ThemeThose far beyond the normal ken taking on the mantle of burgeoning superheroes, albeit some will take up their heroic calling only reluctantly. You are the good guys in this; cold-blooded killers should seek employment 8 doors down.
FlavourExpect a bit of itchy sandbox sand to work its way into your undies within a role-play heavy, eclectic melange of light, cool, serious, light-hearted, gritty, comedic, and possibly the rather rare gibbering horror that might make even Lovecraft himself have nightmares.
Campaign SettingWelcome to Earth-Infinity, an alternate version of our world where the course of historical events experienced are the same as our own, with day-to-day life pretty much what you might expect for the year 1984, with the noteworthy exception being that superpowers, aliens, and assorted existential threats are very real.

This campaign has nothing whatsoever to do with established canon Marvel & DC Comics as it will be a clean slate game blending both elements, heavily customised to omit and significantly alter aspects of the setting and characters along the line. There will be references to canon heroes, events, locations, and you will get involved with canon villains, but please note that that is only for immersive flavour, as this game is about you and your heroic exploits.


Game InformationPosting
Tighten your laces superfolk, as this game will be fast-paced. Please only submit an application to this game if you can commit to daily in-character posts Monday through Friday (5 in-character posts per week). If, on a rare occasion, something comes up that affects your ability to post then please courteously drop a quick O.O.C. post to help keep the game moving.

"Rule of Cool"
An awesome scene, festooned with silly antics and swashbuckling acrobatics, is far more interesting for our collaborative little fun fest than just throwing dice at one other. Rules have a tendency to bend for those that act to move the story forward without taking liberties, and rewards are accrued much faster for those that really put in the time and energy. My goal is to make the coolest scene possible, always hoping to give everyone their shot in the sun, while also making it as fair as possible for all parties, without being hyper-fixated on being faithful to a specific reading of the rules.

Decision Time
  • Decisions will be made on the morning of July 16, taking ~4 applicants.
  • Game slated to start July 22, giving a few days for everyone to get acclimatised to the game thread, finalise their character, and prepare their first post.

Character GenerationAll are welcome to apply those new to the system and veterans alike. You task is to breathe life into an original hero, festooned with phenomenal abilities, that has a reason to adventure, can get along and work with the others of the group, and seeks to stick together with their teammates as a unit.

Notes
  • "Theatre of Mind": The scene will be described, rather than using maps with grids marked on them. Do your best to act based on your understanding of the scene, explaining your intention, and I'll try my best to work with you.
  • Group Initiative: I roll in private for both sides and "tag" everyone to let them know we are now in combat rounds, e.g. "[Tag PCs, Round 1]" leaving you free to post at any point that day, as is normal for your daily post. Actions are resolved in the order of posting for the most part, dependent on factors of logic or the wants of the poster. I resolve your actions in my next post / post evil's actions, tag for round 2 and the merry-go-round spins anew. tl;dr Write your daily in-character post as normal in the ~24 hour time period between my posts, even in combat.

    thusly. For most scenes I won't get too precious about rolls, unless the consequences are dire, or some other great import to the plot, or based on my strange little brain's whims.

  • Power Level 8 and have 120 Power Points
  • The SRD calls them "Character Points" and the book "Power Points", we'll go with the book here. Also, the SRD calls them "Victory Points" and the book calls them "Hero Points", and we'll again go with the book's verbiage.

  • Complications: Please pick 3 Complications (Link), at least one being a Motivation, as these are how you earn Hero Points.
  • Note: M&M3e is an unbalanced game that one has to work to avoid breaking, forcing a higher degree of scrutiny for typically-banned and troublesome abilities. That being said, anything that lets you control more than your character (duplication, mind-control, summon, minions, side-kick, etc.) will not be permitted.
  • Awards/Progression: Hero Points are earned +1 per week for those that post each day (Maximum 3 Hero Points can be banked), and those posters will also be eligible for extra awards. +1 Power Points will be awarded weekly for those that post each day of the week in the in-character thread, and additional points will be provided for the weekly posters at milestones based on excellent roleplay and engagement.

Description
Civillian
5'11" tall, leanly built, blonde hair and blue eyes. He dresses in Victorian/retro formal ware inspired by what will become known as "Steampunk" in about five years. He has a light Brooklyn accent.

Hero
He has yet to identify himself as a superhero or create an identity. He keeps his powers secret.

Disposition
Friendly and gregarious, he is good at reading people and picking up on how to chat with them. He is discreetly nosy, and knows how to keep people talking until they say a bit too much. He has a strong sense of justice, but has come to realize that Justice and the Law are two very different things.

Background
Born and raised in a cop family in Brooklyn, he is the first Mutant in his family tree. His powers manifested around the age of 14. Only his dad Ricky knows, the rest of the family is in the dark. Ricky was distraught at first, but helped his son learn to adapt and survive as best a father could. Knowing it would be too much of a liability to be a mutant in the force, Julian went to college for criminal justice with a minor in photography. Graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor's, he started working as a private investigator with his father kicking him extra work on the slicker criminals that couldn't be pinned down with evidence.

Julian has been keeping his mutant powers a secret for the sake of his family's stability and reputation. Julian's dad has come to terms with Julian being a mutant, but cannot bear the thought of his son on television in a track suit being some vigilante. Julian entering the world of superheroes, mutants, and the trials ahead will surely shake things up and put his secret life in the spotlight if he isn't careful.

Emilia is a young woman born in Greece with tanned brown skin and shoulder length brown hair. She stands 5'6" tall and has a fit muscular build. She typically wears light clothing in bright colors from her Mediterranean background

Hero
Panacea wears a white body suit with a blue shawl around her shoulders. She carries with her a staff with twin snakes coiled around it's head, and wings flaring from it's tip.

Disposition
Emilia is a kind and generous individual giving of her time and self to help other whenever they are in need. She volunteers handing out food and works in clinics in the impoverished areas of the world. She will try to deescalate conflicts to avoid harm to the involved parties, but after seeing enough of the world, she knows the sometimes the only way to prevent further harm is to stand up to bullies.

Background
Emilia's mother died in child-birth and she should have died as well, but she was chosen by the Greek Goddess Panacea unbeknownst to her grieving father. From birth Emilia displayed remarkable health. She never got sick, scratches and cuts seemed to go away over night. As she got older it got odder and odder until her eighteen birthday. She was granted a vision by the goddess. In it Panacea told her that Emilia was her chosen agent in the world. There was a prophecy granted to her by Phoebe the goddess of intellect and prophecy. It said that in times yet to come that a mortal chosen by Panacea would be the key to saving the world. The time has come and Emilia was her chosen mortal for the troubled timed ahead.

When she awoke she found herself in a gloomy and misty realm. She stood before an imposing man who claimed to be the god Hades. He told her that due, to a deal with Panacea, he would allow her to be trained by the spirits of dead hero's in exchange for a future service from the goddess's chosen hero. Provided a years worth of rations in the form of MRE's (The goddess believed that these were the preferred survival food for mortals now) Emilia was trained by long dead hero's to face the coming doom. She learned that her amazing health could be both bestowed to and taken from others. She also learned of the Goddess's blessing that would protect her from some harm. After a year in Hades Emilia was returned to her home to find her father in shock. Apparently he had thought her dead. He had received no warning when she suddenly disappeared. In a snap decision she decided to keep her father separated from her fated duty and told him that she had been kidnapped. Nothing came of the investigation into her disappearance as she only gave vague details and eventually the case was dropped.

In the coming years she trained her knowledge, powers, and the fighting skills she learned in Hades. She enrolled into medical school to provide a cover to help others. Luckily her amazing health meant that she needed little sleep which was good because between medical school and her heroic activities she had little of it. During the day she studied and at night she looked for criminals to hone her skills against. She disguised herself to maintain her identity, and took the name of the goddess that shaped her life. Eventually she graduated with honors, in part to the intrinsic knowledge that her powers gave her in aid of healing others. She moved to (Where ever the campaign is taking place in) to be in position where she was told the calamity was to occur. She continues her heroic activities by night and works in free clinics by day, helping the needy that cannot afford to help themselves.

For what it's worth I like the premise of Krystal and the fact she's a NK escapee can tie in a lot of drama.

Panacea looks cool too. It's easy to forgot DC doesn't own Greek mythology.

I'm slowly working my way through that video list, thanks for posting it. Question about the healing power. Text says

"This power allows the hero to restore lost health and endurance ranks to others (but not themselves). The power rank indicates the maximum amount of Health that may be restored to one hero maximum, on any one day."

So my question is, does that mean you can only health one hero per day up to power rank Health? Or does it mean you can heal multiple heroes, but only up to the power rank? So at rank 20, 20 hp split among multiple targets. Or does it mean you can heal multiple targets, but each target can only be healed 20 points per day if at rank 20?

The more I dig into the book and watch the videos, the more excited I get for the game. Can hardly wait a month.
