Kingdom of Numai
Race makeup: Elven. Homeland terrain: Situated in the north west, the kingdom's capitol sits next to a great river that empties into the western sea. Rolling plains make up much of the kingdom, but a lone mountain surrounded by forest is where the river begins. Heading much more north beyond the kingdom and one begins to see the landscape freeze and the temperature drops considerably. Winters are cold, but easily survivable by even the farmers of Numai and the summers are quite pleasant. National mindset: A good people, the kingdom does tend to keep to itself, other nations might even call them isolationist though they themselves would not. Progress is what most strive for in Numai, its magical and technological levels are evidence of this. While many have faith in the gods, the people do not often openly pray, just doing it in their own time, usually before bed. As such the churches are small and have fewer flocks that regularly attend outside of special occasions such as births or deaths. Government type: The kingdom of Numai is a monarchy, but the king or queen has many advisors and councils to help govern the people. Background: The kingdom of Numai began when a cabal of elven wizards left the unnamed forest where they had lived most of their lives and headed north. The place they left was one with nature and magic was more of an artistic cultural talent. This group felt they could achieve so much more with their talents and so left to make it on their own. They eventually stumbled upon the great river the capitol now resides on and decided to try and make a home here. Their experiments were successful, creating magical golems and melding the land into the city they pictured in their minds. Eventually they grew and prospered, founding two other cities on the river, each as magnificent as the others. Not many travellers come to Numai and it's unique mix of magic and technology have spawned many legends and stories about the lands in the north and the wonders it holds. Xadal's father, King Vermus the second, didn't want much to do with the war when messengers came, asking for Numai's aid. They were far from the frontlines and Alvari hadn't seemed to be too interested in the kingdom thus far. When Vermus was assassinated however, everything changed. Xadal, the eldest of the late king's three children was thrust into the leadership of his people at only the age of 107. The people, wrought with sadness and anger, demanded those responsible be brought to justice. Alvari were declared the perpetrators and the Kingdom of Numai joined the great coalition. Other: It is a tightly guarded secret that even today, no one actually knows who murdered the king. The advisors needed a scapegoat and the Alvari nation was the easiest and so the Kingdom of Numai joined the great coalition. It could have been them, or perhaps it was another nation, striking back from the refusal of aid when asked, or perhaps it was someone within the nation, doing so for some unknown reason, the only one who stood to directly gain from the king's death was his eldest son, and he was but a boy. Perhaps there is more to the assassination that meets the eye... |
