Garkin's Tower (Arcana) Garkin Sallier is a retired adventurer who decided to settle in Devonsport. He quickly grew bored with the quiet life and decided to teach what he had learned. Using some of his own finances, as well as funding from the Morgan and Vellious families, he started Garkin's Academy. At first, he only taught a few of the town's best and brightest, but when some of these began teaching themselves he expanded his academy. Now it is Garkin's Tower, and he serves as a headmaster. Most, though not all, of the current teachers there are his former pupils, and it has expanded the curriculum beyond the fields of arcane magic.

Dragons (Arcana) Few, if any, know where dragons actually came from, but it is known that they aren't from this plane. What dragons have been willing to talk simply say they came from "elsewhere". Some have bred with local wildlife, creating lesser dragons of various kinds, but the pure stock are called true dragons. Dragons come in several varieties, and are generally classified by scale groupings. Metallic dragons are usually benevolent, while chromatic dragons are typically malevolent. While these are the most common groupings, there exist other types of true dragons in the world, with various temperaments. Almost all dragons are reclusive; all are territorial, and will attack any other dragon in their domain - this excludes mating seasons.

Elemental Binding (Arcana, Nature) Previously limited to certain constructs, elemental binding has fairly recently become a more widespread practice. The procedure fuses an elemental to an item, using it as a power source. There are two primary methods to this: forced binding, and contract binding. Forced binding captures the elemental as a slave, and uses it against its will. It is typically only practiced by evil or ignorant spellcasters. If the item imprisoning the elemental is broken, it is freed, and usually angry. Contract binding, on the other hand, offers a trade - the elemental is bound in service for a period of time, but in return the spellcaster does some favor for it. The exact terms must be negotiated. Contract binding has a number of advantages and disadvantages compared to forced binding. The disadvantages are that it is more costly to the binder, and the effect is limited to the term of service (though this may be longer than the binder's life span). On the other hand, because the elemental is a willing participant in the binding process, the bound item is harder to break and easier to repair, and breaking will not result in the freeing of an angry elemental.

Architecture (Engineering) The oldest buildings in both Devonsport and Threefrogs are of the same style.

World Geography (Geography) The world contains three large continents, and two smaller ones. Tholbia The largest continent (and the one you live on) is Tholbia. Tholbia has a variety of ecosystems, with frozen wastes in the far north, forests and wetlands in the northwest, large plains in the south, and a desert in the east. West of Tholbia is the Silver Sea, which gives way to the Delphian Ocean to the south of the continent. To the east of Tholbia is the Tumeran Ocean. Adzea Across the Silver Sea, the continent of Adzea is primarily forested areas, with a tall chain of mountains running down the center.

Threefrogs (Local: Threefrogs) Threefrogs is a quiet fishing village, isolated from the rest of the world - and the locals prefer it that way. Aside from the occasional trader from the city of Devonsport, four days south on horseback, Threefrogs gets few visitors. It sits on the eastern shore of the Silver Sea, just where the Taerin Forests to the south start giving way to the brackish swamps of the Lady's Glade to the north and west - which every Threefrogger knows is the domain of the Lady of the Deeper Ponds, a mostly harmless fey ruler who nonetheless doesn't like trespassers in her realm. Locals don't know why the village is named as it is, and it is considered a bit of village humor that even those wandering scholars, the LaCroixes, aren't sure. Threefrogs is overseen by a village council; no specific laws exist for determining who is on the council in a village this small. Generally, if most of the people consider you to be on the council, then you are on the council. Currently, the most respected councilman is Tabor Ganfeld, the local blacksmith. The council has appointed a constable to oversee the peace in the village - a man named Pindle Traskin. Traskin tends to be a hardcase, and is often annoyed that the council pardons so many people for the minor transgressions that do happen here. Still, Traskin is known to be fair, and the council values his honesty. The bulk of Threefroggers are either fishermen, who ply their trade in the shallow coastal waters, or farmers who eke out a living in cleared land in the nearby forest. Extra food is the primary export that brings merchants along the road from Devonsport. As that is the only way in or out of the village, nobody simply passes through Threefrogs.
