Hi all! I’m brightfame - new here and looking forward to trying out some play by post RP (which I only learned was a thing last week). I played quite a few TTRPGs in high school (mainly 3.5e DnD) but got out of the habit in college. I’ve had the itch again for the past few years after I started listening to a couple of actual play podcasts. Any other Friends at the Table fans here?

I’m hoping play by post might be easier to fit into a busy schedule and looking forward to trying out a new player solo game after I’ve made my first four posts.

Besides that, cool that you signed up and made an introduction post. Haven't listened to the 'Friends at the Table' podcast, but I have to confess I barely find the time to listen to podcasts at all.

Clever to get started with the New Player Solo adventure, best way to learn, have you decided what system you want to give a try yet?

I agree with Choco that starting off with the New Player Solo Game is an awesome way to get past the learning curve of the logistics of how things work here. I highly recommend it.

I also want to confirm that this is an excellent place for those who want to play but have limited time and dynamic schedules that are prohibitive to regular game night in person.

Not famous yet but there's always time! Not even a particularly good backstory - it's just the meaning of my IRL name. Looking at the games currently open for applications it seems like 5e would be a good choice. I quite like the feel of PbtA games I've listened to but those seem to be very few and far between here. I've also been hearing a lot more people talking about pathfinder of late so maybe at some point I'll give that a go...

Well I was the only one who owned any of the books so I usually ended up DMing - don't think I was ever any good though because I don't remember a single cinematic moment I ever managed to create for my players!

Hi - this is a great place to get a little of what you like and a lot of what you fancy. Even not having the rules isn't always a barrier to getting into a game, sometimes the free starter rules can be enough so look for fun as well as rules (this is my goto excuse to buy more books)

 

• New game adverts are like the weather in that there might be a pattern and overall consistency to them, but like the weather droughts and floods can and do occur.
• Real Life is also like the weather so leave yourself time for the expected and unexpected, don't overextend yourself and the same applies to those you play with.
• Games can get lots of applications and you will be passed over, treat it as a bad roll and move on
• The solo game is a great intro - do one. You can also join other games early on but be upfront about your experience
• Some real soloists play Ironsworn Give it a whirl...
• Wow - even more free fun what are you waiting for
• What even more gaming opportunities
• Give XP when you see or read something you like (the scales icon on the top right of every post)
• The staff are kind but human so don't ignore the rules, smackdowns can be public
