Valtyra's Voyage
"There you are, lass! I was wondering when you would get here. Are you ready to set sail?" |

Valtyra looks over her shoulder, expecting to see someone else. Seeing no one she turns back to the ship.
"Are, are you Captain Horace?" she asks tentatively. |

The man cocked an eyebrow.
"We met last week, lass. You paid me for fare to the mainland, remember? We need to set out with the tide." |

"I. Um. I just" Valtyra sighs and starts again. "The thing is, I thought we agreed that you would take me to the mainland. And, well, that um, boat, is a little small for a voyage of that length, right?" Valtyra realizes she is babbling and trails to an awkward halt.
She stares at the Captain in hopeless confusion. |

As Valtyra speaks, the captain's face fell until he was glaring at her by the end.
"Well. I'm sorry, lass. I was unaware you were an expert on all things naval. Unfortunately, there are no refunds." The captain turns away and begins to cast off by himself, turning every so often to throw an angry glance at Valtyra. |

Valtyra's face fell. She could feel herself starting to panic.
"Wait!" She cried out "Please! I didn't mean - I can't - you can't leave me here! I have to get off this island. Please." |

For a moment, it seemed as if the captain would leave Valtyra on the dock, but at the last moment he sighed and turned to her.
"If you...wanted to come...I'm going to the mainland whether you're on board or not and...well, you already paid..." |

Valtyra felt herself beginning to tear up.
"Oh thank you! Thank you, thank you so much!" She wiped at her eyes with her free hand as she wrestled her bag onto the boat. "Um. Where should I - " |

The captain seemed unsettled by Vatyra's tears.
"Just...just go to the room belowdecks. That's yours. We'll get underway immediately." |

"Right. Ok. Good. Yes." Valtyra started to climb into the boat. As she did, she tripped over the, well the side railing, and fell face first onto the deck.

The captain sighed, but tried to make it look like he didn't see it. As she made her way down the stairs, the captain cast off from the dock, the boat tipping a bit more than was comfortable. And with that, Valtyra left her home behind, sailing off into the unknown.
The first day at sea passed uneventfully, Valtyra surprised to find that the boat held up in the open sea. That was, until night fell and the storm came. ((Fortitude save)) |

Fan-tastic. I am clearly very sick.

Unable to help the captain on her deck, Valtyra was too sick to get out of bed. She heard the captain cursing like...well...a sailor on the deck. A fearsome amount of water came running down the stairs from the deck for hours until, late into the night, Valtyra heard a sharp crack from the deck, the captain's scream, and then silence (except the storm, of course).

Valtyra could feel the panic starting rising again. She fought to calm herself down. She crawled out of bed and toward the top deck.
"Captain? Captain Horace?" Her voice broke with anxiety and fear. |
