VictorWhen the three of them were finally left to chat for a few minutes, Victor took advantage of it. "So what do we do from here? I would very much like to get my hands on a copy of that text as it will give us a better understanding of the history that has lead to this place. Spending a night in the town wouldn't be the worst thing we have had to deal with either." The angelkin then fixes his eyes on Vyxl as he continues, "I know you want to meet with the Lord of this fortress, and I agree we should try. I am sure there are plenty of ways we could help each other. I'm also curious about the other dome, apparently it's not as stable as ours was, or they are trying to keep it going after ours failed."

There was much to consider and he was only scratching the surface with these facts. With so many years having gone by in a flash of the eye, Victor knew there was much he was missing and plenty he could learn. "Regardless of what happens, we need to get back to the Chateau soon; no later than tomorrow I would say. If the others survived the fight with the portal keeper then they are likely looking for us."

Once the party came to agreement, they continued on with Thomos who lead them to the engineering quarter. The large man here was clearly in charge as his bellowing commands sent others scurrying around the place attempting to appease him. Before long, his attention was fixed on the new comers. "We are not here to work specifically, but we have come to ask if you might have a map of the area for sale."

Vyxl nodded, "Correct, but in due time. We are newcomers here, the lord is likely busy with other affairs at the moment, and would be very irritated if a bunch of no-name scragglers barged in unannounced. he paused, and then half pointed to the people, namely dwarven guards. "You see that? That's status, now look at us, especially Kosk...No offense. We're no-one here. Besides, even if he would see us, which is highly doubtful, what would we tell him?" he asks rhetorically, then immediately follows up with a mock of how it would look, "Hi sir! We're from the past, we know nothing about this age, care to provide us with precious resources?"

Vyxl shook his head and chuckled, "Yeah, doesn't work like that. Best we make our way back, clean up, and then discuss what we have to offer in exchange for aid from his kingdom. I will ask Thomos for a point of contact before we leave, we will arrange details with the contact later."

Later at the Engineer

Vyxl lets out an enthusiastic whistle of amazement. "Fine craftsmanship," He states as he eyes the siege weapons in the works. As curious as he was about the type of weapon they were, and how much such a thing would cost, he was sure it was way beyond his current price range, and decided to let the Aasimar do the talking for now.

KoskKosk only shrugged at Vyxl's slight; he had no illusions about his own refinement. "I'd like to leave this place," he said, "This many people... it's too much. I'm not used to it yet." He grunted and added, "Status? Pah. The only status that matters is strength in a fight." Though he hadn't actually spoke of his desire yet, he also wanted to go to the Chateau; while not yet one to settle down or build a homestead, he relished the thought of being able to claim something, anything, as his.

To the Chief Engineer, Kosk grunts again in agreement with Victor.

The Arsenal[B]"Hmph, damn right." The Chief Engineer grumbles, accepting Vyxl's compliment. A single enlarged canine juts from his lower jaw and rubs against the coarse black hair on his upper lip as he speaks. "Everything needs doing around here, and it's only meself doing it. JAKIE!" He bellows. "MAP FOR THE VISITORS! NOW!"

A lean young human with bags about his eyes hurries over, passes Gilliam a scroll, then gets back to filing the edges of a thick metal pipe.
"Updated two moons ago. 3 crowns." He informs Victor, holding out a thick and calloused smith's hand.

VictorCrowns, he thought, I doubt I have any crowns, let alone 3. Victor fishes into his bag and produces the one coin he had found so far in the new world. He just hoped it was like the old standard and ranked as a gold piece while crowns were like silver. "That is a very recent map, it should be quite helpful," he said holding the coin out for the smith to see. Still hoping his offer was enough.

The ArsenalGilliam looks at the single silver coin, stifles a sigh, and fishes through his pocket. "Five, Six, Seven." He counts out, filling Victors palm with a small pile of brass. The likeness of that same gaunt monarch is imprinted on them, still wearing his barbed crown, though these coins can't be much more than a few years old given their lustre.

The map shows points of tactical significance, with only a token effort toward topography for strategic value. Rivers and coastlines, hills, forests, and sand dunes.
Several symbols show the positions of hostile raider clans and monsters (signified by claws), towns, and structures. (Teleportation shrines, a high tower in an eastern desert)
To the east, between the Fortress and Boume sits an extensive stretch of wasteland. Thomos warns you that wild things live there, that only well equipped and numbered patrols venture through it.
Directly south of the Fortress and Santmare, about 50 miles down, a sizable portion of the map is shaded over roughly with thick grey charcoal. Warnings are left there, telling the holder not to enter these lands.

The most interesting things Victor notices are the words around the title, the warning, and Mandre Lukano. All are written in two languages. One would be termed 'Old Gallanic' now, while another is the same angular script on the piece of vellum Victor had found amid the teleportation stones. Given the goings on around here, it would probably be some form of Dwarfen.

VictorThe new map was a huge help and Henry was very glad that what he offered for pay was enough to get it with some to spare. They didn't have time to sit here and work for the smith, there was plenty of work they would need to do back at the chateau. He nodded to the smith, "Thank you, sir." He then turned to the rest and addressed Thomos, "I believe we are ready to go then. Was there anything else you wished to ask, Vyxl?"

Vyxl took a long look at the map, tracing the locations with his finger, figuring out the scale, and suddenly realizing just how far they were from the Castle. He noted the dangerous areas with the sensation to conquer, but knew such conquest would have to wait until forces could be gathered.

"Just one," Vyxl remarked in reply to Victor, without even looking from the map. "Tell me Gilliam, what do you know of this location?" he asked pointing to the 0604Castle on the map.

Kosk WolfhookKosk breathed a sigh of relief when the man took the money, then looked at the map, and attempted to decipher it. Cartography was not his forte, to say the least. If that's here... and that's where we came from... his eyes grew a bit wider. "Long way from home," he whispered to himself.

The Arsenal"It's old. Real old." the Engineer snorts. "From the last Kingdom. There's some kind of energy cage around it, keeping its old worlders frozen inside. Don't be touchin' it if you wanna keep your fingers intact. We got patrols checking past every few weeks, seeing if it's still frozen. No idea why, 500 years and it's still standing."

"And just what do you expect to happen, hypothetically speaking, if the shield were to collapse, and the old worlders were to come out of their little hidey hole?" he asks inquisitively, "especially if they prove non-hostile?"

Vyxl knew he was approaching suspicion, but he needed to know about local opinion. Would they be granted audience, and lands to thrive amongst the world, or would they instead be plundered for valuables, the weak being used instead as slaves.

The Arsenal"I expect Emanuel would come down from Blenn Amot to wipe them out. Simple as that. Wouldn't make a difference if they were hostile or not.." Gilliam informs you, very matter-of-fact. " The very moment he gets word of it opening."

He turns back to his work, grabs a pistol off the table, and inspects the trigger mechanism. "Of course, things'd be different if our boys got there first. I'd put all my silver on there being something worth the trouble buried under that keep."

VictorThe idea of some person named Emanuel just destroying New Boume with blatant disregard did not bode well for the group. They had some soldiers and a few local mercenaries that decided to join them, but they were likely no match for the force that Gilliam made the Blenn Amot people out to be. Clearly, their survival hinged on making allies and making them fast, but knowing who to trust was proving the most difficult part.

The people of New Boume and the Chateau were working well together, but they were nowhere near enough to stand up to anything even an eighth of the size of Adigal's fortress, likely less so against Blenn Amot. The only other contact was with Kosk and the naked woman. Perhaps their tribes would help them, perhaps not.

"What makes you so sure there is something to be gained there? Did the flickering dome not far from here contain something of value? As I understand it, getting caught in walls of that dome tear a person asunder, it is not something I wouldn't risk my life without a better idea of what could be gained and whether it was really worth it or not," Victor replied to the blacksmith.

"Sure, it seems dangerous, but once that field drops it might not be so. Anything worth protecting to that degree has got to have something good inside." Vyxl says half assed. "Anyway, thanks for the map. I think we should let you get back to work."

Vyxl didn't show it, but he was worried. Sooner or later a small force would arrive at the castle, and though they might easily be despatched, the force they send after won't be so easy. A plan would have to be devised, and alliances would have to be made, if this King of theirs is likely to attack, then it is in his best interest to ally with another kingdom, or perhaps some of the savages.

Vyxl turned and walked away casually, this scenic tour had just turned potentially hostile, and he wasn't about to be the one to cut the last thread.

The Arsenal "Most men will fight for plunder, many more for land, while others only seek knowledge." Gilliam puts the pistol back down, satisfied with its craftsmanship. "Each are easily dispatched. It's the fourth breed that pose the highest threat, 'Beware those that want it all'. They'll take down two of those to flush out the third."
As much as this parting line could have been a threat, the engineer's tone shows a softer side. A friendly warning, nothing more.

Adigal's Fortress"I hope that was enlightening." Runner Thomos states as the group leaves the smoky din of the arsenal foundry. "Will there be anything further?"
