My first attempt at weathering a Bandai model kit, mostly by trial and error. It's done in acrylic paint rather than actual model paint because that's what I have.

The good:
-I mixed the rust color myself from tan, maroon and brown, and I think it looks pretty good.
-Dry brushing took a few tries to figure out, but the washes were pretty easy and they bring out the details on the AT-ST's legs really nicely.
-The photos don't really show it, but I used metallic silver as a highlighter on the raised details as well as the flat planes of the cockpit, so it shimmers like metal where the light hits it.

The bad:
- I miiiiiight have gone overboard with the washes.
-The dark wash mostly shows up on the legs, so the cockpit doesn't look like it's the same color.
- I put this model together several years ago and have just had it sitting unpainted on a shelf for a while. A piece fell off while painting and I have no idea where it came from because I no longer have the instructions. Whoops!

Of course it's art! I am big fan of that art. I've only ever made one, but I am a fan of Forged in Fire. Also, I collect knives (mostly K-bar, tho).

Wow, there's a lot of good art in this thread! I guess it would be too much to respond to each one individually, so I'lll leave it at that.

I will also include a few of mine. I'm no real artist, tho. All of these were drawn with simple mouse clicks using Gimp software. Some of these might show-up strangely, because portions of the background are transparent.

Those look great, Kayal.

Is there some kind of filter you're using in GIMP? Do tell about these "few clicks". (I barely know the software, and I've always wanted to learn more, just never had the time.)

Thanks!

Gimp is very similar to PhotoShop. Basically, all of those pics were created by a series of very short straight lines, created by clicking and allowing the program to draw a line from the previous point to the new one. I do sometimes use filters, but not on those pics.

Forexample, I used a filter on this one to generate the chainmail, but the wood grain was drawn with mouse clicks:

EDIT: If I have time, maybe I'll type up a "how-to."

Same with this one. The chainmail was filter-generated. Everything else was click, click, click ...

Here's a good example. I think I used a filter on the fire and I know I used one on the "glow" around it.

If you're putting all the lines together, you're a digital artist. I assumed you meant you found a picture online, turned it into line art, and arranged them together or something more collective and less creative. Those are awesome!

Well, thanks. Yeah, I drew all these one click at a time. I would never take someone's else artwork and pass it off as my own, no matter how much I modified it.

But I do sometimes look at images online and use them as a sort of "model," but never in a way that would constitute plagiarism. In fact, I have a slew of drawings that I don't show people because I think they look too much like the model they were inspired by.

OK this is my first one of these! I drew the bot form of a transformer. My own design!.

OK so a base concept with emblem and some color.

Then the finished product.

That's cool. What do they transform into?
