Questions answered. Possibly with too much text, but I hid it under nice, tidy spoiler buttons.

Added a bit about character creation at the bottom. Just wanted to put it somewhere so I could throw the piece scrap paper away

Pardon the inconsistencies lore-wise as this would be my first foray into WH territory, but please do let me know how I can improve or if something needs to be changed.

Avandir
right-aligned image
Avandir of the Aeldari Craftworld Ul-Khar
Name: Avandir
Race: Eldar
Gender: Male
Archetype: Eldar Warlock (Tier 3)

Appearance: Deep, sunken dark red eyes, high brows, sharp nose and ears framed in an equally sharp and angular face do not usually make a friendly visage in one of the Eldar, but somehow Avandir gives off that impression. Towering over others at well over 6'6"six feet, and built with lean muscle, the warlock can still pass off as human provided he shed his usual accoutrement of black wraithbone armor and helm. He keeps his long, straight black hair tied in an ergonomically efficient knot most of the time. For the quick and keen observer, he walks at a brisk pace (even for Aeldari) with a slight limp, implying a long-but-never-quite-healed injury.

Personality: Although it would be rare for Avandir to truly smile, striving always to maintain a tight rein on his emotions, his nature is unlike most of the Aeldari warlocks, who seem to revel in war and battle. Violence can be a necessity; a means to and end, but not the central pursuit in life. He aims to become a master in warfare as well as walk the Path of the Seer faithfully, straying neither to the right nor left, but taking pleasure in death or killing of enemies is a dangerous state of mind.

Avandir has an unspoken and often denied belief that the Aeldari are a truly superior race, but this translates usually to a desire to extend help or wisdom to other races (which can be received in different ways). As such, he is unlike most of his kin in their outright refusal to work with or even interact with other species.

Though he has only known little about The Whispering God, Avandir could be said to have some sympathy to the Ynnari, though he would never discuss this with another of his race, unless they have his utmost confidence.

Background: Originally from the Craftworld or whatever it is that crashed on that warp-spat planetUl-Khar, Avandir has strayed far from his home ship and is deep in the Heartlands for two reasons. Firstly, the ruling council of the surviving Eldar are seeking for help, though they would never openly admit to this. They have realized that sooner or later, the planet that they have crashed into would face destruction from the hidden effects of the Warp upon its core. Slowly but surely, they have started to notice that the influence of Chaos was corrupting both the planet and its inhabitants. How long before they too would be consumed? For their people to survive, measures have to be taken to form (albeit temporary, at least) alliances and ensure a place where the Eldar may thrive again. Thus they have dispatched a handful of individuals to obtain favors and possible prospects for a new habitation. Some have gone to the Reach to seek out Jakel Varonius, a rogue upstart who has been steadily gaining power and influence in the region. Avandir was sent to the Heartlands to ingratiate himself with the self-proclaimed Lord Militant Tyleria Fylamon, who seemed to be willing enough to grant rewards to those who could increase her own foothold and tenure.

Unbeknowst to the ruling council, Avandir has reasons of his own to seek out Tyleria. Recently, the eldar had been seeing visions, while he slept and even during his waking hours. Mostly a jumble of images and future memories swirling and jumping incoherently, but the worst part were the whispers. He couldn't really tell if he was hearing audible voices, or it was just in his head. Based on what he could piece together, the voice belong to Ynnead, a mysterious deity-like being who was closely linked to those of the departed Eldar placed in the infinity circuits. What It was saying though was what was deeply troubling. It talked of impending doom, then salvation for his people, through the means of the lesser races. It talked of a new Path; one that would involve great sacrifice. Whose, Avandir knew not; it all sounded so... heretical. And yet, a part of him was convinced that in order to save his people, he should at least attempt to find out if there was any truth to his visions.

Questions, questions

A hat falls into the ring...

Name: Eaorgus (YORE-gus)
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Archetype: Low-down, dirty, rotten, and occasionally even unpleasant Scum (Desperado)

Appearance: Young, well-formed and lanky, not overly strong. Expressive blue eyes that can be icy and piercing at times, or sparkle with merriment at others. His clothing is generally a hodgepodge of 'what's on hand' added to 'whatever has caught his fancy recently'... Though generally well-made and clean articles are added to the ensemble. He wears his weapons easily, as though used to them... Although his hands do not gravitate towards them with the healthy semi-paranoia of a true fighting man.

Personality: Eaorgus has an irreverent streak that can work against him at times. He's engaging to talk to, a good listener (knowledge is power after all) and surprisingly insightful if he chooses to comment. He carries himself with the confidence of one who has little to prove to others, having tested his own abilities already. His irreverent streak extends to furniture oddly enough, as he seldom uses it in the traditional manner, preferring the arm of the couch, sitting on the bar rather than at it, and the like. He's been in enough fights and 'situations' to know when it's time to cut the games and get to work.

Background: Born as the inevitable result of a gang being on the losing side of a fight, his mother died when he was only a few years old. The gang was close-knit, and he was treated as a mascot for his early childhood. Attentive and sociable if not always agreeable, he quickly went from mascot to helper, showing a natural affinity for figuring things out. As the gang came back into power he was promoted to full member, thinking and maneuvering his way out of problems he couldn't overcome with brawn. He left the gang almost amicably (old leader died, new leader didn't like him, Eaorgus knew the questionable circumstances of the old leader's death. It seemed like a good arrangement).

On his own, he found no shortage of people and groups in need of his particular skills... He was kept somewhat safe by his former affiliation with the gang, and that people weren't quite sure he had truly left. He took no pains to disabuse them of the notion for obvious reasons. Instead of amassing personal wealth or indulging in hedonism when successful, Eaorgus invested in social capital... Secrets, favors, contacts, goodwill... To the point now where he refers off minor jobs to those in his 'network' for a nominal fee, choosing to personally pursue only the very challenging or rewarding. Though secretly he does do some freebies for folks who seem to need it. Whether from an abnormally warm heart, or the knowledge that small favors could buy loyalty more surely than currency, is anyone's guess.

Questions:

You made a bad decision in the months before leaving the gang, one that hangs over your head to this day. What was it and how do you expect to blow up in your face?

There are people that are off-limits to even a successful gang's daily activities. Rival gang leaders, certain suppliers and dealers, government officials, higher-class criminals, and those who make a donative for exemption. I don't know which the guy was, but he was a first-rate scumbag... Slumming on our turf, carrying on like he owned the whole Hive and there was nothing anyone could do about it. It started as a few harmless pranks to get a rise out of the guy, make him look like a fool... We had hoped he would get the hint and leave. Idiot got violent instead, started taking it out on folks who truly couldn't fight back. After a few days of this, me and a some of the lads escorted the guy to a convenient alley and spent time explaining life to him in a civilized manner. Bruises, a little blood, really workaday stuff.

We didn't see him after that. But there's enough out there for someone to do his sums... Grease the right palms and have the parts of the picture that they don't know, filled in. That happens, it could be bad for me, or they could go after the gang. Those guys are still my family even if a bit estranged. I don't have a lot to go on, and I can't get a handle on the guy himself. No one knows anything, no one is saying anything. So I don't even know what direction it's coming from, or when. But I'm pretty sure it's coming.

Now, at least I have a rule of figuring out who I'm up against before things get really ragged. So there's that.

Who in your 'network' do you pass along missing children cases to? Tell me what happened the last time they did a job for you.

So many reasons a kid could go missing in the hive. Its a ton of ground to cover and frankly most of the little anklebiters look alike to me. That's pretty prevalent in the adult world, so a lot of people don't pay them any mind. Most jobs of that sort he hands off to Sister Talia... A former orphan now working at a government orphanage. She was in and out of a lot of the bad places where 'disappeared' kids end up, had the good fortune to be caught by the authorities and pulled off of the cycle of the streets. She's loyal and 'has religion', but she's motivated to help kids even if the government won't... And that takes resources, contacts. Or a clandestine donative to her underfunded place of employment.

The last job he referred off was the disappearance of a government official's child. Kidnapping suspected. Talia was as thorough as ever, sifting through various black market outlets, shady drug pushers, and forced-labor considerations, eventually finding the boy holed up with a few other castoffs in a derelict building. She took the kid without a fight, but mistrusted the look of hunted dread in his eyes when she told him he'd be taken home.

Most wouldn't have looked too close, or cared to figure out what it meant. A shower and some fresh clothes later, the boy was relating his story over a meal. Essentially, father abusive to him and his mother, kid powerless, left and didn't want to go back. A conversation with Eaorgus ensued... Certain favors were called in or given out. Within the week the man's crimes were known to the government, along with possibly fabricated evidence of both embezzlement and heresy. Prison for him, the wife's brother took in her and the boy. Just another day in the Hive...

Query 2
Zwingli

<< The Craftworld in question is Ul-Khar, and the planet it crashed into is Troilus. Think a desolate, empty hive world now populated by stranded Eldar >>

Who still lives on Ul-Khar that you care about? What was the last thing you said to them before you left?

What has your most unpleasant experience been since entering Imperial space? What experience left you most impressed with humanity?

Cool. As stated, noon today is the cutoff for new applications but I will be mostly away from the site over the weekend so feel free to use that time to answer the questions or make any final tweaks to your apps. I should be able to sit down on Sunday and give them all a final, thorough read.

And the last of the acceptances has been sent. That took longer than anticipated. There were so many interesting stories to be told. In the event I need replacements early I will come back to the last set of applicants first.
