The Last of Us Discussion - Use Spoilerbuttons

As the title suggests this is a place to discuss the show The Last of Us. Since I didn't specify we can also discuss the video games here as well. For background I've played both games. I've beat NG+ with the first one. I tried NG+ with the second one, but I just couldn't get into it. If I had more time I'd probably get through it, but I'm holding out for the multiplayer game.

Onto the show though. I'm thoroughly impressed so far. I respect their decision to deviate from the game with how they presented the infection. Gas masks don't make for dramatic scenes. The casting choices have been incredible so far as well. I loved Pedro Pascal in The Mandalorian, and he's absolutely nailed it as Joel. So far Bella Ramsey has captured my interpretation of Ellie's personality, and with dressing her the same I barely notice anymore.

 

I'm really looking forward to Nick Offerman as Bill. I really think he's going to nail the character, and the meeting Bill sequence was one of my favourite in the game. I think they're going to stay true to Bill's character, and we'll probably have him around for a few episodes instead of the short time in the game.

It doesn't sound like they want to drag this out unnecessarily, so I'm really looking forward to what will probably be an exciting two or three seasons.

Well if anyone starts watching the show I’ll be here. It’s a quality program regardless of whether you’re familiar with the games.

Only watched the first 2 so far but I'm really enjoying it. I have played the first game and curious to see how the stories align over the 3 seasons.

Its been a while since I played the game so I'm struggling to remember how Ellie started out as character but for the gritty apocalypse time it fits. Very happy to see Pedro on screen again, agree on the mandalorian and his casting here.

 

I'm not entirely convinced with the behaviour, growth and senses of the cordys but I am adept at suspending my belief and will let it ride out

I am liking this age of limited series as I think the quality has gone up and I think having a defined end is a big contributor to that. No need to succumb to recycled crisis of the week.

I'm about to watch episode three if this stream will load. Ellie's backstory is the DLC for the first game.

 

I think much of Season 2 will be setting up the plot for the second game. It jumps from "awkward car ride" to "oh hey we live in a town now" which leaves a lot of room for building episodes. The second game is fairly deep, so it could benefit from at least one and half seasons.

 

Plus they're not going to want to lose Joel too soon which means they'll likely drag out the plot of the second one for a while.

I really liked episode three. The review bombing by homophobic trolls is depressing, but almost expected these days. Bill’s town was a very exciting section of the game, and they took a significant departure from that in the show, but I really think it worked. I’m glad they were able to tell this story. Casting was phenomenal. I’m happy they cast nick offerman in the role. Having the guy who embodies “burly, work with your hands man’s man” as a gay man loving his partner in the apocalypse was a nice step forward.
