Sacrys' introduction
I still remember the time when I was a pre-teen looking for online games and fell by accident on a play-by-post forum. Naively, I thought it was about an actual videogame and then... Well, I ended up joining a play-by-post adventure and enjoyed it very much. So much that it actually became one of my main hobbies, until I did the transition to the more "vocal" tabletop. And here I am now, many years later, coming back to the origins of this hobby of mine. Among the systems I enjoyed the most, I would probably list Warhammer Fantasy (especially for the setting), Pathfinder (as I enjoyed the more complex mechanics, albeit more condensed than 3.5) and Dnd 5e (simpler and very enjoyable by its rp-centric nature). I have quite some experience as a player and game master, mostly in Pathfinder as it accounts for about 80% of my roleplaying experience. If I were to give a general direction most of my characters take, I'd say that even the most martial of them tend to have access to magic at some point. Well, I do sometimes make non-caster characters. Actually, I tend to also avoid playing standard full-casters (as the cliché of the wizard with the hat). Well, I guess I mostly play what I feel like playing depending on the setting and my mood during the character creation. Also, while I do enjoy optimisation, I usually go for a concept and fluff first, sometimes basing myself on an artwork, and then try to brush it until I reach a comfortable power level. That's pretty much it for this introduction of mine. I hope to have a great time here, and to read some delicious adventures while I'm at it. |

welcome!
glad you joined us. 5e is very popular, and so is Pathfinder. There are a lot of warhammer fans too, I believe. Hope you enjoy playing either one (or all) here.

Welcome back to the club chummer!
Glad you could make your way back into the fold. As Dirk said, Pathfinder and 5e are very popular right now. Can't say as I've seen much Warhammer fantasy love, but there is plenty of love in these parts for 40k. What finally made you come back? I know for me it was starting a family. Didn't have time for the real life games like I used to, but still needed my fix! Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you settle in!

Good evening Sacrys,
Cool to read that you returned to your old hobby, what was the trigger that made you decide to sign up over here? Never played Warhammer Fantasy myself, I started with 3.5 decades ago, continued to Pathfinder and by now almost all of my games are 5E. (one Pathfinder game that is too awesome to ever leave, even though it is hard to remember the Pathfinder mechanics if you are used to 5E ;-) Hehe, wizards are always very appreciated, I run an everlasting module and we tend to run low on magic over and over again ;-). Is there one character you once made that you thought was the best character ever made? (Race, class?) Anyways, welcome over here and hope you have fun ![]()

I had some character concepts in mind which would have thrived more in a written environment, especially with the possibility to put more emphasis on the descriptions, which led me to think about getting back to this format. Plus, regularly writting for the fantasy genre would put me back into shape to finish this fantasy novel project of mine which has been stagnating for a while. The very specific trigger may have been a conversation with my girlfriend, which I was trying to get into the hobby.
Usually, my groups tend to run low on healers and support classes. I have the feeling people usually have a straight view at those classes as pure support, while they can be so much more. I still remember playing a princess blessed by the moon, behaving as the weaponless healer in robe. And then, the time when the party got into real trouble, people discovered that their "healer oracle" was able to dish out more damage than the group's barbarian. Fun times! I believe the best character I ever made was a villain in one of the pathfinder campaigns I ran. It was a goblin named Zog Zog, which the party encountered several times at different places, and he didn't strike them as especially powerful. He was mostly barking orders at groups of goblins obeying his commands, and sometimes allied himself with the players, sometimes tried to backstab them. Then he died. Well, one of his lesser simulacrum died, as the players discovered it was in fact a very powerful vivisectionist alchemist who made lots of lesser simulacrum to do manage different goblin communities. At some point, the party confronted him, only to realize he was way too powerful for them to fight. He basically had eyes opened all over his body (protector tumors, duplicated with a spell, making him almost unkillable as each tumor had half his hit points and was able to split the damage) and was able to throw his scalpels with a very high accuracy. The build itself was magnificient, I spent a lot of time on it to avoid having the party just one shot him (which happened a lot in the campaign, as we used mythic, which had the side effect of turning most fights into a rocket tag). The party ended up defeating him... Only to realize once more it was a simulacrum (albeit a very complete one this time). Zog zog even agreed to let them leave with his simulacrum's loot, in exchange for them to declare him dead and collect his bounty. Ends up he wasn't really a villain, he was just a researcher selling blueprints and products to the highest bidders (which included the actual big bad guys of the campaign). I guess I'll be mostly looking to join a 5e game for the moment. I actually started working on a character and was about to post it on the Arachobia's West Marches recrutment thread, but apps are apparently over. Oh well, I'll keep looking. If you're looking to sharpen your writing, you've also come to the right place. Look under The Library tab on the main forum. There you will find writing prompts, monthly short story contests, and a writing school for more seasoned members. It's a cool place to work and get feedback in a chill environment!

Welcome to the site and hope you have a wonderful experience here.
I enjoy this site and everyone that I've crossed is nice and acceptable. Don't be afraid to reach out. And hope to cross paths once or twice in stories.
