New Player Solo Games - GM Opportunity Thread

Greetings all, I'm zev, one of the New Player Solo Games (NPSG) moderators. This is the information in regards to the possibility of joining the ranks of the NPSG GMs.

Currently we have DnD 3.5e, DnD 4e, Dnd 5e, FATE, Pathfinder 1e, and 13th Age, Call of Cthulhu, and Traveller versions of the games up and running. We are interested in would be GMs of all these versions.
All the current game runners will be asked to review and discuss all the applicants, so you know.

***What is the NPSG?***

It's a stand alone adventure designed for new players, aka "Newbies" to get accustomed to how play-by-post is done on site, and learn the basics of DnD (and similar systems) playing. It includes character sheet creation, PC-NPC parlay, combat, on-site coding/tool usage, and all the usual trappings one would expect in a quick game.

If you were to volunteer to serve as GM, you'd just be asked to pick up a couple players at a time, and you'd be assisting new players in the aforementioned basics.

The adventures are mostly pre-planned and pre-written, which will make for efficient posting for you.

***What are the benefits of being a GM?***
  • Gratitude from the current GMs for taking some of load off of their shoulders
  • Thankfulness and development of a reputation with both the moderator staff and the new players that this site represents.
  • GMing skills practice. Some basic writing/role-playing development and a heightened general understanding of the rules and how to explain them.
  • Satisfaction from knowing that you are contributing and giving back to the community.

***What are the requirements for being a GM?***
  • To have been active on this site for a year or more.
  • 1000+ posts. Note: we mean posts that involve In or Out of Character dealings as player or GM or DM, or significant conversations and musings that pertain to gaming in general. (Games such as Tug of War do not count.)
  • A solid time commitment of approximately 5 minutes per game (10-20 minutes daily duty).
  • Be trustworthy, responsible, dependable, and dedicated. And be able to demonstrate knowledge of the system you wish to run games under.
  • Patience when it comes to running games for players of varying experience with pbp and RPGs. Some "newbies" are veteran players new to play by post, some are new to a particular RPG but have played by post before. Some are first timers in regards to everything.
  • The ability to NOT just up and vanish - At least give us some advance warning if you can't continue.

***How does one apply to be a GM?***

PM zevonian, Wynamoinen, Admin Choc with the following:
  • Your member name
  • When you joined the site
  • Current post count
  • Posting availability
  • Brief description of your DMing and GMing and playing experience with various game systems, as well as which you'd be willing to run (more than one is okay).
    DnD 3.5e, 4e, 5e
    Pathfinder 1e
    FATE
    13th Age
    Call of Cthulhu
    Traveller

Also, if you have experience with GURPS, Cypher, Pathfinder 2e, Shadowrun, or other games you've seen on site, feel free to mention it.
  • If you can provide a link to any game you're currently involved in, a link to a post that shows you know your stuff, that would be fantastic.
  • A short blurb about why you wish to be a NPSG GM.

Special thanks to Grogg Tree, from whom I readily admit I borrowed a good chunk of his previous recruitment post in order to create this one.

And thanks to all of you who read all of this and are still interested. Looking forward to your applications, and can answer any questions you have via this thread or PMs.

Looking forward to your apps.
-zev

Thread bump as a reminder that we consider applications year round. And if there's a system not currently covered, feel free to PM me about it.

Note that while DnD 5e is the most popular choice for newbie solos, we do indeed have multiple system choices available, and more in development. If you don't quite have 1,000 posts or a year on site, but might be interested in helping out as a playtester, please contact me. Thanks.
