Flaw: I'm afraid of water.
Background: Animal Handling, Survival, Land Vehicles, 1 Language, Feature of the Guild Merchant Custom: Traveling Merchant . Gerlow grew up in a tribe of leonin. They lived in a steppe-like environment as nomads. At times, Gerlow's father would take Gerlow to a big city to trade wares. This awoke Gerlow's interest in the world, and he vowed he would see all of it.
He joined up with a guild of traveling merchants, got himself a mule and a cart, and started to transport wood. Wood for barrels, chests, and tables. He invested his profits in his business, and a few years later, he transported huge giant-felled trees, meant to become big doors, closets, or even ships. It was hard work, and the money wasn't great. So Gerlow changed his career path slightly - instead of transporting wood, he would transport people. Noble people, for they paid best. Gerlow fit in with his targetted clientele just fine, due to the regal appearance others so often attributed to his kin.
Roleplaying Sample:
The three girls in the carriage chattered merrily. They had been doing so for days, and Gerlow felt he knew everything there was to know about the summer they had spent at their grandparent's mansion.
The sun was already setting. They had not gotten as far as he had planned. The road had been too muddied by the rain to allow quick passage. Gerlow ran his hand through his manes. It was still a few hours to the road-side inn, and he would have preferred to have made it while the sun still shone.
In the distance, he could see three people camping by the side of the road. A small fire burned. Travelers, saving coins by skipping the inn, no doubt. Gerlow had done so often himself, back in his wood transporting days. He never had to be worried about being robbed, back then. No one could carry the wood anyway. These children, however, would make a great ransom. "Pardon, my ladies..." he began, as a burst of giggles drowned his voice. Gerlow looked over at the travelers in the distance. They were getting up. They will be trouble. "Please, quiet yourselves." He said, a little louder. The voices behind him went still, but it was too late. He could see one of the travelers grab a bow. He pulled the reins and the carriage slowly came to a halt. He had trained the horses well, and they knew better than to make sudden stops. Gerlow grabbed a shield from under his seat, strapped it to his arm, and jumped off the coach box.
These are my pups you're threatening! He knew they weren't, but he also knew that he would believe his own lie enough to make his blood pump faster. He started to sprint towards the travelers. Do you take me for a simple savage?! He knew they might not even have seen what type of humanoid he was, but it mattered not. He felt his claws elongate. DO YOU THINK YOU CAN TAME ME?! An arrow whistled inches next to his head but Gerlow hardly noticed it. The other two travelers had picked up their weapons as well. One had a big axe, the other a sword and a shield. When Gerlow was close enough he took a deep breath, opened his mouth, and roared. The sound was so loud at seemed as if lightning had struck. He heard the girls in the carriage shriek and imagined them hiding under the blankets. It would not save them. Only I can save them now.
Two of the bandits fled. Only the one with the axe remained. Gerlow flew at him with all his might. He barely realized what he did. It was pure emotion, pure rage.
A moment later, Gerlow looked down. The man with the axe had his throat ripped out. Then Gerlow looked up. The two other bandits had stopped their flight and looked at him, then at each other, then they resumed their flight.
Gerlow wiped his hands at the bandit's leather armor, took a few steadying breaths, and returned to the carriage. "Don't worry, everything is in order. Keep the curtains closed as we continue. We shall be at an inn soon, where they will have a hot meal and baths for you."
The following day, his traveling companions did not discuss their vacation. Gerlow couldn't help but smile as the girls tried to imitate his roar with their high little voices. When finally they asked him to do it again, he imitated them imitating him. Hilarity ensued and by the time Gerlow dropped off his charges, they had a new hero. As soon as he had helped them out of the carriage, they told their father all about Gerlow. Gerlow could only smile humbly, listening to the way the children exaggerated everything. He accepted the extra compensation only after his employer insisted.
Another satisfied customer that will most likely seek to do business with me again.
Why: Gerlow depends on his reputation as a trustworthy driver. He will get his charges to their destination in a safe and timely manner. He feels that not only he, but the entire race of leonin, is judged by the result of his actions.
