And so it begins! ...finally.

Create characters and I shall start us off on the first story by May 25th at the latest. It may start earlier if characters get sorted out faster! As always, I recommend players work together in order to minimize overlap and give each other all a chance to shine. And to make sure you don't die horrible deaths.

So, as a rather important bit of character details. Samurai Edicts!

Since the Ronin Order pretty much says: "make up three points and see if your GM is chill with it" (Paraphrased, of course), here's what I was thinking. Rather than be original, I more or less just borrowed key aspects of other orders, mostly to reflect Artemy d'Deneith's teachings than any of Kazimir's personal beliefs. Gnolls are not exactly known for their philosophical or introspective tendencies. (Exact wording is pending)

1. "The cavalier must protect the life and lands of his House Deneithsovereign at all costs." (As Order of the Lion)

2. "The cavalier must remain loyal to his allies and must always work to further the aims of the group." (As Order of the Dragon)

3. "The cavalier must always receive some compensation for his services, be it money, a favor, or other payment." (As Order of the Guard)

If, for any reason, there would be a conflict of Edicts, the higher edict takes priority. For example, Kazimir will never attack Deneith holdings, regardless of the interests of the group he is with or payments to perform such. Nor will he abandon his group for the promise of greater payment. However, if continued service to his group requires a forfeiture of payment, it may be considered allowable depending on the circumstances.

Xian, character creation is covered in the House Rules thread.

Asura, I haven't quite made up my mind if I want to take the Sword Saint archetype. How useful do you expect a Mount to be where we're going?

All the character creation rules have been laid out under House Rules. Please let me know if I missed anything.

Edit: Geo, that sounds entirely reasonable to me. House Deneith did notably refuse to fight itself during the Last War and abandoning a group for higher payment that is a breach of contract is one of those things that does not make you a good mercenary house for long. So I think you've got a nice little setup there.

Alright, sounds good. I'll probably make an effort to reword the Edicts so that they blend together a little better.

I've also decided that I'm going to go with the Sword Saint Archetype. I just don't have the skill points to make a mount work very well (curse you language barriers!).

Sheet is up, with most of the essentials covered. I mostly need to just purchase all of the trivial things, as well as some healing potions to not die horribly. If I screwed up something terribly, feel free to point it out. Yes, there is a reason why I have a Skill Focus Feat and a Charisma score with positive numbers (to hell with efficiency!).

got the character sheet up for Thrak, gotta go through and get one up for Guardian.

Update: Out of the hospital, long story short had a blood clot that didn't break up with medicine that wreaked a bit of havoc on my lungs, seem to be past the worst of it just some breathing troubles remain.

I am here and I have finished up the easy part of the character creation process and now going through the process of figuring out how to use my 3,000 gp!

Anyway, because I am mathematically challenged, I don't fully understand the alternating average for hp. So for a d10 would it be 5 on one level and then 6 for the next?

It is probably really easy and I am just missing it.

Anyway, look forward to getting after this!

The easiest way to think about the hp, Xian, is to know that the "average" D10 roll is 5.5. Since DnD almost always rounds down, what you end up with is .5 difference of hp rounded down on odd levels, so you *effectively* gain 6 hp on even levels, but it's still the same 5.5 per level.

Asura, are we doing max hp at level 1, or is that average as well?

Finally, spending money is a pain in the rump! At least my arms/armor cost a pretty penny. Those and a couple of healing potions cover the majority of my money-- now I just need to work out the minor stuff. Like the kitchen sink!

Max HP at level one, per standard rules. And yes, the alternating HP is because I want to use the average, but don't feel like actually rounding things. Wheee!

And yeah, spending 3000 GP is nontrivial!

It's not the '3000gp" bit that's hard, honestly.

It's the ~300gp of mundane supplies that's wicked. At least for a martial class.

Between armor, a melee weapon, a backup melee weapon, a ranged weapon, and a couple cure potions, that's just about all of the meaningful stuff, especially when most of it is masterwork.
