Critical Mass... Enough big names (Warner Brothers, Apple, Block buster) put their weight behind Blueray. Toshiba saw the writting on the wall and instead of fighting on like Sony did with BetaMax they decided to cut bait.

That's what you get for being an early adopter. Should have gotten a Play Station 3. It is a decent BlueRay Player and less expensive than most BlueRays. If BlueRay ended up losing you could have still had a gaming machine. When the PS3 came out I was out shopping the week after X-mas at Best Buy. I saw 6 PS3's on the rack (no Wii's which is what I was there for), I saw a man in check out with a 1000 dollar blue ray. He could have saved $400 with the PS3....

Your HD-DVD Player is as good as a boat ancor. It's a shame because from a data perspective, HD-DVD had a higher capacity.
