Little Trouble in Big Absalom

Game NameLittle Trouble in Big Absalom

Game SystemPathfinder 2nd Edition

Description
For generations, the Hookclaw kobolds have lived beneath the city known as Absalom, scratching out a hardscrabble existence by scavenging from the earth-packed ruins of ancient, buried buildings. In all that time, the Hookclaws have never been conquered or wiped out by more powerful forces, which makes them truly prestigious by kobold standards. Unfortunately, this prestige has never resulted in wealth or comfort. For as long as the Hookclaws have existed, they have lived in relative austerity among meager warrens and have simmered with envy at more famous and well-off kobold clans such as the renowned Sewer Dragons.

Yet the smell of change is in the air. Just recently, a party of Hookclaw miners accidentally broke into an underground room that was stuffed full of treasures and luxuries, most of them in far better condition than the time-rotted relics that the Hookclaws typically own. Firm advocates of looking gift horses in the mouth, however, the Hookclaws have rounded up their greatest heroes, most eager volunteers, and most violent misanthropes to explore the mysterious area. Once the chamber has been secured and deemed safe, the Hookclaws can cart off the treasure and live the opulent lives they have long deserved!

Character Creation and Application
This adventure is set for level 1 characters. I’m prioritizing new players over veteran ones, but anyone is welcome.

We start with the usual 15 gold, you’re free to do with that amount of money what you wish.

All published books are allowed when creating your character.
No homebrew for now, as this is meant to be an introductory adventure for new players.
Application
Name: What’s the name of your little guy/gal/dragon goblin?
Sheet: Not needed yet, but you’re free to go ahead and make one
Ancestry: Kobold only
Heritage: Caveclimber, Cavern, Dragonscaled, Spellscale, Strongjaw, Tunnelflood, or Venomtail
*Class:
*Alignment: No evil alignments, please. But if you must, your character has to care about the party members at least
Background: Sure, you’ve been part of the Hookclaw Clan since you remember, but you surely have your own backstory
Kobold NPC: This one is completely optional too, but for roleplay purposes, it would be useful to have a personal NPC of your own. They can be a family member, childhood friend, or who knows, maybe even a romantic interest of your character. It can also be a rival, or your personal antagonist. Again, this one is just for fun, and to enhance roleplay.

Appearance: (Text is optional. But please provide an image of your character)

About the Player:
Completely optional. Tell me something about yourself. This is our icebreaker section, our Session 0
It can be anything, from an RPGhorrorstory, to your favorite book you’ve recently read. This is your space, fill it however you wish!

*Only the Champion Class has strict rules set on Alignment.

Dungeon MasterHeyo, my name is Dechado. Though you’re free to call me Decha, since it’s shorter.
And I always say this, because it keeps being funny to me. My username means “Paragon” in Spanish, but that’s the joke, I’m anything but exemplary. lulz

With the drama with WoTC, which we won’t talk about here, I decided to try several different systems other than D&D 5e with some friends, Pathfinder 2e was one of them, and I instantly fell in love with it!
This would be my first time DMing a 2e game, but I am willing to learn as I go.

I absolutely love beast races, and when I found out this Adventure existed, I decided I wanted to DM it!

As your Dungeon Master, I will be your best fan. I want you and your character to win. I loathe the idea of Player(s) VS DM.
I have to control the actions enemies take, but never think I’m doing it to actively hurt the PCs
I won’t call myself a Meat Free Dungeon Master, but I honestly do my best to avoid character deaths. However, do understand that that is part of the game, and not me hating you or your character.

Other
Players: 5 adventurers.
Posting Rate: Lately I’ve been busy with work, as we recently had to let go a coworker, so we’re understaffed. And since this is a relatively small adventure, I believe I am able to commit to it. That said, I usually can do a post a week, maybe more depending on how fast players also manage to post. Remember, a lot of us look into forum roleplay as a highlight of our week, or just something fun on the side while we rest on the weekend. Communication is key; Feel free to use the OOC thread to notify us if you need more time, or PM me directly.
As your DM, I am always available, and I’ll try to respond/resolve the issue as soon as I am able to (:

FAQCan I play as another race that isn’t kobold?
Short answer? No.
Long answer? Also no.
Longer answer? You’d better have a silver tongue to convince me. If you manage to persuade your fellow players why another race would befriend the Hookclaw kobolds and follow their orders, then I’ll allow it. But it is honestly quite unlikely I’ll budge.

When’s the deadline?
I think I’ll start as soon as I get 5 applicants, since that’s the amount of players needed for the run. Don’t feel discouraged if you already see 5 people though, sometimes people have to leave for personal reasons, and backup players are always needed. Since this is a short adventure, it is possible I’ll try to run it with another group once I am done with the previous one.
But just to have a date, and give people time to think about it, I’ll say mid March, so, the 15th.

Do you have plans to continue the adventure after the module ends?
Right now it’s a soft no.
If people are comfortable with my DMing style, and there’s good chemistry between the players, I might decide to move the players towards another adventure with the same characters.

Character
left-aligned image

Name: Zahza Blue Tongue
Ancestry: Kobold - Gold
Heritage: Spellscale
Class: Sorcerer - Phoenix Bloodline
Alignment: CN

Character: Zahza has a short attention span for anything that doesn't fall within his interests. He does not like getting wet and never shares his food nor is he afraid to take something he wants. He never gives up on an opportunity to show off or make himself seem more powerful, wealthy, and charismatic than he truly is.

About the Player: I'm new to 2e.. so I will do something wrong. let me know, part of the learning experience.

Welcome you two!

@Exeter
I’m also fairly new to the system, so let’s make mistakes a many, and learn together!
Zahza looks good and everything seems to be in order!
(Love your White Mage icon!)

@jr1v3
Not going to lie, I like your concept already. But like I said, I won’t budge unless everyone agrees.
What Eidolon did you have in mind to be your companion?

I was thinking a dragon one! I also like the idea of supporting so perhaps a fey eilodon that have a humanoid form as a fairy dragon or something like that but I like the idea of the dragon eidolon better. It will give the gnome a reason to be acknowledged as part of the clan, he thinks he is a cursed kobold or it was what his mother said to him, that is why he is so ugly by kobold standards but he is a feytouched gnome that have too much of a fey so he is in other race standart beautiful.

I almost always play a healer in games, so white mage is always a fit... including FFXIV.

Name: Skrizka
Sheet: None yet
Ancestry: Kobold - Copper
Heritage: Dragonscaled
*Class:
*Alignment: Chaotic Good
Background: Skrizka was born the only child of her parents, who doted upon her and loved her deeply. She was born during a powerful conjunction of the stars, which the rest of the Clan interpreted as her having a destiny, but that never came to pass.

As a child, Skrizka accidentally brought death upon another one of her Clanmates by freezing up in fear when her cousin was trapped under a collapsed building. She deeply regretted her mistake and felt so bad for her aunt and uncle, who never knew the truth. She had always been a great liar, and she felt guilty for not telling them the true way their daughter died.

As a teenager, Skrizka became more adventurous and thrill-seeking, trying to run from her past mistakes. She would often be the one persuading her friends to get into scrapes and shenanigans but also always the one taking the blame by lying to get them out of it. She fell in love with a Gold Kobold from the Sewer Dragons, and their relationship burned brightly for a time, but when he betrayed her, she was heartbroken and swore to hate him forever.
Kobold NPC: Zebe was formerly Skrizka's lover, but since he betrayed her for a girl from his own clan, she hates him with a passion. Their relationship turned sour and she is now his rival.

Appearance:
(Picrew for now, better image coming later)

About the Player:
Hello! I love roleplaying, especially DnD with my irl crew at school and NationStates. Funny story from my last irl DnD session (or at least it was funny if you were there )

So let me set the scene. Our crew has been knocked out and put in a magically sealed cell. A guard is coming and my friend and I decide to pretend to be unconscious. The guard comes in, we fool him, he turns to take away our two other party members. We have a plan to stab him in the back of the neck with our daggers and in the pressure of it all, our wizard yells "Look, a distraction!" It works (somehow) and the guard is killed. We stand on each other's shoulders, put the armour on and head out. On our way out we meet another guard. He is suspicious of us so again the wizard yells, "Look, a distraction!" It works a second time (nat 20 I might add) and we ditch the armour and run off down the corridor. Then we're confronted by the head of the prison. He doesn't fall for the look a distraction and tries to pick our wizard up by the head. Bear in mind, our wizard is an elf and this guy's about 9 foot tall. But the wizard succeeds on all the saving throws he's asked to do, and this massive barbarian struggles to pick up this puny little elf wizard XD.

Well... we thought it was funny.

Hey welcome aboard!
I love Skrizka already. She’s had it rough, but her heart is still in the right place. ;w;
Pretty interesting you picked a Sewer Dragon NPC! Let’s see if we can show Zebe what he truly lost by betraying our girl!

Your story was quite funny! That’s the beauty of D&D, a lot of things can change by what the die deign show us. xD

Thank you, and yes that's very true XD. One thing I forgot to add, Skrizka is a Rogue but like the good kind. Think Robin Hood, not 'hood robbin'

Name: Hungar The Hackulator
Ancestry: Kobold
Heritage: Red Dragonscale
Class: Barbarian (of course)
Instinct: Red Dragon
Alignment: Neutral good-ish
Background: Gladiator

Hungar was born to a close knit extended family, respected among the Hookclaws. Almost before he could walk he set about rebelling against his family's good reputation, exhibiting wrathful fits and violent behavior that his parents were powerless to stop. The only silver lining was that his anger was almost always directed at the deserving, albeit usually out out of proportion to the offense.

When he was of age (arguably a bit earlier, since his parents were in a bit of a rush) he was sent out into the world to make a name for himself. This he did with a surprisingly successful foray into the above-ground world of prize fighting and gladiatorial combat, an area which suited his temperament and natural capabilities perfectly. Initially he was included as something of a comedy act; his willingness to fight literally anything resulted in some "Kobold Vs. ..." billings that drew decent sized, curious audiences. His tendency to survive, if not win, these mismatched challenges eventually won him a small but enthusiastic set of fans.

Though he sent home regular letters and care packages (theatrically bloodstained), he didn't consider returning to his clan in person until learning of developments that might require aid from someone with his particular skill set. A true adventure to test his martial skills and help his people rise out of squalor was irresistible...

Kobold NPC: Numbar The Calculator. Hungar's older brother is one of the clan's foremost accountants. Each considers the other tremendously embarrassing, but they would put their lives on the line for each other as well. Hungar readily points out that an axe is much more useful than an abacus when facing an insurmountable horde.

Bonus NPC: Mr. Shivley. Hungar's erstwhile agent. A barely competent half elf, willing to sell gladiatorial appearances to anyone with a bit of silver to spare, regardless of how venue appropriate the appearance might be (Mr. Shivley is responsible for at least one particularly memorable birthday party). He is concerned for Hungar's well being, insofar as Hungar is the only kind-of-successful profit making venture he has ever been involved with.

right-aligned image

Appearance: Hungar is hulking (for a kobold) and takes care to keep his scales gleaming and his demeanor intimidating (for a kobold). He wears well maintained second-hand armor and a perpetual intimidating sneer. His glower notwithstanding, he is as much a showman at heart as he is a fighter and is given to doing impressive practice swings, battle cries and other routines whenever he has anything that might be construed as an audience.

About the Player:
I've been playing various RPG's for a while now but this would be my first Pathfinder game ever and my first martial character in over a decade.

Hungar is based very-very closely on an NPC from a D&D game I'm running for some friends. He challenged them to a wrestling match. They brought an axe, forcing him to retreat in public. He's been out to get them ever since.

Hey, welcome!
Everything sounds good, but do remember this is a Level 1 story. So even with all the succesful gladiator matches he's managed to survive/win, he'd still be green when it comes to actual adventuring.
Other than that, I quite like his origin story. RAGE AGAINST INEQUITY

Which instinct are you picking for your 'boldbarian? :O

(Glad to see another Final Fantasy fan, I see your Black Mage icon! Do you and Exeter know each other already by any chance?)
