I am here
I can't see me Dm'ing here, I run my own game in real life and as much fun as it is, I'm one of the DM's that would rather be playing. That's what I'm here for. To roleplay, and to get lost in my character and a story while creating fun and unique memories in a fantasy world. I am thoroughly excited to get started. |

Welcome!
We are here too! it's like we are made for each other. Lots of folks come here to escape GMing IRL, and let their imaginations run free with PC's and ideas. You join a large group with similar needs. Happy gaming!

Welcome to RPG Crossing.
I highly recommend checking out the New Player Solo Game in the main forum's Solo Games/New Gamers folder. There are 13th Age, Call of Cthulhu, DnD (3.5, 4, 5), FATE, Pathfinder (1), and Travelers many game systems to pick from and once signed up, you will be paired with a patient and helpful GM that can help show you the ropes of how to do things at this site. They can also be an excellent person to ask any questions to while you are getting up to speed on things. Anyway, enjoy your time here and let us know if you have any questions.

I appreciate all the welcomes and suggestions. I was really conflicted about the concept of the solo game, and I have decided not to do it. I know the systems I would be participating in, and after some playing around I feel comfortable that everything I need to know about the forum is either well explained, or I can borrow from the posts of users who are wizards at the code of the forum. The quote function is really nice for robbing the good code.
I feel like the solo games for new players should be for people with less experience in roleplaying and navigating forums. In my mind I can't in good conscience tie up a dm who could be helping someone with their first roleplaying experience just to show me the bells and whistles of the site. I'm already working on an application for a game, gonna cross my fingers for that one, because I'm already emotionally invested in the character. I realize I'm passing up an opportunity for learning, but I hope that opportunity goes to someone who needs it more than I perceive myself to. |

While I understand your reluctance to do the new player solo game, I wanted to reassure you that it is just a service that is offered to help new people to this site. I was not aware of the new player solo games when I started and I managed to pick up enough to play. I still learn new things from time to time and I know where to go to get some answers. Saying that, the new player solo game is more geared towards teaching new members how to play on this site than it is how to teach people to play a role playing game system. I think there is still value for seasoned role players to take advantage of this service. While you can learn a lot by dissecting a seasoned player's post to see how they did their formatting, there is something to be said for having someone take the time to explain how the logistical elements work.
Again, the service is completely voluntary and I am sure you will eventually pick up everything you need as you go along. I just didn't want you to think that the service was just for new players to role playing. I know I wish I had known about the new player solo games when I first started. I know it would have helped speed up my learning curve. Saying all of that, there have been many people who just jumped in and there is nothing wrong with that. When it comes down to it, all that maters is that you are having fun.

Welcome to the site, VanitySoaring! Good luck getting into your first game!
I respect your decision about not signing up for the solo game and appreciate the consideration behind that reasoning, it I would also agree with kenjitsu that there is always something to learn…plus, why not make those volunteer GMs earn their shiny golden dragon badges? ![]() Hope to see you around the boards!

Howdy VanitySoaring,
I love the name. It sounds like you are an experienced RPG player. Are you as experienced at PbP? That is the really why you should check out a solo game. That said, I made the same decision you did two years ago when I joined and lived to tell the tale. Good luck on your application but don't be too disappointed if you aren't accepted. It took me a few before I got tapped and now consider myself lucky because of the quality of that first campaign I'm in...more about that later. Tell us a bit more about yourself. What is your favorite character class? Favorite race? Feta or brie? This is a place where the people are welcoming, where the games are interesting, and where generally they only expect you to post a few times a week. I've been playing D&D for a very long time and I thought I've seen it all, but this site has some amazing games going on. I've been playing (storytelling as much as rolling) for almost two years now in a game that has been going on continuously for four decades, started tabletop and moved online two decades ago. It's set in an alternate Europe where the worlds of Tolkien and Howard existed in ages past. So there is a hint of LOTR and a hint of Conan in it and since it's set in an alt Europe it somehow feels familiar. This is just one example and there are other great campaigns on RPGX. You should take some time to "stroll around" the site and see if anything catches your eye. I hope to see you around on the boards.

Quote:
![]() Favorite race is hard, I usually play humans. I don't know if that makes them my favorite race, but humans in roleplaying to me are like blank slates. I can turn this into anything and it will fit, I can always make it make sense. My favorite race I never got to play in 3.5 was the Stonechild, something about them made me fall in love but I never got to live out that dream and now as far as I know they don't even exist in 5th edition. Although I might recreate them to interact with the party I DM in real life. Feta, although I've read legitimate Brie is basically illegal in the United States, so I probably can't answer this accurately if what I attempted to eat wasn't technically considered Brie. |

Brie is amazing, also good in baguette with cranberries, also good melted with dippy things (fingers count!). Take it up a notch and try some camembert a punch in the nose and mighty kiss on the tongue.
As to your new game - everyone here is pretty helpful and kind so you should be OK

Goodmorning VanitySoaring,
Welcome over here, very late to the welcoming party but better late than never?. I can see the 'thoroughly excited to get started' being reflected by your post count! So cool to see, what have you been up to so far? Are you already playing a character????
