The man held out his hand and continued waiting with his hand outstretched, unmoving, waiting.

In the very bottom of her clearly ragged bag, Valtyra pulled out a single, gold piece. "Ha! See, I knew it was in here!" She cheerfully handed it over.
"So. What now?" |

The man took the gold coin and shrugged, walking away.
"Not my problem. Welcome to Waterdeep." |

"But. I. oh." Suddenly, Valtyra realized that neither of these men would be offering her any help. She would have to try and find her own way. She slowly bent to pick up her bag, and began walking into the city. This was going to be a lot harder then she had originally planned.

Valtyra found herself in the maze of streets making up the Docks District. People passed her quickly going about their way, carrying packages or leading mounts.

A pair of street thugs in a nearby alleyway seemed to be paying undue attention to Valtyra, though they had not moved from their spot, leaning against the side of a building.

One is a tall, thin man with an extremely pale face, cleaning under his fingernails with a thin blade. The other is almost impossibly large, both tall and wide. He has no weapons that can be seen, although it appears as if he wouldn't need them.

Valtyra had to stop herself from staring at the two gentlemen. She had known that not everyone in a large city would be friendly, and that some would even want to do her harm, but she had not expected to encounter any this soon. She had no idea how to handle the situation. Should she confront them? Ignore them and hope they left her alone? She covertly looked at the other people in the streets.

Looking around, Valtyra noticed several men walking by in a group, laughing amongst themselves. They were dressed in the robes of a spellcaster, probably from a local magic school. Other than that, there were a couple of dock workers carrying loads of crates to nearby boats, a couple of women looking at the wares of a fish stall under the stall keeper's watchful eye. Finally, she noticed a burly dwarf wandering by, a red sash around his waist.

The pair of toughs also noticed the dwarf and seemed to shy away from him, as if they did not want to fall under his watchful eye. As the dwarf scanned the area, his eyes fell on Valtyra and a genuine and kind smile filled his face as he walked past.

Valtyra took a deep breath and hurried to catch up to him.
"Hello!" she said to him. "I am, well new here, and I think those two, um, gentleman? May be paying me an uncomfortable amount of attention, but they seem to respect you so I was wondering, could we maybe walk together for a bit? At least until they decide to leave me alone?" |
