On very rare occasions, a player is welcomed to the Crossing, gets involved in an adventure and starts writing, ending up winning the Post of the Month contest immediately. It does not happen a lot, but CONGRATZZZZ to Luezon who managed to do just that!!!!!

Unfortunately, the post is within the New Player Solo Game setting so it is unable to be read by everyone so I am going to do two things; get the post in the spoiler button AND, please read carefully: I am going to link a different post so you can send some RPG-love and appreciation.
Disclaimer: even if this is NOT de winning post, it is a way to click those scales at the right top corner and show Luezon you have read their winning post, they deserve this!

To quote Bananabadger: Playing with a lot of unknowns, Luezon nonetheless manages to apply a lot of relevant background and roleplaying to a simple encounter and ritual spell-cast. Giving background on a 1st-level character is tough because you want to have a story, but you can't have too much of a story at 1st level (after all, with 0 XP, how much could you have seen of life?). This post moves forward with a mechanical choice and provides the DM (and fellow players if there were some) with good background information to integrate into the story.

Luezon Thymesprigg, Halfling Cleric Marking the receipt and agreement with a quick flourish, he considered whether he should add the mark of the Hearthkeeper. His family, priests of Cyrollalee each and every one, marked their signatures with an additional circular symbol representative of the halfling deity's holy sigil. Luezon knew the symbol well, and had even practiced signing it while it was still assumed he'd pick up the mantle, rather than to run off to fight in some distant war. But now that faith had found him again, should he sign it? Cranstabi's answer to his own question almost seemed to fade into a background drone as he held the quill above the paper. The Queen's duty, yes. But where was his duty? The moment dilated as he became trapped in thought. He tapped the reliquary box but it offered no guidance here - this was a question for him alone. Was he truly devoted to the clergy of Cyrollalee, or was has just a confused runaway? He ran to the army from a priesthood he hadn't wanted, so was he now just running back because he couldn't hack it on the front lines? He swallowed his rising doubt. The quill withdrew - his signature marked on Darnell's receipt but without the mark of the gods. Not yet earned, he justified. Slipping the lucky charm into a pocket and the potion into his pack, he followed Cranstabi towards the gates of the tower. It looked beautiful with its flower-filled gardens, but almost too inviting given the uneasy circumstances. "Do I just... knock? Or is this a key under the mat situation?" he asked of the sheriff, as he scanned the tower for any signs of life - or the strange lights Cranstabi had mentioned earlier. But otherwise, he was as ready as he'd be. A will, though? He had no personal will. While in the Disputes, all of his effects would have just been shipped back home with a letter of condolence. But here... If something happened to him now, he'd just disappear. That realisation was unsettling, and he looked up at Cranstabi earnestly, "If something does happen to me... Send word to the priests of the Hearthkeeper in Cayyan. They'll know who to inform." With that, he tapped his reliquary box and a warm orange glow of a fireplace rippled out from the head of his mace.

 

Luezon's Actions & Mechanics Action: Casting You touch one object that is no larger than 10 feet in any dimension. Until the spell ends (1 hour), the object sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. The light can be colored as you like. Completely covering the object with something opaque blocks the light. The spell ends if you cast it again or dismiss it as an action.Light on his mace. Ofcourse this wasn't the only post that was nominated, please check out Strangemund's post over here to see what Kaigen is taking about when they claim that Strangemund is doing a lot of great character work to bring her NPCs to life. '... but what elevates this post is the use of humor. Not only does her excellent sense of comedic rhythm make the post entertaining, it also helps release the tension of the previous scene and signal a more relaxed tone.'

This definitely makes one curious to start reading, so enjoy and spread some RPXP while you are reading :-)

Both were the last contestants of the year 2023, meaning we got some challenge coming out way, deciding who has written the best Post of the Month in 2023. There will be a poll made, and there will be an opportunity for CS-members to vote using the option of a poll. Keep your eyes open, and do not hesitate to nominate a Janyary post to this thread
