Presumably chosen from the schools available to them via their implement selection? So at Occultist 1, a character who chose Just as an example. And then later when you get an actual adventuring class that is presumably actually an occult class at that point?

The game world is intended to have a substantial problem with ghosts, haunts and spirits of various sorts: afterall, 95% of the world just died in the context of a magical energy field that makes afterlives of various sorts impinge more upon everyday life.

Yes -- the 1 bonus per spell level would be from any of the sources available to them, and the actual selection might differ from one level to the next.

This game is kind of made for people who like optimizing mechanics. You should be able to see how the freedom to choose Favored Class Bonuses and Greater Stances let you mitigate the weaknesses of the given class.

Willow Of the three elder Ladies of the Canyon, Annie, Trina and Estrella, it was Annie who fell to the initial orc assault.

A whistling twirl of a spiked chain around the elderly woman's neck, and a fierce yank, and she had fallen at a brute Uruk Hai's feet. She was alive and protesting when the orc dragged her down the slope, toward the paved asphalt road. Each time she protested or cried out, he callously shook her. At some point, she stopped moving. She was one of the first placed on the invader's cooking fires.

So died one of the wisest and most beloved of the Topangan tribe's leaders. All mourned her loss, especially the Buddhist community.

Trina had been injured gravely. The delicate elder woman with long but thin white hair was shockingly pale now. Her leg was splinted; but she could not walk on it. Her family carried her about now. But she retained a steely dedication in her eyes. If she laid eyes upon someone, they could hardly but feel her fierce determination: do what's right, do what's just, do what the tribe most needs ... whatever the cost.

Estrella of the eldest leaders was whole in body, but broken-hearted. Estrella was a chubby woman of Mexican descent; her family had the richest farmland in the Canyon -- and they had provided rare supplies of grain and sugar to Annie, who had been the tribe's best chef. Estrella's music and Annies cooking had brought people together. But Estrella's mischievous grin and sly eyes were now shuttered with grief. The low and high had fallen, there was scarcely one tribe member who had not been stunned with unspeakable grief. But it was time to crawl out of shock into urgent activity.

When the mostly teenaged group's idea was put to them, they agreed, sadly but without much hesitation. "Yes, we must mount a great migration out of the canyon," Trina said. "The young must now lead."

Estrella, wiping away tears, said. "Willow must be among the scouting party. Her talent is necessary to find a safe path. One wrong stumble into a death-zone, and we could lose half the tribe."

"Scouting party? But must all leave! Before these ... filthy cannibals ... return." Trina's wrath was plain; and it was well know that she longed for the tribe to always act together, in unity -- whether to fight or flee.

"You are in no condition to walk," Estrella said. The elder lady's leg had been broken, when an orc's skull-ram had sent debris flying. " And you cannot be carried by wanderers over hill and bramble who know not their destination, nor how to find food or water in the wastelands for a great many. A fast-moving group must find a way. They must search out a path to a place of refuge, and find a place where we can settle, somewhere inland. The coast of Malibu, any place within raiding-distance of the sea is too dangerous. North, into F'nando, is the only way. We cannot survive another raid!"

Trina, who was wincing in pain, agreed readily. "Willow, will you take on this burden? Help find a safe path! Record it with care -- we have paper and ink, take these precious supplies -- go, and come back quickly with a knowledge of the path!

May the Lord bless you, and keep you, may He shine His face upon you, and lead you to be the earthly salvation of what souls remain alive in the Canyon."



Willow is accepted.

A bunch more roles need to be filled!

(I may cap the total number of Adepts at 2-3, though, to get some diversity in the party.)

With Detect Elder Darkness -- the first two of you have good instincts for avoiding blundering into a total-party-kill. :-)

A Zealot is a solid fighter type -- and can enhance and support a party in diverse ways. It is vaguely paladin like, and tilted more in that direction by "Detect Elder Darkness".

For Dorita, you'll need alignment, stats, traits, level 1 feat. And her backgrounds is not finished.

As a Zealot -- what will her guiding passion be? The religious faiths of the Canyon are described. One can also be an outlier.

Yes, you can wear glasses. Lots of dead pre-war people to take them off of. Probably metal -- stainless steel -- as plastic may not last well a hundred years.

@17 -- I updated the applicants table (second post in this thread.)

So far we have people planning to be druid (pure caster type not fighter type), and Zealot (a fighter, but of a sort that tends to be a partner and support for a team rather than the frontline striker or tank.). So there is room for either a cleric or paladin.

If you go Cleric, then starting as Warrior would give you greater weapon proficiencies and BAB - and you could progress as a martial cleric.

Straight Paladins are fine frontliners -- and with evil, horror and corruption in this world, they've got what it takes to stand against it. Paladins can be feat-starved and skill starved, and starting as commoner or expert helps with one or the other.

Path of War has its own version of a paladin, which looks pretty solid:

It uses
Golden Lion -- giving battle inspiration and team buffs
Iron Tortoise -- giving tanking and defender abilities
Silver Crane -- holy warrior / celestial fighter abilities.

Well I was looking on doing a Harbinger with Umbral Blade but it looks like that may have been filled unless you feel differently CCC. I don't feel like skillmongering again so maybe ranged something. I will have to take a look at Path of War and see what their ranged class looks like.

Generally I prefer character threads to have all current info in their first post and/or on their character sheet. Everything after the first post is just conversation and I will never consult it to look for what you are carrying, what abilities you have. So keep the top post current and clean -- containing only what you *actually* have not what you intend to someday get.

I prefer that character threads not be private. I'm not too much into the effort of tracking who knows what secrets. That's best for a mystery game where players are potentially at cross purposes, but that's not the style of game I run.
