[Game Thread] Chapter 1: A Choice To Make

Fight! In a furious assault, Mezio strikes out at the goblin next to him. Sadly, he has not been trained in the ways of barbarians, and the rage simply costs him the focus he needs to hit home. Meanwhile, his spell manages to ensnare two of the goblins still in the area. Drubner runs up behind Edi, throwing a small ceramic vial... which promptly blossoms into a good-sized explosion, catching each goblin in the front two rows. One of the goblins manages to duck behind one of his fellows, avoiding the full effects of the bomb, but the rest are badly injured. The goblins look quite scared now - losing one of their number wasn't too upsetting, but having most of their force badly injured is scary as hell! Thomas leaps forward to stand next to Drubner. Elena charges and cleaves into the chest of the goblin nearest her - where Mezio failed, she dropped the creature. It is on the ground bleeding.

Mechanics Mezio attacks and misses. Two goblins fail their reflex saves and are entangled. Drubner moves 15' south and throws a bomb at the square 10' south of Mezio, using a feat to expand the blast radius by one square to catch the farthest goblin in the front row. All but one goblin (the magenta one) fail their saves and take 5 fire damage; the magenta one takes 2. Thomas double-moves south, and a little southeast.

Comments It seems based on what corporeal said, Drubner will be using plan 3. One of the goblins pulls a ceramic vial and aims at Drubner... just kidding!

Seeing Kinnon fall so quickly after Alessandra moved Edi beyond rage and into shock. He hadn't expected his comrades in arms to fall so quickly. Again, being unable to do anything causes Edi mental anguish. 'Two lost already and we're only fighting goblins...how could we possibly be of any help against the greater evil we're charged with confronting?' he thinks.

The shock - combined with the unexpected explosion - causes his second attempt at fighting off the goblins to be lackluster compared to his first.

Elana rips her sword away from the goblin, bringing a trail of blood and the rush of battle with it. She looks up at the group of goblins prepared to clash with the rest of the party. Her paladin training, which had remained dormant for years, kicked in. As the goblin fell to the ground before her, clutching at its ruined chest to stop the blood, Elana moves past it and charges the group.

Mechanics Elana moves past the goblin and M2 and moves beside E2 and attacks

Fight! Edi swings at the goblin before him, but misses. Mardigan still seems at a loss, and decides to simply hold the line. One injured goblin runs, screaming, south.

Mechanics Edi attacks and misses. Mardigan takes Total Defense. The blue goblin double moves straight south, six squares.

Comments Yeah, I know. I didn't update the map. Because only one goblin moved, and it seemed like an awful lot of work for that when I have a headache. I might be reevaluating Mardigan's continued absence soon...

Sakura continues to watch in awe at the violence around her. She is no stranger to it, but being in the middle of it is entirely differant from watching from the sidelines.

Seeing a goblin run off south she points at it, not wanting it to inform others of what happened here and perhaps set up more ambushes. A bolt of pure force flies from her hand,

striking the goblin in the back. Its a weak blow, but its all she can really do.

Drubner grinned with grim satisfaction, watching the effects of his bomb. If he had the time or inclination he would have pondered ways to improve the results. That would have to wait however.

Drubner's free hand gripped the shaft of his spear and slipped down it's length to raise it back into a fighting stance. He took careful aim before striking at a goblin in ahead of him.

"Try to capture one of them alive," he yelled above the noise of the fight and added, much quieter, "I'd like to have a 'talk' with one of them."

OOC Drubner uses a move action to fully grasp his spear and makes an attack.

Fight! Sakura blasts the fleeing goblin with a spell. However, that is hardly the only goblin that decides to retreat. The three that are not entangled flee south, crying. The one of Mardigan drops to the ground, squealing for mercy, while his companion on the right struggles to free himself from the entangling vines.

Mechanics Sakura casts magic missile, hitting the fleeing goblin. Unentangled standing goblins withdraw south. The goblin south of Mardigan pleas for mercy. East of him, the goblin takes two move actions, breaking free on the second.

Comments I apologize. I honestly didn't even realize I hadn't updated Tuesday until now.

OOC Since his goblin got away, Drubner will shift 10 ft. to the right, behind Kinnon's corpse, as one move action and fully grasp his spear as another. If the goblin south of Kinnon tries to run he'll AoO it.

OOC Two problems: one, a longspear is a reach weapon, but a spear isn't, so you'd have to be standing in the square Kinnon's corpse is in to AoO. Second, the Withdraw action doesn't provoke AoO from the first square you leave, so if the goblin does that you won't get the attack anyhow. Spears can, however, be thrown, where longspears can't, and you could ready an action to do so if he withdraws.

OOC By spear, I did mean longspear. It's the only one Drubner has. I did forget that they were withdrawing though.

OOC My bad. You could still ready an action to get much the same effect, it'll just cost you your standard action now, which you don't seem to be taking anyway.

Mezio moved towards the outer ring of mobile vegetation, his gait stalking and predatory. With a growl, he flipped the spear in his grip, and flung it at the fleeing goblin, the air slicing as it traveled on its murderous path.

OOC Kran moves to the edge of the entangled, next to Alessandra's corpse, and throws a short spear at the closet fleeing goblin. Possible due to his trai "Strong Arm, Supple Wrist" which adds 10+ range to thrown weapons after moving ten feet.

OOC I suppose my post for my next turn is void now.

OOC Afraid so. But feel free to make another. Checking briefly, it looks like I'll be stopping on Thomas for tonight's update, so it's up to you whether you want to wait or not.

OOC Alright then. I'm alright with it because my attack rolls were kinda bad. So, would it be two actions to put away my sword and then draw my bow?
