Plot Summary Delta Green Ask any two Delta Green agents “What is Delta Green?” and you’ll get two very different answers. It is an enigma. Its mission requires concealing itself from the public, from the rest of the U.S. government, and even, sometimes, from its own agents. It is likely that even a veteran agent has met fewer than five Delta Green operatives. That’s it. There are no cubicles. No secret bases. No newsletters or human resources intranets. No badges or letterhead. Every team is spread out, coming together only when a mission demands it. Details about the leadership are off-limits. If there is a headquarters, you’ve never seen it. If you do know more, you know to keep it to yourself. Such knowledge could get people arrested or killed. The group is more like a secret society than an agency of the federal government. Every Delta Green agent spends most of his or her time working a “real” job. Many are FBI, CIA, or military, but nearly any profession can be found in Delta Green’s ranks. Delta Green recruits a new prospect only after confirming that he or she can handle the work and the unconventional demands the group makes. They usually look to federal agents and special forces, adaptable professionals trained to cope with overwhelming stress and danger. Sometimes prospects are recruited from other fields, such as science, anthropology, or medicine. If the prospect has encountered the unnatural, all the better. Delta Green wants people who recognize the depth of the danger. If your first instinct is to go public with an unnatural discovery, it’s likely you are not a Delta Green recruit but a Delta Green mission. Blessed with a bountiful crop the Whatly family prospers and grows until the 100th anniversary of the sigil. The deal done; the strange forces that once blessed the family begin collecting their debt. When 3 children go missing from the nearby town PI George Samuelson is sent to investigate. Ctrl Alt Del Something is in the internet, and its hungry. It all started as an Urban Legend. A video circulating around the usual dark internet sites that specialize in the weird, creepy, and bizarre – but when a group of college freshmen watch the video in the dormitory, they each begin disappearing one by one. Fred Chamberlain, a security guard on campus, was the first to find a body. It wasn’t one of the missing students, it was a professor of computer science, his eyes plucked from his head and a strange message blinked on his computer screen: स्वातन्य On Thin Ice Some things are better left forgotten. When a group of archaeologists find what appears to be the remains of a massive, undiscovered dinosaur frozen in the ice of the Arctic, they begin the arduous process of recovering the fossils. When they begin to chip away at the ice, they find that there are other things hidden within, dark shadows which haunt the minds of those involved, eventually driving one of them to murder. Agent’s notes: Specialist in Plausible Deniability and Psychological Operations Writing sample: Teddy sipped the brandy at his side as he starred at the blinking icon on the screen in front of him. The fruity subtlety of the liquor played on his tongue, as notes of oak came and went. A stack of Manila folders sat sprawled out on the desk. The photos and papers within were incomplete, redacted, marked Top Secret; Do Not Disseminate. The information contained in the documents was hard, nigh impossible to believe – but it wasn’t Teddy’s job to understand it or to rationalize it. It was to take a tiny granule of the truth and turn it into a best selling a novel. A novel that would slowly seep into pop culture, maybe even get a movie deal. It had to be popular enough that if someone stumbled upon the truth they would be ridiculed and laughed at. For example, if someone reported a child killing clown living in the sewers, they’d be accused of reading It a few too many times. That’s the point. Hide the truth in plain sight. Teddy took another drink and thought about one of the classes he took at Tufts – Turn of the Century American Literature. The professor had specialized in Mark Twain. “Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.” The secrets hidden away by the Department of the Interior were haunting and left the world in a state of implausibility. Monsters from folklore, occult terrors, and the secrets buried and lost by long lost civilizations and forgotten continents better left to the dead. Things society wasn’t ready to handle, things society had to be protected from – and that was Teddy’s job. To investigate these secrets, find a tiny bit of digestible truth in it and serve it to society as a gluttonous meal. Oh man. Yes. I've also never played this (Delta Green specifically) before, but I'm an avid lover of the genre and have experimented with Call of Cthulhu characters (only ever managed to play one game).

With a quick slide along the compartment wall to squeeze by other sailors in the middle of their own phone calls, Frankie hustled out of there and headed amidships, towards sickbay. Once she reached her commanding officer's office, she halted long enough to check her uniform was in proper condition before knocking. She heard the call to enter and unlatched the door. "You wanted to see me, sir?" "Come in, Milford." Her C.O. gave her a tight smile and nodded at the door behind her; she closed it. Neither were great signs. If he was tense, it was either bad news or something else was going wrong in sickbay. "At ease." He opened a file on his desk and glanced at it before looking back up at her. "Your brother's medal ceremony is on the 23rd, correct?" Small talk it was, then. All that information was sitting in front of him. "Yessir." He nodded once again. "Your leave has been approved, but you won't be able to fly out until twenty-one hundred the 21st. You'll have an extra day with your family afterward, however, and then transport will be easier to arrange. First things first, however." First things? Frankie tensed. "This report from the surgery." He tapped a different folder, that one clearly marked classified. "Trenton was impressed with your performance, but I expect exact details in your report, not speculation. If you can't ascertain the source of an injury, say so. This part about an octopus not being the proper dimensions for the wound is all conjecture. Are you a marine biologist on the side that I haven't been informed about?" It was a rhetorical question and she knew it. Still, she straightened under his reprimand. "You're lucky this wasn't part of the original notes that went on with him. I want it rewritten immediately. There's no place for this sort of wannabe investigative medicine in my sickbay. Understood?" He fixed her with a stern look that pinned her in place. "Sir. Yes, sir! Right away, sir." Frankie sighed inwardly. She should've known. Still, she knew the operating doctor had been just as startled by the wound as she had been. Something had attacked the chief petty officer, and it hadn't been something she'd seen before. Deep sea jellyfish, potentially, or some kind of strange octopus, but not on the coast where the team had been medevacked from. If she knew where he'd ended up, she might follow up to see what came of it, but there was a certain lack of forthrightness to the group that came with classified operations, so she knew she shouldn't even ask.

Oh yeah that's not a problem. I just assumed modern meant today but the dates can all just be dialed backwards as appropriate.

Hey all: Quick update as I was not clear on the original post: Your character would be what is know as a friendly. You do not know of anything called Delta Green. You may have suspicions... maybe... but nothing more. @Aethera: Your corpsman might have noticed the removal of patients and thought it was suspicious... but nothing more than that.

Also the Veteran of the team is a doctor. I have zero issue with you being a Corpsman as well. I care only for the story and the writing.

@wodine: I love your app! I'm interested how Teddy will handle leaving his comfortable desk and being thrown to the wolves. The plan is for everyone to have a little bit of an introduction to get the ball rolling and then assemble the team.

I'm assuming the profile "Agent's Notes" are written from the perspective of whomever Delta Green sent to do the background check, not from Frankie's point of view. I've italicized the note about Delta Green so it's separated somewhat.

I'm good with being a corpsman with a veteran doctor. Probably should've asked, but oh well. She's definitely trained to be in the field (even if she's more support at "present") so she's not a civilian. Hopefully that will be enough difference between the characters.

Out of curiosity, who's playing the veteran MD?
