Hear ye, hear ye! It has begun! Our wondrous adventure in the strange land of Vinland.

The first post is up and it briefly outlines how you got there, what you've done since and who the main characters are. Take your time and prepare a intro post describing how you go about your early morning... or what your character feels about this new land, what they've been doing so far, anything you like. As you can see, I've already given everyone "tasks" that they would either have volunteered for or were assigned to them by the Jarl.

Feel free to PM each other and establish relationships that you'd have formed either in Greenland (or even back home in Norway), on the ship, or in camp. It's not necessary but I find it usually makes for interesting role-play.

As I said, there's no rush at this point. If you still want to flesh out some more details in your bio or you want to discuss with other players, take all the time you need. If we can get this baby up and running by Wednesday or Thursday (or earlier), I would be very happy. After that, let's try to keep it to at least one-a-day, shall we?

At least one a day might be difficult for me at times. (My own game application ends on Thursday and I had 20+ applicants.) But, I will work diligently as I can to produce a post whenever possible!

Would you be interested in starting up private threads for each player? With a limit on PM's it can help keep conversations straight and keep the OOC thread (that everyone checks) from being cluttered

That sounds like a good idea, Rekal. We never had that option on the old forums. I'll see if I can ask the reds to make a private thread sub-folder.

Are you excited about this? Because I sure am!
Glad to see we're up and running, I like the posts so far. I get the feeling I got lucky when you all applied. Can't wait to see Whispers, Rekal and Sammich.

On another note, yesterday I got my National Geographic mag for November and surprise, surprise, one of the articles was about the Vikings in Canada! It is a sign from the old gods, my friends! Or... just a lovely coincidence, whatever you like. I thought it was great, so here are the online versions of those articles:

Mostly it's about the new excavation by Patricia Sutherland, archaeologist extraordinaire and friend to all Viking lovers. Apparently, they've finally found new Norse settlements on Baffin island and the Labrador coast (previously, the only know settlement was L'Anse aux Meadows on Newfoundland, which is where we are - more or less).

Just a sidenote to my most recent post, Skligg, while my post has Surtr considering Josef a "turncoat", it extends to his faith and the fact that Surtr doesn't trust the Christians. It doesn't mean he actually considers him a traitor to the expedition.

A bit of mistrust from one character to another: obviously nothing towards you or any other of the players.

Sure, that's fine. But realize as well that Josef wasn't born amoung the Norsemen. Though his father was a great Norman warrior, Josef was born in Constantinople to a Jewish mother.

Roger that, I did overlook that, and it'll probably give the character some leeway from Surtr, but he'll probably still consider it true on the basis of being a member of the expedition, even if not norman by blood.

I'm at GMT-7, and you can generally expect a post around this time.

I'm kind of at a standstill RP wise in game. I mean, I'm suppose to be learning a language, so there's the assumption that a lot of back and forth is going on. Which would be quite boring to RP, and without knowing how well we can communicate (and lacking an idea of something worthwhile to try to communicate) I'm kind of stuck scratching my head.

Maybe you could describe the communication instead of actually writing it out? Like:

Using what little words he had learned thus far, he tried to communicate with the prisoner. Though difficult, a combination of broken words and gestures allowed him to inquire as to the prisoner's wellbeing at least

Or something similar. That, or ask Frost how far along the communication is.
