Already had some scarily good applications so far! Still waiting on confirmation on the game, but once I do I'll create an open roleplaying thread and a stat rolling thread for you to make your stats.

Just for now, I've left everyone as incomplete. Once your stats are confirmed, just let me know if I need to mark you as complete or not

Since returning to RPGX I’ve been trying to be more strict about how many games I am in. Two One that I am in has seemingly stalled out, and this seems like an interesting setup, not to mention the 1/week posting rate seems very do-able.

Class: Brawler

Race: Half-Orc

Traits: Bloody Minded, Bruising Intellect, Cruelty (Drawback)

Reason for Arrival: Blood Sacrifice: You were shipped from your home to Julianople to be a blood sacrifice of Sophi. You came to the temple, where your blood was extracted. However, it was decided that you would not die, but instead you would be torn at by both beasts and men alike. This lasted for 40 days, and you left the temple knowing you had done your duty. But now you need money, either to live here or charter a ship home.
Benefit: You must be a follower of Sophi. +1 on all Concentration checks. If you are Bleeding, you can stop the bleeding with sheer willpower on a Will Save of DC 20.

Description: Vyeggar the half-orc brawler stands 6’ 2”, with a broad back and bulging muscles. His hands are large and look like they could break a man’s arm with hardly any effort. His wide, golden-brown eyes rarely blink, and they never seem to miss a thing. Although half-orcs are notorious for their savagery on the battlefield, Vyeggar has an unpleasant looking grin when he knows he’s going to be able to hurt someone, his point-filed teeth gleaming in anticipation. He’s cunning and speaks quietly, preferring to let his fists do the talking when words fail, and once he’s made up a mind to put the hurting on someone, he doesn’t stop until he or his foe lies bleeding on the floor… and even then, he’s not to be counted out.

Because one tends to influence the otherPersonality and History: Killers are not born, but made, and for twenty-four years the world has done much to craft Vyeggar into the person he is today. Having lost his father at the age of nine, Vyeggar has borne the burden of helping to raise his two younger brothers. Now fully grown and free to live his own life, Vyeggar has watched his surrogate children come up against the harsh realities of the real world, a world Vyeggar had done his best to protect them from. But poor is poor and a half orc is still an orc, and when the world thinks you’re nothing but a mindless criminal brute on sight, over time it becomes harder and harder to fight against that negative current – until eventually, it becomes too much, and giving in is the only option. And what was once a life to be avoided becomes all too quickly the only life available, where crime and violence and blood are as essential as a doctor’s scalpel or a baker’s rolling pin.

Vyeggar was strong – strong enough to withstand anything, but when a desperate last attempt to save his soul found him in league with the Sophists and their curious fixation with blood sacrifice, Vyeggar emerged from the last of the cocoon that kept him bound to polite society. The endless weeks of torture and bloodshed he endured left a mark on his soul, and when he came out the other side with a body covered in scars, he found he had also lost whatever shred of mercy remained – a birch log which has been picked at until whatever bark existed lies wasted on the ground, leaving rotten heartwood beneath.

Still, Vyeggar needed to eat and sleep, and he couldn’t do that without money. He knew enough of the city to seek out Tilly at her casino, knowing that for someone of his type he’d not find a more suitable and lucrative place of employment. He was not unmindful about the danger of working for a figure such as Tilly, but gutter rats cannot be too choosy about what morsels are available to them. As it happened, there were… other reasons why being close to Tilly worked out. Unfortunately, the delivery did not go as planned, and now Vyeggar is dead set on getting his hands on the chest – as well as whoever arranged for its capture. And if that involves breaking some fingers and wrenching some joints along the way, well, Vyeggar is more than happy to oblige.

- Vyeggar takes great pride in his thick black hair, and can’t start his day without combing it just-so.

So looking more at your attrib system
you get two good scores which can be between 14 and 20 (is the 20 before racial mods?)
two normal stats between 9 an 15
and finally two bad stats between 4 and 10, can racial mods take this down to 2 or is there a bottom limit?

You could certainly get quite the swing in character power with this I would think, but I think the part I struggle with more is characters with 4 or 5 in an attribute are going to have some very serious flaws I would think especially with numbers in order. Knowing my luck I will have 2 4s which will make for some interesting rp opportunities I am sure with my str 4 who struggles to wear clothing and carry a backpack, and 4 intelligence who will be attempting to communicate via gestures because language is just hard.

I better start my sacrifices to the dice gods now

I'm holding off any sort of investment in a concept for this game until we've got a thread up to roll stuff. Because if I pre-pitch something that depends on a single stat, I'm gonna eat a 14 there (along with the 4 we all know is coming). Absolute certainty.

Description: Either a picture or, if one is not available, a text description of your character's appearance.

Personality: This is a large factor into whether or not your character will be accepted. Try to make this at least three paragraphs long, just so I can get a decent grasp on who your character is. The more intriguing the character, the better.

History: This is your character's history. The world has been left very open for you to run rampant, and you can improvise what you like. Try to make this at least two paragraphs long.

Unique Goal:*PUT THIS IS IN SECRET TEXT!*This is something that your character wants to achieve separate from finding the chest that was lost from Tilly One-Eye Gansog and the reason they're an adventurer. It can be as elaborate or simple and cliche as possible. It can be searching for your parent's murderer, or looking for a cure to some disease, or anything else. Name: Signe Fairhair - Sheet [Just gear left. Shopping for a 7 Str character is a special experience.]

Reason: Gladiator (although not quite conventionally so...)

History

Across the desert, Signe's people live a semi-nomadic life, bound by the ties of family and shared oral history. Blessed with bright eyes and a clear voice -- and too slight of frame for much else besides -- she was destined to become a tribal storyteller. But destiny has a way of changing expectations. During an attack by desert marauders, she was taken captive and sold in turn to the Gray Princes. The self-titled Princes operated a traveling gladiatorial contest, offering people in communities bordering the desert expanse the low entertainment of watching their fellow men fight (and sometimes die) for the amusement of the masses. Like Signe, many of the gladiators were slaves, or at least began as such. Crowd favorites and long-term survivors were manumitted to serve as trainers. None of which offered a clear role for a slender young woman whose direct combat skills were, at best, rather dubious. The Princes considered offering her as a reward to victorious combatants, or using her to stage a "Sapphron" tableau where she would be -- presumably -- set upon by tigers, or simply killing her outright. Fortunately for Signe, her skills in song and oratory served to impress even the stoic Princes.

Perhaps you have heard a tale like this? A beautiful maiden set before a cruel desert lord, who forestalls her fate for a single day by the telling of a perfect story. Over and over, for a thousand nights or more...? No? It matters little, because that is not Signe's story. Instead, she was spared on the condition that she lend her talents to the spectacle. Working the crowds, offering ever-more-elaborate tales of the gladiators' backgrounds, urging the onlookers to support one fighter or another as the Princes deemed best. And then lending story and song to bolster the strength of whoever the Princes deemed worthy of victory.

But in their greed, the Princes did not realize that the power to inspire their chosen warriors and to stoke the fervor of the crowd as they desired were tools that could just as easily turn the masses against them. In many of the places the Princes' exhibition visited, the people were little better off than the gladiatorial slaves. In such desperate conditions of spiritual dryness, a single spark can be enough to set things alight. And so it was that Signe rallied the gladiators to best their guards and lickspittle trainers, called upon the onlooking peasants to seize their opportunity for freedom, and -- while the exhibition burned behind her -- slipped away into the night to her own freedom. If any of the Gray Princes survived, she doubtless has earned their eternal enmity.

But for now she has found a home in Julianople, which is a better life only by degrees. The oppressed people of this corrupted place cry out for change, and it would be no great task to fan the flames of yet another doomed revolution among the farmers to the east and north. But Signe has sworn to be a better woman than the men who controlled so much of her life so far. Her talents will make the world around her a better place, not merely a different one. And the next time things around her begin to burn, should it come to pass, she will not merely slink off into the darkness.

PersonalityLive hard, love well.

Signe has seen some of the worst of what humanity has to offer. Her time with a family, clan, and tribe who cared for her deeply and promised her a future of respect and honor is a distant memory, the fading echo of a life never lived. Faced with such trials, many have let the darkness define them or simply... broken. But a fire of passion burns in Signe's heart, one that her tribulations were powerless to extinguish.

Sometimes those passions do get the better of her. Slavery, bigotry, the callous abuse of the weak by the strong. She tries to understand that the world will not be made right overnight, that such ills cannot be swept aside like so much sand before the desert breeze. But it's easy enough to goad her to action when she could end the suffering of others, and she doesn't always think through the consequences.

The rest of the time, well, Signe has found that an awful lot of "adventurers" seem to be the dour sort who take up the corner chair in the back of the tavern. She doesn't... she can't live that way. She greets strangers with a smile, and acquaintances with an embrace. Everywhere she goes, she tries to leave with more friends than she had the day before. And, sure, there's an element of danger to living that way. There's an element of danger to everything, after all. If standing in the light draws out her enemies more readily than skulking in the shadows, so much the better to see them. And in the meantime, a good meal, a glass of wine or stein of mead, and the company of other pleasant souls -- what could be more worth fighting for and living for?

Tidbits
  • Signe is certain that there's some truth to the religion of this land, but she can't quite settle on what that truth might be. In the meantime, she carries charms or holy symbols dedicated to influential goddess from all three predominate faiths (at a minimum; Sapphron, Sophi, and all Three Sisters). You never know! Out of character, think Beni from the 1999 film The Mummy... except that Signe's not a craven, self-serving backstabber.
  • Animals make Signe a little nervous. She never had pets, of course. And most of her experience with animals was witnessing their use and abuse in the arenas. Besides, all the skill in the world with story and song doesn't help her understand how they act or what they want. To be sure, at this point, she'll ride a horse if she really needs to, but she'd rather not. Even tame beasts can be dangerous when pressed, and you never really know...
  • Time and hardship have blurred most of her memories of her original home and family. But she still remembers the first song her mother taught her when it was decided that she would be trained as a skald. It was an alba, a "morning song", telling the story of the daughter of a powerful thane, who had spent the night with her lover, and now had to face the light of morning. It was almost certainly the first part of a longer saga inspired by some bit of history, but Signe never learned the rest. Over the years, she's come to realize how little of the song's layered meanings she understood as a young girl. Regardless, of all the tales she knows to tell and songs she knows to sing, it is the only one that she never lends her voice to. It is the last private secret kept between the girl whose life was stolen away and the woman she has become instead.

I rolled below average and a 2 on the stat that the character was aspiring to build around (Charisma). I don't want to ask for any favors or stats adjustments that others aren't receiving, so withdrawing
