Just checking in! I believe all I have left to do is flesh out the NPCs real quick, and will have that done within the next 2 days/just ahead of the deadline for sure.

Would welcome any feed back you might have also, tweaks/guidance that might make my content sit more comfortably with your game intent, etc. PM or here on the threads if preferred (I'm a big boi! My safeword is pineapple, be gentle :P)!

A little bit of further feedback. Keep all the updates coming folks! You've got 4 days, the weekend, to complete your apps. Once I login Monday I'll close applications and we'll have the difficult choices I have.

Thank you everyone for the lovely work so far. Everyone's got some really stellar stuff that makes my mind turn at the possibilities!

My application is now complete!

Thanks for the insight/guidance with regard to Koga and the timeline for the Orc Wars. I had a blast exploring the characters as I wrote them out, and the potentially important NPCs, so regardless of who ends up making it into this awesome looking game... I thank you for the writing prompts we had to go through.

Applications closed! Thank you all so much, I appreciate all your hard work with this process, and I hope it was a fun time for anyone who tried. It's a bit strange, but hopefully it'll work!

I'll be notifying applicants in the coming days.

Thanks again!

Please refer to the first post regarding the requirements for application. I'm looking for 1-3 new players to join "survivors" of the funnel adventure I ran. I'd love to bolster the numbers, include more people in the fun, so let's see where we land. Old applicants are more than welcome to join in on the fun again with a new application (or rework an old one if you'd like).

Let's see what we get!

Character name: Rain Ragnius

Race: variant human

Class: undead warlock

Background: Noble

Personality: Rain is shy and unsure of himself due to the lack of encouragement he received from his mother and the severe bullying he endured at the hands of his peers, but he has a good heart and is well spoken and well educated. He always wants to do the right thing and be a good person, though he doesn’t always know how. He is terrified of the entity that dwells within him and what he is becoming.

Physical Description: Rain is a short young man with shoulder length straight golden hair. He looks even younger than he is and has often been described as looking like a lost puppy. He takes pride in his appearance, always wearing fine clothing that reflects his refined upbringing. When he transforms, he takes on the appearance of a ghostly undead king.

Backstory: Born into the noble Ragnius family as the son of the renowned wizard Marko Ragnuis, Rain’s father committed suicide the night he was born. This scandal damaged his mother’s reputation, but Lady Lucia was not some trophy wife. She was cold, intelligent, and vicious. The frequency of her rivals having their lives destroyed or disappearing entirely earned her the nickname, the villainess. Through her cunning navigation of the king’s court, she held on to her prestigious position. Unfortunately for Rain, she put no such effort into his upbringing.

Not once did she tell her son she loved him. Not once did she embrace him. She left her servants to raise him and showed little interest in his well-being. As a result, Rain grew up with deep insecurities and a lack of confidence which singled him out among the ruthless world of affluent children he was surrounded by, but none were worse than the children of the Rand family, Miguel, Liguel, and Castor. The three siblings always sought Rain out and brutally tormented him in ever escalating attacks for years on end. Then one day on Rain’s twentieth birthday, the siblings ambushed Rain and kidnapped him. Rain found himself tied down on a floor with a magic circle drawn beneath him. Miguel, Castor, and their father Escaldos were standing around him attempting to perform a demonic ritual. When Escaldos moved to stab a dagger through Rains’ heart, something happened.

Rain felt a cold chill run through him, and he spoke words that were not his with a voice that was not his. “You shall not harm my precious vessel.” His chains were broken, and he felt something compelling his body to move. He lashed out with green magical power, killing the three men. With the casters killed, the magic of the ritual went wild and destroyed the tower that Rain had been held in. he survived the incident though most of those present in the tower were killed.

The investigation that followed led to the destruction and imprisonment of most of the Rand family with one very unexpected exception. Lady Lucia petitioned the king to allow her to take Liguel Rand into her family. Not only that, but she proposed an arranged marriage between the only daughter of the Rand family and her own son, Rain.

She did this for two reasons. First, it would allow her to gain control of the Rand estate and fortune which was considerable, and second, Rain’s part in the events had made him the center of the court’s attention. There were many young maidens flirting with him, and his mother did not like this one bit. She saw these girls as vultures trying to worm their way into her family. By marrying her son to Liguel, a girl with no power, Lady Lucia would maintain control over her house and its future. There was just one problem, Rain wanted nothing to do with it.

For the first time in his life, Rain confronted his mother. He was incensed at her callous disregard for his feelings. He asked how she could do this to him, to not only take the woman who tormented him under her roof but to force him to spend the rest of his life with her, especially after her family had tried to kill him. His mother dismissed his outrage as childish which only angered him further. He demanded to know why his mother didn’t love him and, having an epiphany, asked her what she knew about what had happened to him. His mother revealed that Rain had been born still born. His father had been unable to accept it and took him into his study for several hours. During this time a massive storm formed out of nowhere. Then, she heard the sound of a baby crying from the room. When she looked inside, she found his father dead, having cut his wrists and drawn a magic circle on the floor in his blood, and there in the center of it was Rain, inexplicably alive.

Faced with the horrifying revelation about his own existence and unwilling to marry the woman who had tormented him most of his life, Rain did what many neglected youths do, he ran away from home. Now he wanders aimlessly, struggling just to survive while trying to uncover the nature of the being that inhabits him.

What you'd like to get from this game:

RPG Safety Tools: I'm fine with anything

NPCs

Friend: Mira Ross, a blond-haired tomboy who likes to fight, Mira is the twin sister of millet. Both of them were chased out of their village due to a superstition that twins are the offspring of the devil. They found a kindred spirit in Rain who accepts them without fear or judgment. Mira is very protective of rain and her younger sister.

Friend: Millet Ross, a blond-haired mage who is more lady like than her older sister Mira. Millet is sensitive and caring, often acting as emotional support to Rain.

Hostile: Liguel Rand, a black haired beauty who is the sole heir to the ruined Rand family. Liguel bullied Rain with her brothers and blames him for the deaths of her family. She is offended that she has to marry him, but even more so that he refused and ran off. She knows that her future depends on this marriage and will go to any lengths to make it happen.

It’s complicated
: Lucia Ragnuis, Rains mother and known as the villainess, Lady Lucia is cold calculating and vicious. She sees her son as a tool but does want whats best for him, or at least her idea of whats best for him.

This was a great funnel experience, and I can vouch for @Montage's dedication and investment to this game! Sadly I don't have the bandwidth for it anymore, but I do recommend this game, its DM and the current players!

Burny
left-aligned image

Character name: Fire Burns Brightly, AKA "Burny"

Race: rock gnome

Class: Necromancy Wizard

Background: Guild Wizard (custom)

Personality: Burny is normally cheerful, full of energy, a bit scatterbrained. She always wants to please everyone but doesn't always succeed. Her problem is that she obsesses over what she sees as her addiction to death. She loses focus when people are talking about anything else, her necromancy spells work better than her "normal" ones, she listens to the acoustic equivalent of My Chemical Romance, and worst of all, she has a tendency to tell people about her struggles with this obsession and why she is powerless to do anything about it. Sometimes, you just want to pick her up and shake her until she either accepts it or just snaps out of it.

Physical Description: Burny is short, a bit plump, with blotchy skin, and a face that seems a bit out of balance. Her nose is too big, her chin recedes, and she isn't the most coordinated person in the world either. On the other hand, she smiles a lot, is nice to everyone around her, and while her laugh is a bit screechy, she seems to genuinely like the people she is with.

Backstory: The daughter of two gnome wizards, Burny was trained early in magic. Her father hoped she would be a divination wizard like her mother or maybe an abjuration wizard like him. But, very early on, she seemed to fixate on necromancy. Invisible hands (mage hand and chill touch), reading every trashy vampire novel ever written, a few Wednesday Addams moments with her dolls, her bent for the magic of death and the undead colored her life. Her parents did everything they could to discourage it, from time outs to having her talk to the cities resident expert on personality and insight. But she just wanted to shrink head. Literally.

As a good daughter, she went on to Magical Academy and being naturally proficient and well trained, she graduate with honors. Then she took service with her parents' noble and settled into a straightforward, but boring, life among the living. It was an easy life and a good living, but the dead kept calling her back. She tried to go without necromancy, which is naturally frowned on among reputable mages, but always ended up sneaking over to the graveyard and casting just slightly inappropriate spells. Despite her best efforts, people noticed and people whispered, and the lord "suggested" she join this very prestigious company of heroes that had been doing amazing things. So, now Burny is in the army. A promotion! But she knows better.

What you'd like to get from this game: I'm just looking for fun with this character. I'd love to make friends, tell stories, and provide a little light entertainment for this adventure. Burny isn't going to be a character to brood, hog the spotlight, or betray her friends; she just wants to enjoy her life and find a few good corpses to keep around for company.

Party Role: In addition to being another spellcaster, Burny is a tinkerer, a fixer, and her skeletons provide bodies to soak damage and occupy opponents while her ghost(s) can provide scouting and some degree of battlefield control. When she gets 4th level spells, she will be able to provide a skeleton guard to each of the more vulnerable members of the party (including, of course, herself).

People in my life:

Mom and Dad: They are both still alive, both contract wizards (Mom is a divination wizard, Dad is a scribe), and both worried about me. I talk to them pretty regularly but it's not like we actually communicate. We just go through the ritual of saying the same things that we've been saying since I apprenticed to the college at 13 without actually telling each other anything.

Roget the Mortician. He caught me hanging around his workrooms but instead of going off into some kind of tantrum, he was right decent about it. We got to talking regularly; he's shown me how to make a corpse look real life-like and all. Roget may be old but he's surprisingly strong. I guess it's all the digging and stuff.

The statue of Jeannette Clarke. Jeannie, as I call her, is probably buried there. I'm not completely sure as the statue is older than I am. But I like to think so. Burny and Jeannie has a nice ring and Jeannie has a really kind face. When I get caught up in my troubles, she's the one I tell everything to. One nice thing about the dead; they aren't all judgy and everything. They listen real good.

Jaime. Jaime and I, we were a thing and it was good, well, until it wasn't. He helped find a life outside my parents and we shared our interests. He was my first; but things didn't stay good. He was too into his necromancy. I mean, it attracted me at first, but he didn't have proper limits. He talked about killing people to use their corpses and stuff. I mean, ugh, that's just wrong. And it didn't help that I seemed to have more of a natural gift for it than he did. He had to sweat and work and memorize everything; it all just seemed natural to me. I guess that was part of it too. But I miss the company and the having someone to share troubles with. We had a deal that if one of us died, the other would bring them back and take care of them. How many people could you say that about?

Application
right-aligned image
Name: Ootinee, known to most as "Slither" and to a few as "Lucky"
Race: Kobold
Class: Scout rogue 5
Alignment: Neutral good

Appearance: While most humanoids won't bother to look downward to see Slither, those who do can't help but note his densely muscled form and bright green, slitted eyes that scarce seem to blink. Add the uncanny stillness that only a lifelong hunter can possess, and the overall effect is more reminiscent of a crocodile than anything else. But no crocodile has emerald eyes, let alone a pair that gleam with an intelligence, cunning, and a flash of magic that can only come from a draconic lineage.

Personality: Slither is cool and unflappable under most circumstances, but crowds, particularly crowds of bigger creatures, make him uneasy. For that reason, and others, he prefers small towns to big cities, and the wilds above all. He can't help but be deeply loyal to whomever he sees as his pack, which is one of the reasons he prefers the more solitary life of the guide. It's easy to forget that "cool" doesn't mean apathetic - Slither has a predator's nature, and enjoys the thrill of fighting hand to hand after the hunt.

Backstory: Like most Kobolds, Slither endured a wretched early life, shoved to the margins. Unlike most Kobolds, Slither beat some of the odds, caught a break or two, and managed to claw out a better existence than most. Longer, for sure, and that's a start.

Born second to last in a clutch of fourteen, only one made it to their second birthday. There's the origin of the childhood nickname, "Lucky". The only one who made it. Sickness, hunger, neglect, and probably fratricide did for the rest. But Slither was strong and quick, and, best yet, had more of the look of a dragon than most Kobolds. That gives status, and was amplified by the young survivor's apparent good favor and the literal spark of magic that was sometimes apparent.

No Kobold is coddled, but the fates aligned to afford Slither options. The young one admired the hunters, the few who ranged outside the squalid town, the band within the band. The hunters were happy to welcome the dragon-blooded one called "Lucky", and the match was a good one indeed. Slither was at home in the grasslands surrounding their town, and developed into a capable hunter and fighter. But the horizon called to him early, and never let up. Slither found himself ranging farther and farther, spending days and then weeks on his own - hunting, exploring, and observing the world around him.

Some years passed, and those years brought Slither to Rach'Dinai. A misunderstanding about a stag brought Slither to the attention of Grand Duke Bedegar, and therewith into his army. But the Grand Duke was wise enough to allow the scout to pay off his debt, and at the right time offer the Kobold the chance to join a secret company...

My goals/aims: I hope to have a good time contributing to some new adventures with new people. I haven't really gotten the chance to play rogue much, and I'm interested in how this character develops.

Safety: Everything is fine at RPGx's PG-13 level

Friendly NPC 1Meraun Divolin: Meraun, a tall Half-Drow who is thin to the point of emaciation, is the captain of the scout company in which Slither served until recently. A former slave, Divolin is a pessimist who nurses grudges. However, he is both an effective administrator and a quietly selfless leader who puts his people in position to succeed without being much noticed.

Friendly NPC 2Meepo: Meepo is an elderly (at least 45 now!) Kobold from Slither's home settlement. At least, that's where he was, the last time Slither passed through there. Meepo's an odd one...not only is he old, he's had adventures. With humans. And an Elf, even. Meepo had a wooden shield, from those olden days, and a real crossbow that could kill you quick, if it still had its string. And an arrow.

Hostile NPCHamner Sitsk: It wasn't Slither's fault that Ozgur died, people die all the time in war. That didn't stop Ozgur's brother from blaming him, though. Meraun said that the man was grieving, Oz being his twin and all. That didn't make much sense to Slither, but he was well used to the many differences between his kind and others by now. Having to raise the bard's seven kids probably didn't endear Slither to the man, either, Slither figured. No matter how you sliced it, it was inconvenient having the man in his life, trying to make trouble.

Name: Grimash Coalborn
Race: Dragonborn - Red (Chromatic - Fizban's Treasury of Dragons)
Class: Artificer - Armorer
Background: Soldier
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Feat: Dual wielder

Personality: Grimash is a battle washed, proud Dragonborn harnessing all the stereo types associated with his kind. Grimash is a straight forward, no guff, spade calling, competitive Alpha type. He has a fun filled and crude sense of humor. He enjoys muddling around with magic, especially types he doesn’t understand. Grim is not above a good old fashioned tavern brawl, and falls victim to good smoke and almost any ale on too many occasion.

Description: Equal in size to many his kin, and average of stature. Grim is a large, red skinned, scaly Humanoid dragon who stands on a set of monstrously stout legs. A crooked set of horns crown his cap, bending backwards and away from his scalp. His left arm is entirely mechanical, forged of onyx ore and permanently attached to his person. He dons a complimentary set of dark Bronze colored armor, inlaid with runic magic. An artisans belt full of various tools and chain wrap his waste comfortably. He Wields his favored weapon in his War hammer, Splat. A particularly creative and destructive hammer augmented with its own ancient magic.

Backstory:
Succumbed by rage and tricked into following a particularly nasty and intelligent troll into his lair. Their, the Dragonborn Grimash was tested beyond all measures of battle proficiency, for Slogoth the troll was unbearably a more fierce opponent. Slogoth literally tearing the left arm of the dragon clear from his body.

Broken and left for dead, his battalion was able to retrieve his body from behind enemy lines. Grim spent months in recovery, healing a tattered and broken body. Even the clans most experienced healers could not make him whole, so they experimented.

Rehabilitation was a long and extensive process, but the stubborn nature of the dragonborn was a tool of its own and one to be utilized. Grimash Re purposed himself with a need to contribute beyond a physical presence, defying the overwhelming complications that arose with his new body. His motivation being derived from the healers and scientists who pieced him back together.

He is now known to expend his talents both on the battlefield and off. Protecting his Ally’s , repairing what is broken, and tracking down his most potent enemy.

What I would like to get from this game: A sense of wonderment filled with exploration, intrigue and combat. Grande character building. Heroism.

NPC #1 - Doctor Revenus bloodcloth, Lizardfolk Cleric. lead surgeon responsible for putting Grimash back together. The two have kindled a like minded friendship and appreciation for technology.

NPC#2 - Malaki, a fence who Grimash barters with. Malaki is a runt Kobold thief and swindler.

NPC#3 (hostile) - Slogoth the wild. A terribly nasty and intelligent troll. Known to some as the dragon eater. Grimash views Slogoth as his arch nemesis and seeks vengeance upon him.

Safety tools: I am open to everything.

Checking out the info on magic. What catagory would sorcerers, bards, and/or warlock magics fall under?

Hey folks! Thanks so much for the interest!

Just wanted to write and say I’ll be posting feedback soonish, and may push the deadline a week due to work starting suddenly for me and other factors.

Overall note: any way you want to apply is great, just please make it easy to read so I’m not struggling to find info. A lot of you are doing the field set approach, love it, that’s great.

Let me know if you have any lore questions about my world where the game takes place. A few quick notes to get you started:

Magic is highly controlled and licensed. You’re either working for the church, state (army usually, city watch, or black mage enforcement), a recognized academy of magic or college of barding, or you’re a noble and mommy and daddy bought you a license. That or you’re a black mage… and that COULD be dicey.

If you’re a Dragonborn, there’s only 1 country outside the major Dragonborn empire where Dragonborn, humans, and elves cohabitate without it being highly authoritarian, otherwise you’d be coming from a country that is a major global power and likely have some arrogant baggage heaped on you.

If you’re looking to be a noble you’re probably going to be in the starting country, so think about that.

If you’re a mage or magic user there’s academy’s of learning in nearby countries but it’s going to be elven controlled it closest, or a guild run city that excavates dragon hordes and has a tight control on magic item sales and exports. Think Ravnica.

Let me know if that doesn’t cover what you’re thinking.
