I'm not sure why I picked the name "Blue Mana" but here I am!

I don't even play Magic anymore, and when I did only two of my decks even used blue cards!

Anyway, hello everyone! I'm here for the same reason you're all here. I have experience with D&D 3.0/3.5, D&D 5th, Gamma World 8th, Call of Cthulhu 4th/5th, Star Wars d20 and oWoD, and have played a bit of (though not enough to be 100% comfortable with) Dungeon Crawl Classics and D&D 2nd. Some games I'm interested in but have not gotten to play are Weapons of the Gods, Apocalypse World, Exodus Post Apocalypse RPG, Usagi Yojimbo, L5R and Spaceship Zero. I have played and not enjoyed Rifts; it was also incompetently run every time I played, so maybe someone out there can turn me around on it.

My interests outside of tabletop games are movies, the post-apocalypse in general, going to punk shows and video games. There's other stuff, but I'd say those are my main things. In any case, just wanted to make an intro post to get myself one step closer to losing my new user status. It's great to be here, and I look forward to (hopefully!) playing with some of you fine folks.

Welcome to the club chummer!

I'll admit I've never got the hang of GURPS either. Tried a star trek game a few years ago using the system. My group re named it Excell Spreadsheet 2150 XD

Still, glad to see such an experienced gamer join the roster. What percentage of that pedigree was spent on each side of the table?

Glad you could join us. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you settle in!

I’ve been waiting for a Dungeon Crawl Classics game to show on here myself! Welcome to the cool part of the internet.

@Imveros: I've never played a GURPS game. I think there may have been a GURPS Rifts at some point, but I'm not sure. If there was, may god help us all because Rifts is stupidly complex enough as it is. I'd say it's been 98/2 player/GM. I just don't like running games. I'm bad at improvising when I have to provide the entertainment for other people, and I don't like doing prep either. I ran a few sessions of D&D 3.5, a couple of Call of Cthulhu one shots/very short campaigns that ended gruesomely due to player stupidity (they just couldn't shake the D&D "every problem can be solved with violence" mentality) and one session of Gamma World that never wound up going anywhere because of scheduling issues. Thanks for the welcome!

@dirkoth: Gosh, not even close to almost everything! There's a ton of stuff out there that I'm sure I want to try even though I've probably never heard of it. I was always the one who bought the more obscure games, but when you're that person the expectation is that you'll learn and run those games, and since I hate running games I wind up getting my hands on cool books I'll never actually get to use. Haha.

@Jeffkevlar: Dude, that game is so much fun. For my group at least the ridiculous degree of difficulty and squishy PCs made for a lot of hilarious moments and a couple of really lucky badass problem solving moments. I dig your avatar, by the way! Is it from Starfinder? I haven't gotten a chance to look at that game yet.

Thank you! I'm 100% looking to play. Hahaha. I think that because PBP games move more slowly I'd have an easier time DMing them, but I'd also immediately go into lazy procrastination mode and just never get anything done. :P

@bluemanna I’ve been wondering how the DCC game would work via PbP. Maybe once my plate clears a bit I’ll try run one to find out. And yeah, Starfinder. I’m running two groups through a first level adventure and playing in another Starfinder game. Tons of fun!

Oh, and if you are looking for a 5e game check Chocoladevla’s signature above. Everyone gets a chance there and it’s fun. He’s a pretty good GM too, but don’t tell him I said that.

@Jeffkevlar I imagine it would work the same as any other game, only the posts would be larger until the number of PCs per player get narrowed down with inevitable gruesome deaths. :P

Thanks a ton! I'm working on applications for two games at the moment, so I'll see how those pan out for me and then check it out. I don't want to apply to a bunch of games and wind up having to duck out on some because I bit off more than I can chew, but I'll keep that on my radar for sure.

Cool. Oh. And if you like less common games and are familiar with Tales
From the Loop, I’m recruiting for a game right now. Check my signature.

See you round the site!

Punk shows!

What good ones have you seen lately? Who’s your fav? Are you more a fan of the genre or the aesthetic?

Fun story (and post apocalypse-related): back in the day, my best friend’s beater of a first car had a cassette player and the first cassette found and played got stuck. So it was Misfits (the yellow album) for six years straight. It’s a miracle we didn’t get locked up. Earth AD in particular holds a dark place in my heart.

@Jeffkevlar: I've never heard of it! All the more reason to give it a look when I get a chance.

@mad_gondsman: The last punk show I went to was The Jasons, and they were incredible. Great sound, high energy. Plus I took a girl and it was her first punk show. I'm a huge, huge fan of both, though I think the genre is more important. The aesthetic isn't genuine without the genre in my opinion.

That story is awesome. Earth AD is so killer. I've seen Doyle twice, and they always break out some tracks from it. Also post-apoc related, there's a local band here in Indy called 9th Circle Symphony. They're one of my absolute favorite bands period. Great live show.

I had to check the Jasons out... and it's exactly what I thought it was going to be, haha. Good stuff. I dug the 9th Circle, actually. Seems like it'd be a fun show. I miss the theatrics of GWAR... and Dave Brockie.

As I've gotten older, I've gotten away from the Punk "sound" and moved more toward heavier stuff but I still enjoy the irreverence and anti-authoritarian shenanigans that the movement eventually became known for... as opposed to a brief fashion movement in London, hehe. I just saw Queens of the Stone Age a few weekends ago and they're an old fav. Not punk, per se, but I think they're punk rock as hell. And Josh Homme married Helloooooooo, Nurse!!!Brody Dalle, so there's that, too. At the very least, he married into it.

Anyway, welcome to the site! Hope you get your game on and have fun in the process!

Just trying to get past new status with this post, but it seemed appropriate as you are trying to break through too.
