AlahkYour people worshipped us once...

The hiss had sounded so foreign to Alahk that at first he thought he misheard, but no. Deep down he knew exactly what the yuan-ti had said, and it shook him to his core. The aarakocra worshipped the wind, the sky, and the elemental plane of air. Freedom was their ideal. How could they ever have worshipped these disgusting snake-people?

The centaur's spear bursting from the yuan-ti's chest broke him from his thoughts. He cawed in thanks and acknowledgment, then whirled in the air to find his next opponent. The others would catch up.

As he sped through the sky, riding gusts and twirling around trees, he fell into the battle trance that had served him so well in the past. No doubts or fears. Just his blade in his hand and opponents all around him. The monk landed in a flurry of feathers beside the nearest centaur, snapping one clawed foot out in a kick, then drawing it back in and swirling into a two-handed crescent strike with his axe.

Standard: Two-handed battleaxe attack on Y15 for 6 damage.

Fumbling for his weapon on the ground Brom finally gives up and trudges forward without his warhammer. As he clears the trees that were previously providing cover he scans the battlefield. Instantly he see the centaur to his right being attacked by a large number of Yuan-ti.

Brom mumbles "Oh no ye don't you slithering snakes." He reaches his right arm out and opens his palm to the heavens and shouts "By the might of Muamman Duathal I strike ye down with divine energy!". He then closes his fingers and jerks his arm like he is throwing a javelin at the creature.

A flash of light streaks towards the creature and hits it solidly in the torso.

The cut on Pavels arm hurt, he was surprised the Yuan Ti survived his initial attack. Pavel had thought he had done lethal damage, targeting areas that would kill a man. Yuan Ti aren't exactly human, Pavel would have to adjust his strategy. When it came to sword play the Yuan Ti seemed more than capable. His foe reacted quickly, correctly and wasn't scared by the surprise assault. Doing his best to keep the enemy at bay, Pavel lunged with his rapier missing.

The lunge was a feint, unseen the spectral hand took Pavels last vial of acid out of his belt pouch and deftly deposited the glass vial in the Yuan Tis cloak. The next time Pavel attacked he would shatter the vial.

With the cat properly out of the bag, Red advances beyond the treeline, quickly surveying the battle before her. The centaurs to her right had overextended, and were outnumbered in melee combat. Worse, their lack of mobility would make them easy pincushions for the ranged snakefolk; add the poison-tipped arrows on top of that, and the centaurs would stand very little chance.

At the same time, she would have to push Allouette hard to reach them before they could fire a shot off, and she wouldn't be ready to fight when she did. She might be able to draw some fire away from the centaurs... but she'd be insane to try it.

You're just fixing on having some bard sing about your idiotic death in battle, aren't you? the wizard berates herself, but slings her bow and spurs the mount forward regardless. A card flips into existence, then vanishes just as quickly in a small puff of smoke.

"Well, come on you reptilian tarts!" she yells at the top of her lungs, her form little more than a flicker as Allouette barrels across the field. "The mad woman in red is here for you, and she's stood against lizards MUCH larger than this lot!"

Not for very long, she would have reminded herself; alas, the rush of adrenaline has once again drowned out rational thought.

Alahk flew off to help the Centaurs, Bromkuhn following shortly after. An axe was used by the Aarakocra, while the dwarf turned to magic. Pavel faced off with the Yuan-Ti, missing his blow but placing a vial of acid in the snake-man's pocket. Maxine rode out into the middle of the field and did her best to create a distraction.

The man facing off with Pavel stared deep into the rogue's eyes, then whispered to him, "The forest creatures are not your friends, why don't you just run away?"

From the middle of the battlefield, Maxine could see what was happening more clearly. The Centaurs to her left had overwhelmed the Yuan-Ti that stood there. To her right, they were not faring so well. The one that Bromkuhn had hit with a Guiding Bolt was brought down. Following that, two arrows sunk deep into the Centaurs hindquarters, causing the creature to drop mid-step. The Centaur directly in front of Max might have suffered a similar fate, but the arrows which would have been intended for him flew at Max instead. The spell of protection she had used for protection served its purpose, and neither arrow found its target.

Alahk's chosen foe was teamed up on by the Soldier's allies, and two pikes drove through the Yuan-Ti's chest, marking another victim.

The light from Brom's spell streaks across the battlefield and rams right into Y13. The Yuan-ti goes down immediately and does not move. Satisfied with the result, shocked almost, Brom lets out a triumphant "Muamman's belly that was awesome!"

the dwarf then turns to see a centaur right in front of him being taken apart by a group of 4 Yuan-ti's. Brom prods his horse forward a bit, almost near to Red (at J/22 on the map) and unleashes another spell towards the creatures. This time the dwarf just yells in common "You there... yes, you two. Grovel you beasts!"

Pavel was caught of guard by the comment. He had just tried to kill the Yuan Ti and it had reacted by trying to reason with him. The centaurs certainly weren't their friends, moments ago one of them had tried to feather them. Why exactly were they helping them again?

Pavel had to shake his head to clear his thoughts. He remembered the strange alter and Stiles sacrifice of the dead dragon. The centaur might not be his friends but these creatures were most certainly his enemy. Pavel was tired of running and guessing, it was time to get some answers.

Stabbing again with the rapier Pavel missed the strike but his previous plan was all ready in action. The spectral hand crushed the vial of acid, releasing the burning chemical down the Yuan Ti's back.

AlahkAlahk knew next to nothing about centaurs, but the longer the battle went on, the more respect he had for them. These were noble warriors, powerful guardians of the forest. They owned their earthly domain the same way that the Aarakocra owned the skies, and it seemed on rare occasions the two peoples could fight in concert.

The monk exploded up and over the slain yuan-ti in full flight. He came at the next lizardman from out of the sun, pulling his axe back and letting it fly from his hands in what would prove to be an ill-advised maneuver. The feathered blade sank into the earth beneath his enemy's feet. Alahk dropped down beside it a moment later, raking one claw across a scaled shoulder while the other searched for his weapon's hilt.

Red has to pause briefly as she takes cover, ensuring that she's remained unscathed—it feels like something of a miracle that she has. Though her plan, if one could call it that, is faring far better than she could have hoped, it has only proven somewhat successful. The centaur to her right had extended too far; there was little she could have done to prevent his fall, though a pang of guilt clutches at her heart as he's brought down.

Making matters worse, that group of yuan-ti was now free to focus their efforts elsewhere—and she would be a likely target. A quick glance to the left assures the wizard that the far group of centaurs are now also free to redirect their attention, but... she's caught in the middle, and there's no telling who will reach her first.

Well, there was still one centaur here she could stand with, should he survive long enough to stand with her. Drawing even more magic from within, she conjures four cards into her hand. Each rises into the air and curves into a glowing white ball, and at once, all four rocket forward, arcing around the centaur and striking his foes, two blasts for each.

With few other remaining options, she draws her rapier and charges forward, with a yell that signifies in no small terms that she is prepared to fight.

Bromkuhn rode forward by Red, and used his magic to command two of the snake-men to grovel. They didn't seem to immediately respond to his command. Rather, they looked at each other briefly before turning attention to the dwarf and moving forward a few steps. "Oh, we will grovel," the larger of the two responded in a hissing voice, "at your corpse!" The other completed the sentence. Two arrows flew towards Brom's head. While the nature of the Yuan-Ti, it seemed, made them somewhat resistant to magic, the armor of the dwarf made him somewhat resistant to piercing arrows. Both arrows pinged harmlessly off Brom's shoulder plates.

Pavel's blade-work was not at his best, but it didn't matter. He made up for that with planning and tricks. Shaking off the Yuan-Ti's suggestion, he cooly broke the vial of acid he had planted on the man before. As it broke, the liquid burned intensely, causing a death that was as horrific as it was smelly.

Alahk lead the charge, flanked by two Centaurs, against the next Yuan-Ti in line. His Battleaxe bit the dust, but his talons drew blood. It was enough for the two horse-men at his sides to charge in and finish the job.

Red continued to be fearless. Pairs of magic missiles assailed the Yuan-Ti to her north, before she charged in on her horse. Some might have called it a suicide mission, but the Centaur with whom she now stood side-by-side with saw it as the move of a guardian angel. Her spell had not killed either creature, but a pike by the Centaur finished on off. The other turned his attention to Red, and tried fruitlessly to hit the blurry image of the near-insane woman.

The remaining Centaurs charged across the battlefield to bring aid as quickly as the could. Meanwhile, the remaining Yuan-Ti focused their arrow fire on one of the Centaurs flanking Alahk. All three arrows hit, and Alahk heard the creature gasp something incomprehensible as he fell dead.

AlahkThe winged battleaxe, dark with dirt and blood, ripped from the ground at the same time the centaur to Alahk's left hit it. He let out a screech for the noble creature, but it was drowned out by the roar and thundering of hooves of the centaur that remained at his side. For once, he didn't take flight. He needed a more direct path to the slant-eyed killers.

The monk charged, three-clawed talons kicking up sod and axe trailing behind like a rudder. As the nearest yuan-ti fumbled for a blade, Alahk crouched low and brought his weapon up in a sweeping crescent. It cut through his opponent's scaled underbelly, sending a small gout of snake-blood into the air.

The Yuan-ti did not seem to be negatively affected by the commands that Brom was shouting at them, either from performing the action that he implied nor by being overly upset. If anything, the cleric sensed that the yelling from him enraged the creatures to focus on him with their attacks. Brom very quickly found 2 arrows speeding back directly at him but he quickly rotated his upper torso this way and that so that they were only glancing blows which deflected off of his armor. "That's right... you can't hit me you budgeons!!". The dwarf had no idea what a budgeon was but it was the first insult that came to mind.

Enraged himself with the idea that the beasts would not accept the cleric's control Brom moved the horse towards the 2 creatures and drew his warhammer. Just a second before swinging the steel weapon with a cross body blow towards the Yuan-ti to his left Brom made a motion with his left hand that was as if he was grabbing an unseen hilt of another warhammer and made a motion with the empty left hand to joust it towards the other Yuan-ti that was resistant to his magic. "May the spirit of Muamman Duathal strike you himself if I cannot!" As the steel warhammer came down in an arc towards his left a floating spiritual warhammer sprouted from his left hand and came down towards his right. The steel did not connect but the force of the heavens must be good this day as the created weapon struck home soundly.

The smell from the melting Yuan Ti was almost overpowering. Pavel covered his nose and looked down at the scimitar lying at his feet. It seemed more to Pavels taste than the long sword he was holding. Sheathing the long sword, Pavel took the scimitar and sword belt from the Yuan Ti. The more blades the merrier they always say. Moving down the tree line Pavel took cover in the trees and hide behind the branches. He yelled out to the battlefield, hoping his friends would remember the final part of plan. "REMEMBER! TAKE ONE ALIVE!"

"Right!" shouts Red in return, Pavel's voice having pierced through the woman's narrowed, adrenaline-fueled focus. She had forgotten entirely, a trait quite unlike her. "Get to safety!" she adds to the centaur she just rescued, urging him to seek protection if he needs it—and drawing the attention of the nearest yuan-ti away from him.

The reptilian combatant is weakened, and looks like it might make an easy target to incapacitate. Red draws Allouette in a tight circle, and then lunges forward, trying to catch the yuan-ti in a less vulnerable area as he dodges the horse. The tip of the rapier lands on the creature's thigh, but doesn't have the necessary power to penetrate the thick scales.

The skirmish ended in a rapid blur. Pavel's request to leave one of the Yuan-Ti alive fell on deaf ears with the Centaurs. They were after blood, and wanted revenge for their fallen allies. Pikes and hoves made quick work of the few that were left after the Soldiers of Rythey had done their part to aid in the battle. With only corpses of the Yuan-Ti now littering the ground, along with a few of the Centaurs, the forest creatures now turned their attention to the Soldiers. (If they could still be called that, after disobeying the orders of their superior officer).

One of the Centaurs turned to Pavel, leaving his weapon in a non-offensive grip, he spoke with haste. His tone was not pleasant, but an arrow sticking from his hindquarters must have been painful, and aided in the creatures bad temperament. "Why would you want to leave these invaders alive? They have no mercy for us!"

Another spoke to Max, the wild woman who had saved him through her magic and bravery. "You saved my life Magi. Honor and thanks I give thee." He bent his two front legs to bow to Maxine, showing gratitude and respect.

Alahk and Brom were treated with similar respect. The Centaurs had not expected any aid in this battle, and though the Soldier's numbers were few, they had made a difference in this small skirmish, one of many taking place, in the Sivery Woods.
