As a Gm I hate TT tag rolling. Your post looks nicer, but when I write my update and have the player posts open I have to hover my mouse back and forth to get a look at the dice individually.

Having them all in a row in an OOC tag is much clearer, especially since that way generally includes a list of all the mechanical actions too, meaning I'm quicker at writing my update and less prone to maybe miss auxiliary rolls and so on.

That's why as a player I generally don't do it either unless it is specifically asked for by a gm (hasn't happened yet actually). Of course since this is a competition I'll just do whatever the judges prefer for the format.

Right. I just thought I would plug the notion that tt rolling is way better flow for reading immersion than inum rolling. But yes, for inline rolling, spoilerbutton at the bottom with mechanics outlined is certainly a preferred method.

Personally I would be worried about messing up dice code in a competition post and ending up with embarrassing red flags. So, having zero experience with placing inum rolls, it would be a unique challenge to break up a post with appropriate rolls and keep the flow of the story alive. Inum just seems clumsy to me, but whatever.

I can't remember where...but I thought I had come across that exact explanation somewhere, recently. Can't find it now, and my limited attempts to search are like looking for that needle in the haystack, so I doubt I'll ever be able to find whatever it was that I had once saw.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge (or a better memory!) than I have will be able to provide a valid answer.

This. (Emphasis added). Inum is the tradition for Outplay though, so we are sticking with it. y preference is for all rolls and OOC mechanics be in a fieldset outside the RP section of your post (like in the combat example post I shared in the meet the judges thread)

Maybe someone already asked this but what is Inum rolling exactly?

It is where you can add in-line dice rolling like so:
Dice Attack:
1d20+7 (20)+7 Total = 27
(27)

To do so, you can write your dice code like this (replacing <> with [] ): <dice=attack>inum 1d20+7</dice>

Edit: Damn-there goes my one and only nat 20 for the comp!

Protip: you can use to showcase code without it, well, parsing.

[dice=attack]1d20+7 = 834029352 [/dice]

Ruh-roh, no parse didn't like the dice roller too much. I think it might work for everything except the dice roller code!

Dice tags are, I think, deliberately fussy. You have to put [dice=attack]1d20+7[/dice]

In order to get [dice=attack]1d20+7[/dice]

Would it be acceptable to use inum inside an ooc mechanics fielidset rather than trying to insert the random numbers effectively into a narrative without knowing what they are?

So just an observation, but inum does not really work with the way dice are rolled in Shadowrun, given that it just previews the sum of the dice (which in this system is meaningless), and then you have to hover yet again. I suppose for that bracket it's just the "normal" #d6smch5, right?

To illustrate:

Dice Inum:
5d6smch5 4 ✘, 5 ✔, 5 ✔, 3 ✘, 3 ✘ (2/5) 0⇑ 0⇓ Total = 20
(20)
vs
Dice Normal:
5d6smch5 3 ✘, 5 ✔, 1 ✘, 2 ✘, 5 ✔ (2/5) 0⇑ 1⇓ Total = 16

You can always spoilertag rolls away, which has the upside of after one click remaining visible.

Agreed that inum is problematic on its own with the intention of placing it in the narrative text.

Apparently not what the judges (or at least one of them) are asking for anyway.

This has been addressed in the rules and queries thread -- we're going to go with inum anyway apparently.
