Whispers of Destiny

Game NameWhispers of Destiny
Game SystemPF 2e
ThemeLoss, Overcoming Loss
FlavourBayonetta, Bloodborne, and Mid-High Fantasy in a South and West Asian-inspired setting
Plot Summary
Ramyasthana Is DyingThe water is drying up in Ramyasthana, one of the oldest surviving cities of the world. This oasis city is dying as a result. You, as members of the warrior caste and established adventurers, have been tasked by the city's priest caste to find a way to restore the water. Local legend says that the Eyes of the World, a pair of chakrams, were responsible for the water in the first place, so the first step is finding them. No one's really sure what the next step is, since the variant tales all differ, but most assume a great beast must be slain with them.

Nearby is the Forest of Embers, a scorched forest, between you and the next town over (a day away on camel's back), on the edge of the desert you are used to, just outside the view from the city walls.

People do not trust the gods, who gamble with their souls freely. However, some still worship them as creators and destroyers. The gods do not love the mortals in return, they only created them. You are immune to their gambling as your soul is already spoken for by your eidolon, who will claim it on your death.

To the South, across the desert, the people of Al Mualim have found a way to bind souls to advanced, exotic machinery, creating automatons. Additionally, all over the world, dolls (poppets) are gaining sapience, as are a small number of skeletons, the latter of which enjoy painting their bones to mark themselves as both unique from other skeletons and unique from other sapient skeletons.

One constant in all local adventurers lives is the tea shop, Ajagar Ka Khajaana, run by a man with a powerful aura by the name of Arjun. Some say he is an angel, others a demon, still others say he's a mix of the two, or something else altogether. The only thing people agree on is his perceived strength in combat.

Inside Ajagar Ka Khajaana, you've found it difficult for your eidolon to manifest, to the point you think it may be impossible. Arjun says it's just because you're more than six feet underground, so your eidolon is unaware if you're still alive, but he says so with a smirk.
ExpectationsI expect one post per week, but faster or slower is fine, too.

I will be taking four or five players of any level of proficiency with the system. As long as you understand how summoners work, you can play (because everyone is a summoner).

You do not need working knowledge of South or West Asian stuff. It's only inspired by it, not directly copying it. Make up stuff you don't know and it'll be canon if you get chosen.

You will be returning to Ajagar Ka Khajaana frequently.

You may or may not know or know of each other, up to you guys. You will meet in Ajagar Ka Khajaana.

Things will change in town while you're away. Just keep that in mind.

Finally, while this is uses some terms from Bayonetta, it does not follow the lore. I just like the terms for the game since it gave me the inspiration to make this. You do not need any knowledge of Bayonetta as a result.
ApplicationName:
Ancestry and Heritage: All are allowed (because even poppets and automatons have souls they can barter to make deals, and a rare few sapient skeletons do, as well).
Eidolon: You're all summoners, but you don't necessarily share the same type of eidolon. Tell me which type of entity you've made a deal with and its name. (Note that Plant and Beast eidolons' home plane is the First World, not the material plane. No eidolon is from the material plane).
Alignments: The alignments of you and your eidolon. They do not need to match, but you do need to be good or neutral.
First Archetype: That's right, we're using the "free archetype" rules AND starting at 2nd level. Choose a 2nd level archetype feat you qualify for and gain it for free. Every even level, you gain another.
Background: You are all of the warrior (kshatriya) caste if you're from Ramyasthana. Keep that in mind when choosing backgrounds.

Personality:

Description:

People: Some people you know or know of in Ramyasthana and what they do.

Two Goals: Other than the main story goal, obviously.

History: Your character need not be from Ramyasthana, but give them a reason to help the drying city. Also, those from Ramyasthana have access to firearms, regardless of class.

Interested no matter the answers to the questions below

Are we all playing summoner class with free Archetype or are we all playing whatever class we want with the Summoner Archetype ?

or is it even play whatever you want if you play a non summoner get summoner Archetype or vise versa a non summoner gets summoner Archetype for free ?

And one last question for this post - does the free archetype stop us from taking a regular Archetype ?

Playing the summoner class with a free archetype.

It only stops you from taking regular archetypes because of the limit presented in the dedication: You have to have 2 more feats from the archetype other than the dedication before you take another. If you stick to just one archetype for your free ones, you'd be able to take another at 8th level with your regular ones. If that makes sense?

Edit: actually, you'd be able to take it at 6th level.

I'm not very proficient with Pathfinder 2e and I find that the text is a bit ambiguous for a concept I had in mind, so my question is: is the item restriction (Eidolon trait) only relative to magic items? Is an Eidolon otherwise free to use mundane items?

I think this may help - Some eidolons' unarmed attacks might look like swords, clubs, or other weapons, even though they are extensions of the eidolon's form. Your choice of unarmed attack determines its damage type— bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing, as appropriate. From the full rules on Eidolons

Thank you, but I was wondering more about tools and the like. Since Eidolons can seemingly get skill feats later on, I had the idea of a field medic that could double up on healing with his Eidolon, assuming the latter can use healer's tools.

DM would always have final say but I don't think so only finding 4 items that have the trait that lets them use it -

I mean, healer's tools are probably fine. They're just not manifesting or unmanifesting with your eidolon.

Are there voluntary flaws in PF2e?

Edit: If you mean ability score ones, then yes.

I am brand spanking new to PF. Will this game be friendly to newcomers such as myself?

Ermine, do you have a particular deadline in mind for the applications?

The game can be newbie friendly, yes.

I do not currently have a deadline in mind. When I feel like there are enough applications to do so, I'll set one. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later.

This is certainly an interesting game world. Everyone has summoning powers.
Name: Oma the Brown
Race: Skilled Human
Main summoner class: Beast/primal summoner.
Eideolon type and appearance: Nimble beast; resembles a goat made of earth and clay. Claims not to have a name in the way humans do. Seems to be hiding something....
Free Archetype: Rogue muti-class
Mechanical Background: Envoy variant. He is a minor messenger employed by merchants.
Appearance: Small with dark brown eyes, skin, and hair. Wears brown leather clothing (functions as leather armor in combat.)
Combat Style: Snipes with a short bow from range or uses his eidolon in melee. Saves most of his magic for healing.
Other abilities. Will gain assurance (nature) and natural medicine for out-of-combat healing.
Personality: Quiet and withdrawn. Easily overlooked.
Background: Ramyasthana is where he was born and raised, and where he wants to live out his life. He has had a rather dull life until a strange beast of clay and stone appeared before him and offered him a deal. It would bind his soul to its own, linking their existence in this life and the next. It seemed to be better than risking the Ghods playing dice with devils for his soul. Upon death, he will become an elemental being in the plane of earth. Until then, he serves the city, using the power the beast gives him to heal and protect. He does not seek glory, but only a city where he can live in peace.
Other notes: Will probably focus on defensive feats. Is unlikely to ever learn to wield the Eyes of the World himself.
Alignment: Neutral, with good tendencies.
People/Contacts: His family is rather large, and they all work at various shops and merchant stalls, running goods in and out of the shops for the various merchants. They have no desire to own their own shops, as doing so entails great risk. Live simply and don't stick your neck out is a principle he learned early on. He also knows several of the merchants, the most memorable of whom is Protesting Artu. His name comes from the fact that he obeys almost any order given to him, under protest.
Main goal: Keep the city safe, while staying safe himself.
Secondary goal: Discover the truth of where the water comes from.
