Chris waits for the others to come down the ladder before stepping up to the door "At least it's better than studying, right?" she says, not really liking the music that is playing. She goes through the door (if it lets her pass).

Minako shook his head, as he begins to climb down the ladder. Slide, really. Unlike the acrobatic Chris, who seemed perfectly content to just jump down it. "Remind me to download some music onto my phone, in case this ever happens again. I prefer my own theme music!" He noted, before aiding Chris in her door-opening. "Given how many books are in here, we'll probably find the one we're looking for...and for once, without the threat of monsters! After-all, this is under the school. The worst we'll find are some rats and maybe some spiders."

It didn't take long for Kira to catch up with the others. Thanks for the vague directions of the librarian, finding the fiction section was easy - after all, as far as the mundies were concerned, you only found fantasy in fiction. She followed the rather obvious trail left by her predecessors, and scaled down the ladder to meet with Jack, Minako and Chris. It seemed that their precocious rabbit-eared friend would not be joining them for their descent into the underworld. Shame, that.
With the introduction of the theme music, Kira stashed away her own headphones. It couldn't be helped; it wasn't that she liked it, just that it was too hard to ignore with her own. "Atmospheric," she mused, uttering the bare minimum of a reply. She gave a glance to the bookshelves on either side, but disregarded them just as quickly. No ancient artifact worth its salt would be left on a shelf alongside lesser tomes; they were obviously looking for a podium, possibly trap-laden or composed of asbestos. It was only logical. With that knowledge set in her mind, she marched forward alongside Chris and Minako. |

The Nexus Library - General Reference Section You open up the door into a vast chamber. You briefly ponder the size of the place, before realizing it probably wouldn't matter much anyway. The whole chamber is situated like a giant cross of sorts, or perhaps a zig-zaggy diamond, with a wonderfully deep and dark pit in the middle. Bits of cloud swirl around the pit, and a massive chandelier hangs over the center, with each of the little dangly parts serving as another, normal sized chandelier. You could certainly get your exercise jogging around the sides of the place.Somewhere in Space, but Still a School Day in Time For your current place, at least, is a 50x60 insert into the side of the room. A viewing deck stands here, with a little plinth at the edge, and a few benches with the soft red cushions for sitting on. The walls everywhere are lined with bookshelves, and those awesome sliding ladders to reach where you want to go. This appears to be HHA-HCG in the General Reference Section. Two sets of stairs, on your left and right, lead 5 feet down to a 10 foot wide pathway that lopes around the bookshelves and off into the room proper. Those who wander down find that underneath the viewing deck are double doors that are helpfully sealed up tight. Rude. The plinth has a large book which is helpfully opened to a giant cross-section map of the library. You are in General Reference, at the top. At least three levels down, past the Fictional Worlds Archive and the Sea of Tomes is the Books of Power section. Your significance sense is blinking madly on this one, so that's probably it. It better be, because below that is the Restricted Section, and you're afraid of what might lurk in the pages there. The book is firmly bolted to the plinth, preventing you from simple methods of taking the map with you. Barring creativity, you'll have to study it here(Perception check, +1 each skill if you have ranks in any knowledge skill) and remember as you go.

"Don't worry y'all I got this! I'm a psychic with hypnotic powers! I will hypnotize myself into remembering this map! As long as I roll....wait, what"
Jack looks at the camera for a moment towards the Player also named Jack and grimaces before he leaps up from behind everyone else and slams his forehead into the book twice, while staring at it with violently wide eyes, repeating over and over, "I CAN SEE EVERYTHING. Dice Auto-hypnosis:

Jack: After your first headslam, the page flips to a blank one, showing the word "RUDE", and with your second headdesk, you tumble willy-willy into the book as if it did not care about solid objects and such.
Rest: There is now an adorable animated ink sketch of Jack faceplanted on the page of the book, with a text bubble declaring "Ow." over his up-ended butt. Jack: You feel transparent. Positive thinking: your attempts at losing weight have paid off.

Kira performed her customary grumpy grumble. Now that was a problem, wasn't it? Trying to scale a massive structure to reach their desired tome would be hard enough; trying to do that while also releasing someone trapped on a 2D plane would be even harder. Not only was there the improbability of the situation itself, but there was also the difficult task of how such a thing could be undone, if at all. Given its rudimentary attempt at speech, perhaps they could negotiate with it? What would a quasi-sentient book even want?
As she pondered the question, Kira took the liberty of studying the tome's contents. Maybe it'd have a section for troubleshooting or customer service, aside from its terribly useful and equally complex map. They'd probably be stuck with doing guesswork and making bribes, though. "Sorry," she quipped, hoping that the apology would at least soothe the object's anger. Until then, she gingerly touched the pages and began to study its myriad of knowledge. Dice Perception:

Jack: Everyone is staring at you through the window between worlds. How odd. You are mildly interrupted in your zoo exhibit feelings by the appearance of a whiteboard behind you. Chalkboard? It's hard to tell with just the lineart. In any case, it has the declaration Write 100 times 'I Will Not Deface My Book Friends', as if this is penance.
Kira: The book spits Jack's page out at you, as if to say "Keep it. I don't want him. He's smelly." In any case, you peruse the map more. There appears to be staircases over on both sides of the path, if you go far enough. It's not in enough detail to help in that regard, though. Perhaps it expects you to make your own map, like a proper dungeon crawler.

Minako took a careful look at that book, before taking one step back. "Guys...with all due respect, and I do like you guys, I'm going to stay the hell away from the magic book for now." Jack had literally just headbutted his way into it, and, well, Minako wasn't having any of that.
Any of that at all.

Jack was frowning, which he had become very proficient in over the years. !##$#@$@^%&$*&^$% Apparently cursing wasn't going to work here to let of any steam anyways. But....
Jack grabbed an exclamation mark and held it aloft as a sword before charging the far left side of the blade, leaving a screaming trail of AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah in his wake. |

Jack: The chalkboard insists you do your penance, and is unimpressed by your exclamation antics. You ponder saying "S-Word" so that you can wield it in battle, but it is likely that your word-based weaponry will not come with you once you are free.

There was only one possible answer here...and that was to comply. But that didn't mean Jack had to enjoy it, or even be present while he was completing the work. Using his vast mental powers, Jack attempts to hypnotize his own body into going into auto-mode to write as fast as physically possible via his superior dexterity.

Kira could only grumble at her companions. Was there really nobody else who cared about the adventure? What had happened to the excitement, the thrill, the promise of goodies? Everyone besides her had seemingly given up, content to simply live out their unexciting lives despite each having the skills to be something more. It was downright disappointing, yessir. Jack wasn't much help, either; despite being enthusiastic, he'd managed to get himself trapped in a book. He wouldn't be of any help for a while yet.
Whatever. She didn't need those other Jerks, who just trailed along behind because she was doing something for once. Maybe she'd take all the glory - but that'd require confidence and bravado, so probably not. Using the back of Jack's page, Kira withdrew a pen from one of her dozens of pockets and got to scribbling down a rudimentary map. There wasn't much for her to write down, sure, but it'd have to do. With a glance to her negligent comrades, she shuffled off to the corners of their viewing platform and began to jot down the rest of her findings on that sheaf of old paper. If nothing else, Jack's impertinence had given them an ideal surface on which to sketch a map of the underground library. She made sure to check everything twice before moving onwards. |

Chris glances at the map in the book, wishing to stay far away from it. She takes a few moments of introspection as she follows the group.
