure and his thoughts for a moment...

First things first. You can't go anywhere without some coin the dragonborn thought to himself. To the docks! There's almost always work to be had at the docks. He hoped to get enough work to pay for travel back to Tymanther, then only place he had called home, though he never really felt at home there.

The stench of the docks met him first; fish, trash, animal and human waste all mixed into a perfume that challenged even his dragonborn nose. The next sensation was the noise... Seagulls, barking dogs, barking vendors, clanging bells all combined to make background din that was nearly cathartic.

After a couple immediate rejections in his quest for short term work, he approached a strange, white haired gnome that appeared to be trying to stack a bale of hay nearly as tall as he was. "Looks like you could use some help?" Malagar said as he lifted the bale and the gnome with one giant blue hand.

"Yes, yes, yes. yes... Stupid orc helper drunk again. You strong, you help! Come, Come..." Malagar followed the gnome around the corner into an alley as he tried to ask about salary. Once into the alley, before even finishing his sentence, the dragonborn fighter saw a green flash from the hands and a wry smile across the face of the odd little gnome.

Then everything went black...

little Feedback so far:

@Silent Rain: Good twist to play an old character that must relearn life due to a scramble of the astral link !

@Odyssey : Kieran reminds me of Parn in LoddosWar

@girlplay : I like the way that Keelin doesn't know where to go in life and seek a sense in her life ( Alignment: I think that Lawful seem a little too "directional" in finding the perspective in her life ... maybe more Chaotic ( not having rigid thinking and feel free like the wind when wanting it ) or neutral ( let others choose and live with it until something better show up ) ... but it's up to you ... I'm not a freak with the rule of alignment ... It just to more understand the "code" of your charachter

@routzong : as long as this world will have some gentle guys like Malagar on reserve... the bad guy will Rock On ! ... the RPKidnap seem to fit the character personality

@WildJessi : for Drusilia Arryn WildShape ... I'll use the variant for the starting form ( ex : spider/horse/Panthera ) since we are 3 lvl ... i'll give you 2 additional form if chosen for the game ( and explain to you how to tame new form as this variant show if you don't find it )

I change something else ... since it will be difficult to lvl up the 3rd level in the first part of the story ... and since its a big step for many characters. It will be hard to legitimate the new ability and skill upgrade .... so the character will start at 3 lvl ( you can already choose wich specialization and put it in your application )

While she often disapproves of gratuitous violence or purposeless harm to innocents, Qiara understands that those kinds of sensibilities must ever take a back seat to the task in front of her.

Background - RP: For over 60 years, Qiarra has served the forest elves of southwest Faerun as an emissary to the city-state of Teryth. Her nominal position is Ambassadorial Aide, but her true role is enforcer, persuader, instigator, ameliorator… and assassin. One day she informed the titular ambassador, who was actually her aide, that she was leaving for an important face-to-face meeting with an unnamed contact of hers. She hasn’t been seen since.

Personality Traits: Jokester: I have a joke for every occasion, especially occasions where humor is inappropriate.
Flattery is my preferred trick for getting what I want.
Ideal: Friendship: Material goods come and go. Bonds of friendship last forever.
Bond: I betrayed the wrong person and must work to ensure that this individual never crosses paths with me or those I care about.
Flaw: I’m convinced of my own brilliance; no one could ever fool me the way I fool others.


Kidnapping
Accompanied by a young assistant acting as an unnecessary bodyguard, Qiarra strode into the warehouse with a practiced nonchalance, pointedly not looking for hidden threats, trusting that her advanced scouting team had done its job—that and the dagger hidden up her sleeve.

“Torrhem, how nice to see you again,” she purred with a smile. “I look forward to finalizing our deal, to the satisfaction of all.” She was meeting with Torrhem Spiegel, called Two-Fingers because that’s all he needed to pick your pocket clean. I’ve been leading this embassy longer than this child has been alive, she thought, and wondered not for the first time if it was their short lives that made humans so impatient and grasping. Torrhem led a band of thieves that called itself a Guild, and was hungrily snapping up territory in Teryth, which threatened to undo decades of careful work on the part of her and her team. She had worked for months to curtail their sloppy aggression, while hiding from Torrhem her real identity, going to the trouble of setting up an identity as head of a rival thieves’ guild. This meeting between each guild leader, unarmed and with only one guard each, was to be their last, after which she could get back to more important matters.

“Yes, Jelenna, I’m glad we could agree in principal, and look forward to ironing out the final details," said Torrhem. The final detail was the exact territories each “guild” would control. All Qiarra really cared about was keeping him and his sloppy cutpurses away from one small block near the Calimshan embassy, but she couldn't make it obvious where her real interests lay.

Taking a seat at a small table, opposite where Torrhem already sat, “Jelenna” motioned with her chin at the map spread before her. “All that remains is the final territory boundaries.” A quick glance showed that the areas marked on the map were not at all where their earlier meetings had established rough areas of control. “I see you’ve made a few changes since our last meeting,” she said, feeling exasperated at his tawdry attempt at renegotiation. I may have to remove him after all; too much is at stake, she thought.

Uh, yes, about that… I’ve had some second thoughts following our earlier discussions. I’m sure you’ll find this new arrangement satisfactory?

“Not at all. I thought we were past such petty things,” replied Qiarra icily. “I warn you, my patience runs exceedingly thin.”

“Do you think to cow me, elf?” Torrhem said in a low growl, standing and leaning over the table as if to threaten her.

Qiarra gave him a withering look. “Before we go any further, I should tell you that I did not quite follow our meeting arrangements,” she said, reaching her right hand up her sleeve. "I am not unarmed."

Torrhem gave a soft laugh. “Well, neither am I.”

Qiarra felt a giant arcane hand grip her from behind, pinning her arms to her sides. What? But we vetted him months ago. He has no magical abilities! Then, as she considered the implications... He's no more an ordinary thief than I am. What power, to fully hide from us the way he has. There was a sharp grunt, followed by the soft thud of a body hitting the ground behind her. Finally accepting that she was in real danger, she felt a sharp blow to the back of her head. Fool, was all the thought she had time for before the table rushed up to meet her.
