Do you need a party social rogue kind of a thing? Do you have anyone who has a silk tongue? Do you want someone like that?

I kinda built towards that already. I'm just falling down a bit on it. Also, my rolls were more human baseline average so I don't have the bonuses that I would have had through point buy.

Ok.
I'll go for some support in general then, and try to round out the party in a few ways- though I'll wait for some feedback first, I think. Does anyone want to be linked to a monk via backstory to give me an easier in?

If you have a way to link your monk to either the acting world or military officer training, then Alistair is easy. If not, Alistair was a fairly out and about person. He is trying to play his role as exemplar RHC officer quite rigidly though.
Toss some ideas. We (by which I mean the other players and myself) can certainly bounce stuff back at you.

Bear in mind that the Vekeshi Mystics, if that's what you want to go for, are an underground sect - so may end up with conflicting interests to the RHC and the rest of the party. That's not a problem for me, but it's a decision you should make deliberately rather than by accident

From the characters who've disappeared thus far, we've lost:
* Two skyseers (one oracle, one psion) * One rogue (thug) with docker's jank * One gunslinger (gunsmith) * One cleric (technologist) In the current group... * One technologist (wizard) * One martial scientist (rogue - investigator) * One Yerasol war veteran (two-weapon fighter) Having just the one character with so much as a single rank in Diplomacy (or Sense Motive) puts a lot of pressure on Alistair to handle the social side of our investigations. Domnik's a scarred and nervous veteran on a Charisma penalty, while Orpha generally prefers machines to people. We've got some connections to social groups in Risur (e.g. having a veteran boosts our collective prestige with many locals), but right now we're kind of dependent on either Orpha fluking a very high roll when charming someone, or Alistair not rolling badly - and given the nature of d20 systems, neither's exactly reliable. And, having lost Annie (for example), we lack an expert in Intimidate to provide an alternative approach. In relation to combat, we're a bit light - but that's to be expected for a three-person group. I'm more concerned by our lack of healing than by our rather low damage output. A Vekeshi mystic would provide an interesting contrast to the rest of the group, and would offer Dreaming connections we're entirely lacking - but their common reputation as terrorists and murderers could certainly provide for a few interesting interactions if your ties came to light. ![]()

He would be a mystic in philosophy, but not entirely in practice, so he'd likely conflict less with the group than most. But the reputation could still be a problem.
I'll see what I can whip up in the next few days.

Hello everyone! I am sorry for my absence... I recall that I was accepted and shifted everything over to these threads, but I cannot recall if I ever actually posted before the situation that caused my two year lapse.
I would like to offer an official apology to each and every one of you, just as a general blanket on my part. I was approached by HL and asked if I may still be interested to jump back in so late in the game, (I am amazed, but not surprised, that this game has continued to this day) and I figured why not... but here is the crux of the situation; Do I jump back in with my original concept (Dwarf Inquisitor), but perhaps rebuilt to purpose. Or, do I get a general consensus of what is needed in the existing party and create that, albeit with my own flair. All of which is dependent on you lot... that is, if you'd have me.

You and I could do something together if everyone is quite alright with that.

I'd forgotten that Rune was an Inquisitor rather than a Cleric. Oops. But some help with meat shield duties, gaining access to divine spellcasting, and simply having another character around to provide suggestions / spot connections / not botch Sense Motive would certainly be helpful.
![]() If you were to change anything, I'd be most inclined to suggest looking at a new Theme Feat... but it's not as if having two wholly-different devices will result in a great deal of overlap. As for linking the two new characters: that could make a good deal of sense. If Rune has had Megiddo's new PC as a partner / close colleague in the time that has passed IC since last we laid eyes on him, it could provide a greater degree of connection than any variant on "you've been ordered to take this stranger with you". Yes, we're all subject to orders... but having someone vouch for a new PC is only likely to help. ![]()

Also, I will post tonight.

I agree completely. I like the overall concept and design of Rune. I'll work on leveling him up to 2, (and perhaps reequip him with X amount of gold?) to better fit him back into the scene.
Again, thank you all for seemingly welcome me back.

So, what kinds of things would a monk and inquisitor have been doing together since last Rune was around? How long has it been?

It's been two years since I last played (the game had literally just started), and I don't even recall making a post... having said that, an Inquisitor could easily have been asked to escort some within, or even judge, a Monastic Order. (Deity/alignment defendant most likely.) Or most likely they could be seen as bedfellows by the RHC of similar nature who could work well together.
(Also I've decided to go with a Martial Scientist from DRAKR, rather than my initial vision of a holy-man metal worker. He's still a dwarf, and can still work metal quite well, in addition to having mending at will... so he's still effective with my initial concept. But now he's a little more doom and gloom as one would expect from the Dwarfs... who believe the world's-end is coming! *wink*)
