Out of curiosity, now that the Advanced Player's Guide is out, is anything from the book available (apart from, obviously I suppose, our Oracle's stuff). There's a couple of "alternate class features" for polearm users I might be interested in retrofitting Brom into at this early juncture if you allow it, and I'm sure there's feats I'd be interested in though I can't name any off the bat.

Man, the other characters I'm currently playing are a gadgeteer genius, a well-spoken nobleman, and a doctor and damn if it isn't hard to switch gears for Brom. If one minute he's talking like a bumpkin and the next it sounds like his INT score just doubled, well, that's just difficulties on my end.

EDIT:

Oh right, the APG thing; the main thing I'm interested in is using one of the Fighter archetypes, which basically gut out the class features and replace them. Phalanx Soldier and Polearm Master are both semi-appropriate for Brom but the former gives up too much for too little and asks a bit of your allies to be effective, so I'm just going to list Polearm Master's changes.

Hopefully this is succinct enough, I can expound if necessary.

 

2nd Level: Bravery is exchanged for Pole Fighting, which allows an Immediate action to switch reach from 10 ft to 5 ft, and imposes a -4 penalty to attack rolls. An Immediate action is required to switch back. The penalty is reduced by 1 for every 4 levels past 2.

3rd Level: Armor Training is exchanged for Steadfast Pike, which grants a +1 bonus on readied attack rolls and attacks of opportunity so long as they're made with a polearm-type weapon. The bonus increases by 1 every four levels.

5th Level: Basically, most of these archetypes get a single maximum Weapon Training with their weapon type of choice. Polearm Master is no different.

9th Level: Weapon Training 2 is exchanged for Flexible Flanker, which lets the Polearm Master treat a square adjacent to him as his occupied square for flanking purposes, even if that square is isn't a legal square for him to be in.

13 Level: Weapon Training 3 is exchanged for Sweeping Fend, which lets the Polearm Master make bull rush or trip attempts with his polearm, but he takes a -4 to his CMB. (I'm honestly not 100% on the semi-strange combat maneuver rules; that may be better or worse than it sounds).

17th Level: Weapon Training 4 is exchanged for Step Aside, which allows the Polearm Master to take an Immediate action to 5FS in response to an enemy 5FS that leaves it in an adjacent square. The Polearm Master gets a +2 dodge bonus to AC vs that creature and loses 5 foot of movement from his next turn.

19th Level: Armor Master is exchanged Polearm Parry, which allows the Polearm Master to use an Immediate action in response to a melee attack made by a threatened opponent against an ally (or himself) to grant a +2 shield bonus to AC and DR 5/-. If the Polearm Master protects himself, the enemy can't be adjacent.

20th Level: Weapon Mastery is the same as the core rules, but must be applied to a spear or polearm. (oh noes)

Just in case you weren't aware (I wasn't for a while), Immediate actions are basically swift actions you can take out of turn. The main caveat is you lose your swift action for the coming turn.
